Nathaniel has a playful frown on his face as the answer dances on the tip of his tongue. “Learn? No, I don’t believe you, it actually needs to be a talent. One that you are born with.” He’s accompanying her, a walk that he knew too well by now to even need to pay attention to their path. “Very busy, very little time for myself which I am okay with, I knew what I was getting myself into when I started studying.” He chuckles. “And yours?”

“We British folk have an innate ability to brew good tea, huh? Fair enough, it’s pretty much in our blood so there’s no excuse not to be talented at it.” A snort escaped her. “Well, then it should do you well to sit down for a moment and just enjoy a cuppa. Things have been going pretty well at the shop, I can’t complain. The heat has been a little suffocating though.” She rounded the corner, her little tank’s wheels BUMPING along the pavement behind her.

Cleo gave the other a gentle smile and took one of the mints carefully before popping it into her mouth. “Thanks, that’s really nice of you. It’s just that I’m usually a rain kind of girl, and I’ve been dumb enough to work in a car without air conditioning for three hours. The blame is on me, really. Still, I didn’t mean to disturb you. Do you mind if I stay here for a little while? I can buy something if it’s a problem,” She assured her, not wanting cause trouble to her. 

“Oh, well, I try to help people whenever it seems like they could use it,” Andy said, waving her hand and smiling bashfully. “I prefer the rain too, actually, and this heat is insufferable. You poor thing, I don’t know you managed that long in a hot car.” She placed the closed tin back in her pocket. “No, no, please, no need to buy anything. Take as long as you need to cool down. By the way, I’m Andy.” She offered a hand.

“Fantastic? Wow, you must be really having the time of your life. I don’t think many people use that term anymore. Any particular reason?” Ana asked, raising her eyebrow in curiosity.  She liked how happy the woman looked, and she thought maybe the books had to do with it. Or maybe this woman just had a sunny disposition. “The Historian? Do the vampires sparkle?” She laughed lightly and shook her head. “Oooh, I’ve heard of that–does someone die?”

“Well, I am sitting in a nice cool store full of hundreds of books rather than sweating it out in that heat, so I don’t have much to complain about,” Andy chuckled. PLUS she always kept a book up front with her to read while customers were busy browsing and the one she was currently in the middle of ( Shug by Jenny Han ) was a cute little coming of age story that kept her in a good mood. “No sparkling, I’m afraid. If sparkling vampires are more your thing, though, we do have all the Twilight books.” She giggled softly before growing somewhat solemn again. “Yes, unfortunately. But it was still such a beautiful love story.”

“Well, you have loads of time, you look about what…twelve or something.” Leni grins lazily, following her down the aisle until they stopped in front of one of the shelves, leaning against it with a small yawn as the girl who worked at the shop seemed to be looking through various books she assumed held what she needed. Nodding her head at the mention of the word adventure, because that was very true, especially when you added on the time the couple thought they were never going to get to have their own children. On top of that they’d eventually conceived twins, then they had come early, it had been a ride. “Harrison is the older twin, we haven’t named the other yet, still figuring it out. Gotta be real with you we thought we were having one of each gender so we were going to call them Harrison and Eden but turns out the second was a boy. So back to the drawing board.” Eyes lighting up at the books she was passed Leni flicked through them, nodding. “Yeah that would be dope, I’m honestly not even sure what i’m looking for inside the books, I just know I need to learn a lot and quick.”

“Well, I’m only twenty-four, so fairly young, yes.” She didn’t take much offense at the other’s observation, she had always seemed young for her age. “OH, like Harrison Bergeron ––” She paused, not sure if the other would understand. “It’s a book named after the titular character. It’s actually rather sad but ... anyway, Eden is lovely as well. That’s too bad you aren’t able to use it, but I’m sure you’ll come up with another wonderful name.” She was glancing at book covers and backs, trying to pinpoint the right literature for the mother. “Honestly, books on parenting are a little less my ... forte, but I’m sure we can find you what you need. Here, this one is just on sleep patterns with children.” She handed it over, still pushing books aside to continue checking. "It’s lovely that you’re putting in the effort for your babies. Trying to read through books while dealing with TWO newborns ... I wish I’d had a mother as dedicated as you.”

julian had always loved books. for him, they had been an escape from his life more than once. when one of his foster parents had yelled at him again, he locked himself up in his room afterwards and just drowned his mind in a book until he had forgotten all about it. today, after his lectures, he decided to take a little stroll to town to clear up his head and had come across a little bookshop and decided to go in. as soon as he opened the door and the little bells above it rang, the small girl behind the counter greeted him with a smile. he politely smiled back. “I am just looking around.” he said out of habit. he couldn’t help but notice the girl’s big brown eyes.

She nodded in understanding, drumming her fingers against the countertop. “Well, if you need anything at all, just let me know,” she offered, already finding his presence to be gentle and thinking he looked incredibly kind. “We’ve just got a whole new shipment of books in and you’ll find them mainly on display around the front here.”

He immediately understands that laugh, one that he would soon be copying for the same thought. “Well you make the best tea, how can I say no to that?” A smile from ear to ear as the compliment is thrown as smoothly as possible. Andy was easily the ideal neighbour to have, the best company in such city. 

“Well, I’ve spent years perfecting the craft,” she jokes gently, her lips curving upward. “Learning how to make the best tea is what you do when you can’t do all of the hobbies most people are into. It’s nice to hear it’s paid off though.” She began walking alongside him back to the flat they both resided in, feeling as though if she had to run into anyone that evening she was very GLAD it was Nate. “How has your week been?”

