Soma’s revenge arc – my thoughts
Since I’m balls deep in the Kuroshitsuji fandom again (feels good to be back ❤️), I reread much of the manga over the past week or so. Here are my thoughts on where we might be heading.
Obviously, we haven’t seen Soma in the manga in 5 years. That in itself is a travesty! I’ve seen quite a few people theorising that he’s staying at the hotel where O!Ciel & Seb have just arrived, which would make sense given that we last saw Soma heading towards that area, but I’ve had another thought surrounding his location.
When we last saw Soma, he was heading towards the port of Southampton, presumably intending to go back to Bengal. After he gets stopped by the thieves, we can surmise he beats them presumably to death, due to the blood on his bandaged fist. Afterwards, we see him continuing to walk forward, crying blood and gripping Agni’s urn, to the shock and horror of onlookers. Most people seem to think that at this moment, he turned back, vowing to avenge Agni’s death by getting revenge on the killers in England.
But what if he didn’t turn back after all? What if he did return to Bengal? What if he gets his father, the King, involved in his revenge plot? I bet the boy could come back to England with his own personal army at the ready. I know he’s not exactly his parents’ favourite child, but I’m sure he could curry favour seeing as he now has the blessing and power of Kali herself (signified by the extreme strength and tears of blood we see during his most recent appearance). I reckon the King might be eager to pursue justice since Agni was himself of very high social status, not just some commoner.
I think we underestimate the influence Soma could have. As a Prince, he’s of significantly higher social standing than the Earl Phantomhive. And I reckon he could use that to his advantage to sully their reputation, at the very least.
But it’s just a thought at this point. I actually think it’s quite likely he’ll end up in the Brighton hotel, as it’s pretty much a straight line journey from Southampton, but wouldn’t it be exciting if he went all out with getting the monarchy involved in his revenge plot? I would revel in the drama of it all, yes, but in the end, I just want to see Soma avenge Agni properly in whatever way he can. I wonder what would happen if he went to the newspapers about it.
