Itās National Coming Out Day!
Coming out is a serious step for most LGBT and queer people. They not only risk to confront the change of closest folksā attitude, inadequate reactions, they even risk their lives and health.
When your romantic or sexual preferences differ from whatās considered normal, you have much more chances to hide the secret if you need to. For transgender people itās a lot more difficult.Ā
You donāt understand the existing gender roles at all. The standarts donāt leave you any air to breathe, you have to play another personās part. You canāt do it well, since the real you will slip through the hateful mask out one way or another.Ā Ā
Your daily life consists of hiding yourself, constantly pretending to be someone else, getting even more confused because of it, not knowing why youāre here or does this world need you at all⦠Itās an endless espionage game, and youāre a spy among enemies. You can rest from it only at home for several hours, surely, if you live alone or with people who understand and support you. How can we find strength to leave our rooms, the only places where we can be ourselves? Itās a torture - those hours, days and years of struggling to understand why everything goes this way, whatās your mistake and who you really are if youāre not the person everyone else sees in you.
It would be much easier to explore your genuine self, to get whatās happening around you and why you donāt always fit to these surroundings, if there were more brave people telling their true stories. We need more people who can inspire others to think āoh, their stories are similar to mine, Iām the same, now I know that Iām okay and the system is not. Iām not a feminine gay guy or a butch girl. Even if I had conflicts in my family or problems with the opposite sex parent, it didnāt make me trans. I am just meā. Is there something more important than being yourself and not wanting to be someone else?
Transgender people will become visible, if someone likes it or not. Hiding your real self is destructive. But even if queer people hide themselves, no one can deny they exist. They are among us, you already look at them. They are already born, and they have the same rights and freedom as any other human.