Cleo simply nodded at her words and walked towards a seat in one of the quiet spaces of the bookshop. She grabbed the bottle gently and took a couple of sip from the cool liquid. Hopefully, it wasn’t too cold otherwise it wouldn’t have any effect. She placed her elbow on the table next to her and wiped her forehead with her fingertips quickly, then looked at the woman standing in front of her. Now, she felt bad for complaining. “I’m sorry, I just felt really sick all of a sudden.”

Andy could see the woman was genuinely struggling despite what seemed like a melodramatic statement when entering the shop. She shook her head insistently at the other’s apologizing, doe eyes filled with genuine COMPASSION. “Don’t be. This heat is nothing to mess around with.” She reached into the pocket of her thin cardigan, fishing out a tin of mints to offer it forward. “Here, have one. It’ll help calm your stomach. I always keep a tin on me, I’m pretty much an expert in stomach sickness.” She chuckled quietly, though the affects of her meds on her stomach wasn’t exactly funny –– a little humour made difficult subjects easier to handle sometimes.

Odette pulled a face. “Boring and more tedious that trying to transcribe text on a two thousand year old statue.” She laughed then, shaking her head. “No, it’s not quite that bad but I’ll definitely be glad when I’ve done a few. I have no idea how my classes will go, so I can’t plan too far ahead but people always say to get the crap part out of the way.” Making her way over to her usual corner in the store, she looked back at the younger woman. “How about you? What’ve you been up too?”

“Two thousand? That sounds fascinating!” Excitement showed in her big eyes as the other referred to something she probably dealt with so frequently it had become a little boring. Andy was also a fan of historical novels, especially fictional ones involving archaeologists and old tombs and dead languages. And she admired a learned woman such as Odette who had real, VAST knowledge on history. “Of course, though being mostly prepared is a good idea.” At the question being turned on her she shook her head, shrugging her shoulders gently. “Oh, not much really –– keeping this shop in order and reading the new books we’ve gotten in. I always like to see if they’re any good before I put them up for sale. I’ve been able to enjoy the nice weather a little bit as well, though I can’t stay out in the heat too long.” GOODNESS, she was getting distracted by the other’s beauty, she could feel herself growing a little flustered again.

Alejandro had always been an avid reader. He enjoyed diving into stories and letting them consume him in a way. It had been one of his biggest escapes outside of painting and to this day he tried his best to find the time to just sit down and read whenever he could. “Perfect! I was hoping that’d be the case,” Alejandro told her with a grin, immediately catching up and following her guidance. “Moving is always a good thing…that’s how you know the author wanted his words to have a real meaning. A purpose,” he ranted for a moment before chuckling and shaking his head. “Sorry, sorry. Go ahead,” he said, a smile still tugging on his lips and it softened when the young woman started to explain what it was about. “That is something very close to my heart actually,” he shared with a nod. “It sounds like a beautiful read,” he commented before he let out a small laugh before letting out an almost dreamy sigh. “Who could resist a good love story? I’m a big fan myself. I think that we get enough bad news and energy from the world surrounding us so I’d rather read something about life and love any day.”

“Don’t be sorry,” the brunette insisted gently, unable to stop the smile forming on her lips. Clearly he was just as enthusiastic a reader as she, and there was nothing to be apologetic for when it came to that. “Are you from Mexico then? I didn’t want to ask when you came here before but I thought I recognized the accent.” She gazed at him quite sweetly, clutching the book in her hands as if a very VALUABLE item. “I never can, as silly as that might be.” She ducked her slightly, somewhat bashful. She was a bit of a romantic, perhaps STRANGELY so in the society they currently lived in. Some people found that outdated, but so long as love stories continued to charm Andy, she didn’t care to change. “I feel the same way. The world can be so sad and so lacking in love –– but I feel as though love can be spread through the words of literature, don’t you?”

In the two weeks since she had arrived In London once again, Odette had been to this specific bookshop almost every day. She had discovered it on her first day, where she had been wondering the city, trying to find her way again. She had found that it was a good place to work, curled up on the floor in a corner of the bookshop. A way of inspiring her to actually get shit done. Stepping in, her smile was bright as she looked over at the young owner. “How many times have I told you to call me Odette? I’ll hear my last name enough times when the school year starts up.”

The young girl did recall being told to address the other by her first name –– she had perhaps been wary of doing so because it seemed like a slightly more FRIENDLY gesture and getting closer to the woman she had a wee crush on would certainly just lead to her making a fool of herself. Still, she replied with a faint BLUSH, “Right, sorry, Odette. How is your lesson planning going for the new year?” She had grown aware of the other woman’s reason for being in the shop so often and sometimes snuck away from her counter to peek through shelves and catch the other focused intently on her work.

Leni thought nothing of swearing like a sailor, hell she did it around her two newborns, she did it around Alec, the only person she was a little more careful around was Emilia because if she started coming out with swear words that could be a bit f a problem. Grinning lazily when the girl said they had what she was looking for the brunette followed her down the aisle, letting her fingers run along the spines of the books she passed. “Oh, thanks dude. It’s uh…yeah it’s really freaking new so I’m trying to get my head around it.” Which was taking more time than anticipated, she felt like her brain was constantly melting inside her head. Getting up every couple of hours in the night to feed the twins, her whole life had been turned upside down. “You got kids?”

“Oh, no, no kids,” the young woman hastily replied. Not that she wouldn’t love to have them but ... she was still so young and inexperienced, not to mention incredibly single. And then of course there was the fact doctors had told her the chances of her being able to have a child were incredibly SLIM. “I bet it’s quite a new adventure though. What did you name them?” Andy already had a list of names in her journal for her future children, even if they might not even be a possibility. All, of course, were inspired by her favourite characters in literature. She stopped suddenly as she spotted a few books with ‘children’ and ‘parenting’ in the titles. “Here we are! I can help you look through these if you’d like.”
