Andromeda’s hands shook lightly as she held the letter in her hand, spoon clattering into her bowl with an almighty CRASH as she dropped it into her cereal. This couldn’t...how could they... She tried to steady her breathing with a hasty sip of pumpkin juice, but it only got stuck in her throat, and she found herself coughing it back up rather ungracefully. How did they... She slammed her cup down forcefully on the table and scrunched up the letter into an unrecognizable ball. “Merlins’ fuck,” she muttered.

Andromeda stopped short when she heard the all-too-familiar voice echoing down the corridor. Her body tensed, and her eyes fluttered closed as she turned towards the source of the voice. “...Emma?” She finally inquired, taking a step closer, her voice soft and gentle, eyes fluttering open once more. “Are you...alright?”

Andromeda’s brow quirked as she looked the girl up and down, inspecting the hand given to her. “Hmm...I don’t really think I’d be entrusting my life with these hands. Have you been drinking, or something?”

“What was Minnie thinking when she made me a prefect? Has she lost it already,” Remus muttered to himself as he walked away from a group of third years. Somehow, they thought that they could get away with skipping class, which he found rather annoying, hating that he had to hand out detentions. “That women’s really lost it now.”

Andromeda hugged her books tighter to her chest and started immediately towards Remus as she spotted him across the hall. Her free period was boring the hell out of her, and Remus looked like he could use some company anyway. “Well I think you’re doing pretty good,” she spoke up, falling into step with him as though he’d always been talking to her. “Far better then the decision to give me a pin, I reckon.”

“It’s called being pretty and batting your eyelids,” Andromeda snickered, dropping her light weight off Ted’s back. “It’s also you not being able to refuse me. But yes, thank you kind sir, now that you’ve done it once I’ll have to remember this for future times when I’m exhausted and slightly lazy.”

Regulus stuffed his hands in his cloak pockets. Beginning of the year though it was, the nights were already starting to bring a slight chill. Somehow he and Andromeda had been assigned the early, outdoor patrol shift - checking the Quidditch Pitch, Black Lake trails, and assorted courtyards. Typically Regulus would not mind such a demand was it wasn’t winter yet, but more than once he’d found half clothed students hiding in the stands or up against a tree and he really did not relish disturbing anyone again.

His partner had fallen in step with him as they began the trek towards the Quidditch Pitch. Cousins as prefects together - Regulus wondered if that had ever happened before. Unsurprisingly, the Black family was once again setting a name for themselves.

Andromeda wasn’t sure hoe she’d found herself chosen as a Prefect. She was exactly the star pupil of the sixth year, but then again, she was certainly showing herself to be more matured then her fellow classmates. Being a Prefect didn’t particularly bother her, anyway, it was just when she was assigned with her cousin did things become slightly tense. They braced the night chills with a brave face, and near-silently ensured that any lurkers were sent back to their dorms, even those half-naked ones.

They came to a slower pace as they approached the Quidditch Pitch, Andie bracing herself for the late-night-athletic-lurkers they were surely about to encounter. It was only then that the silence between them became slightly unbearable, and she cleared her throat before speaking up. “So I guess I should be a respectable cousin and ask you how your summer was?”
