I'm just going to say it - body hair (and beauty standards in general) is truly one of the final frontiers of women's issues in the West. Too many women just love their gilded cage too much. It shocks me how virulently women will defend it. I barely open my mouth and the "well I like how it feels. it just makes me feel cleaner. sensory issues. I do it for me. feminism is about choosing (to conform)." brigade come rushing in by the dozens.

Well I don't like how it feels. I don't feel cleaner without body hair. I don't prefer not having body hair. But who will advocate for women like me, but me? For women who do like hair removal, they are advocated for every time they step out of the house and see 99% of the female population also conforming to that standard, or when they watch a movie and see all the shaved actresses, or view an advertisment, or open a magazine, or watch a music video, or scroll through social media, or walk down the streets without receiving insults and glares for having a completely normal bodily feature.

You genuinely can't even point out that hairlessness is a man-made standard without women losing their shit and acting like they are totally immune to propaganda they've been exposed to from birth. I'm so tired.

Look man I'm pro self-diagnosis and everything, but I do think if you're going to do this whole "being disabled" thing, you should actually engage with and learn what that is beyond "well I have [X] and my experience is"

Just saw a bloke loudly and proudly say, "and if you think you can't show up on time and pay attention, I have undiagnosed ADHD and possibly autism, and I can, so you have no excuse." Mate, you just described like a really common problem for the kind of people with ADHD who don't tend to stay undiagnosed. Struggling to show up on time and an inability to pay attention is, in fact, a really big part of ADHD. Are you sure you don't want to reopen the DSM and choose a different character class to explain whatever your deal is?

And the thing is dude I run into casual and sometimes very severe ableism among the self-diagnoseds all the time. Because see a lot of 'em haven't ever been socially codified as disabled or immersed in a disabled space or community. Y'know, they didn't lick the shortbus windows. They don't know what's up. A lot of the time, they're very recent into this whole conscious awareness of their disability thing, and still perceive a lot of shit the way they did when they thought of themselves as essentially nondisabled. So I have a lot of grace and patience for them but sometimes you see one of them say some shit like "well I'm autistic and I am a flourishing social butterfly with many friends; we're not all socially maladapted!" and it's like, mate
