idk how else to describe it but The Night We Met by Lord Huron sounds like how standing outside at night during the first winter’s snow feels.

To carry on as the Sandpiper, Jaskier had no choice but to fake his own death.

In a way, it seemed for the best. Geralt himself had once said it would be a blessing if Jaskier weren’t tangled up in other people’s lives. So, with the aid of a glamour, the tale spread: Jaskier the bard had succumbed to fever.

But when Jaskier—hidden behind his new guise—crossed paths with Geralt again, he was stunned to see the witcher in mourning. Geralt was grieving.

Grieving him.

The realization left Jaskier reeling. He had expected Geralt to see his “death” as a relief, perhaps even a mercy. Instead, the loss cut deeper than Jaskier had ever imagined.

grief is a strange thing. my world has narrowed to this room, and to you, taking up so much and so little of it all at once.

But downstairs, I can hear the neighbors singing. outside, the courthouse bells chime the hour. and it feels like an affront and an insult and a cruelty, because the music didn’t stop for us.

why didn’t it stop for us?

thinking today about whether or not Witchers can have spicy food. And I mean not your average run-of-the-mill warm, but properly spicy. like. they handle literal poison on the regular so I know they *can* have it, but in theory someone with enhanced senses probably would find it rather uncomfortable, if not downright dreadful.

which leads me to 2 (two) trains of thought:

—cruel villagers exploiting this knowledge and purposefully making a witcher’s meal so spicy that it’s painful for them to eat, but of course they’ve got to eat it anyway, can’t waste food and coin on the path (bad)

—Jaskier really likes spicy food but once he realizes it’s *killing* poor Geralt’s twice-grassed sensibilities (and Geralt refuses to admit it) he purposefully starts buying the blandest snacks he can find (ye old medieval saltine crackers) (adorable)

okay but when Hozier said a night so black the darkness hummed, and suddenly you’re a kid again, grown up rural and standing in the woods beyond your house, the cicadas a gentle buzz all around you, the night moonless and soft

and you hold your hands out touch the grass as it sways. the air is warm and humid and charged with the electricity of a summer storm on the wind, and when you breathe in you can feel it in your lungs.

hey fam so sometimes my voice goes a little weird and Wrong and reverberating in a Strange Way (TM) and people are starting to notice, should I go into the woods and consult an ancient unfathomable entity about this or will my local physician be fine

Re: Jaskier singing Hozier songs heart wrenchingly ... Who We Are is such a witcher pov kind of song imo. Jaskier sings it intending to be that way... It even gets to Geralt when he hears it the first time. "So much of our lives is just carving through the dark" (through evil and monsters, with a sword) "the hardest part is who we are" (mutated against their will and ostracized and spat on by society) idkidk is this anything???

The Amazing Devil is lovely and my favorite song of theirs is somewhere between Farewell Wanderlust or The Old Witch Sleep and the Good Man Grace!!

however my angsty little ao3 brain was imagining a post-mountain Jaskier being injured on the path alone and quietly singing a very heartwrenching rendition of the chorus of ‘In a Week’ :D

currently facing problems shopping for clothes because I’m built like a very short busty peasant farmgirl.

Pros: I’m very strong. Can lift many things. Undoubtedly would’ve done numbers on hay bales and sacks of flour if I was born a few centuries ago

Cons: nothing goddamn *fits* right.

I’m leaning into this look—inadvertently—because my waist to hip ratio is so comically different that I walk around in flowy skirts all day because it’s easier to find something that fits only my waist

yall ever get the thing on ao3 where you write a story and everyone really likes it and you get *mountains* of approval and it’s great but then you see someone bookmarked it and wrote “yeah this kinda sucks” and it just…you know that empty, really hollow feeling in your stomach? that.

my brother in christ why did you bookmark it then. the back button is free. It’s right there.

like people are entitled to their opinions but homedog it costs 0$ to not be cruel
