They really do just drop Frobisher into Big Finish with zero introduction lmao
and it FUCKS
All hail the big talking bird!
"Start talking." "Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart had perfect pitch." "What happened to him?" "Who, Wolfgang Amadeus-? Oh, him? Oh, he died." Is one of my favorite dialogues ever because the doctor isn't in a silly mood even once during the seeds of doom, the instinct to be a brat is just so deeply ingrained in him that he has to piss people off the moment a gun is pointed at him
something i always love about watching the Key to Time is how obvious it is that Romana immediately loves K9. like she spends the entire season ripping apart every single facet of the Doctor's life. His grades, his personality, his TARDIS, his driving, his interests and she never ONCE apologises for any of it (nor should she!)
except with K9. she's rude to K9 one time in the Ribos Operation and all it takes is for him to pout for exactly 0.01 seconds for her to crouch down to his level, apologise and give him pets which also just happens to be the first time she willingly breaks her 'cold unfeeling time lady'. like she was utterly enamored with K9 from the start
Only about 7 years late, but here it is
they are Dangerous😌
i like it when a Doctor Who companion is a pathetic man
i like it when a Doctor Who companion is a pathetic man
I love the doctors stupid grin at the beginning of the stones of blood because the third segment of the Key to Time is on earth. The face of a man about to finally subject Romana to his special interest
Anyway The Savages definitely has some questionable elements (at one stage in development it was apparently gonna be called The White Savages and all of the Elders (evil oppressors) were gonna be played by white actors in brown face?) but nonetheless I think it's one of 60s Dr who's most successful attempts at talking about colonialism. I think the metaphor of the life extracting machine is solid & there's something especially icky and plausible to me about the Savages being kinda Milked for their energy like cows rather than flat out killed. I really like the scene where one of the older Savages talks about how his people used to be great artists & thinkers but now they're all too sickly and exhausted from the life energy machines to do anything but try to stay alive.
& Also I really enjoyed how the Doctor is straight up like 'this is evil and I'm gonna blow up your machines'.
Underrated story wish they hadn't junked it.
Also this exchange when the Doctor and a guard discover one of the Savages passed out on the ground outside:
DOCTOR: What do you know of this? EDAL: He's one of the savages. I shouldn't let him worry you. He's probably shamming. He should be back on the reserve. Come on, you lazy animal, get up, move! Get back to your sector. DOCTOR: What are you doing, fellow? Leave the man alone. He'll probably die. EDAL: I don't think there's much chance of that, Doctor. Come on, you, move. DOCTOR: I insist that you leave him alone! EDAL: I don't think you understand, Doctor. DOCTOR: I think I understand only too well. EDAL: You do? And you still waste time on this creature? DOCTOR: This human being! EDAL: Why the concern, Doctor? They are only savages. DOCTOR: They are men. Human beings, like you and me. Although it appears at the moment that you're behaving in a rather sub-human fashion. EDAL: They have not developed like we have. They are savages! Come on.
Of course, as we all know, Doctor Who only became woke in 2018...
Dear BBC
It seems that you don't have any money, probably due to the Tories or something. Luckily I have a solution to this problem.
Putting CGI in Doctor Who is expensive but you know what isn't? Asking all your staff to bring in their recycling bins and buying lots of paint.
The Welsh quarries are calling BBC. Disney betrayed you, didn't they? You don't need to worry about them when you use an old shower curtain as a costume.
We don't mind. Our eyes bled when we saw a CGI judoon. We physically retched at some of the environments you placed Doctor Who in.
But we're still watching episodes from the 1970s, aren't we?
Give us cardboard, give us plasterboard, give us foam, give us plastic, give us natural light, give us piles of rubble, give us silver paint, give us props the actors can interact with
life hack: ignore everything and consume doctor who media
The thing about looking at ratings for doctor who stories is that it’s sometimes really hard to tell if a story has a low rating because it’s bad or because people lack whimsy, and the only way to tell is to subject yourself to it
average first doctor episode title: the italians
average second doctor episode title: the scary monsters
average third doctor episode title: mitosis of the daleks
average fourth doctor episode title: the apocalypse of death
average fifth doctor episode title: zarpegis
average sixth doctor episode title: explosion
average seventh doctor episode title: the cool awesomeness

jamie being perfectly able to understand futuristic technology but having no sense for 1960s propriety or what is situationally appropriate is WAY funnier than "being from the past makes you stupid" jokes. like yeah he doesn't understand what a passport is but he DOES understand what a ray gun is and has no idea which of these things is actually relevant at an airport
S16E11, "The Stones of Blood" Part 3
I love K9
The Doctor is like a weeb but instead of Japan he's a weeb about the planet Earth
it's fine tho it's not weird because uuuh.. he's half human on his mother's side. it's basically his culture <3
