Hi so don‘t ever get me started on Andy and climate change cause she‘s 6700 years old and within the span of 200 years she can‘t see the stars anymore, the milkyway, the galaxy.

She can’t enjoy the quiet of a forest anymore there are cars in the distance and at the same time it is too quiet because animals are being driven away. Less songbirds sing every year, less insects trill in the grass and fewer mice rustle in the undergrowth.

Seeing a deer in a meadow is a rarity, in her times? It was Normal.

She can’t hear the wolves howl at night only sirens of cars.

She cannot breathe the air it stinks. It’s biting. Smog everywhere.

She cannot enjoy the night. There is light everywhere and somehow it dims everything else.

She cannot follow the winding ways of a river as they have been straightened. Ships growling on them rather than the gentle gurgling of the waves.

She cannot tell the seasons apart. Only one extreme hunting the other. The steadiness of things known twisting into unknowns.

But she knows the drums of war. They beat always the same. But now humanity wars it‘s own home as much as themselves.

The funniest part of A New Hope is that Luke Skywalker is a 19 year old who has not locked in yet and plays with toys and sleeps in his childhood bedroom at his aunt and uncle’s house and Leia Organa is a 19 year old with a mission to save the galaxy from fascism. Luke has never left his hometown, Leia just watched her planet be blown up. He’s peeved his uncle is asking him to do his chores, she’s imprisoned for resisting the government. You relate to them both but they’re on complete opposite sides of the 19 year old life stage spectrum.

Also Luke is clearly very lonely after his crush and best friend, Biggs, went away to college

Yes! Some people have misinterpreted this as me insinuating Luke is a wimp but he’s just in a very transitional life phase that is focused on growing and maturing. His friends are growing up and moving on, he’s anxious to join them but isn’t quite ready. He has ambition and goals but he just isn’t in a place where he is able to pursue those goals, he is immature and that isn’t a bad thing. 19 year olds SHOULD be able to ponder their place in the world and which direction they want their life to take. Leia has been in the public eye her entire life, she is a princess, she has been primed for greatness and she has been shouldered with so much responsibility. Luke is just his aunt and uncle’s nephew, they love him and don’t want him to leave, he’s trying to decide what to do.

He’s like a Midwest farm boy who is dreaming of the big city and she is like an old money New England heiress who has been told since birth she will follow her father’s career path into politics and has been sent to the most competitive schools and enrolled in the most rigorous extracurriculars.

Has anyone else noticed how at the end Andy tells Nile "when you ditch the car, ditch the weapons" EXCEPT her battleaxe was in the car? Was Andy planning on coning back for the car or, 100% sadder and more likely, was she planning on dying and not being able to rescue the rest of the team? 🥺

#The Old Guard#oh she 1000% expected to die rescuing Joe and Nicky#she was already Done™️ and this was just the Almost Certainly Doomed Mission to cap things off#which makes Nile bringing the labrys with her that much more striking and meaningful#not just so they could have a plot-convenient symbol of eventual transfer of leadership#but that was also Nile carrying Andy’s metaphorical mantle back to her#that axe was ​Andy’s responsibility to the world okay#god there was so. much. packed into the moment Nile gets out of the busted car and gives Andy the axe (via @hauntedfalcon​)
