Displays of Affection
Dermot Kennedy
Subtle displays of affection when in public...
Alone in a secluded area say at a beach he would be more relaxed at the idea of affection. You would run and jump into his arms. Swing off his shoulders, pounce on his back.
It's not that he didn't enjoy showing the world he was in love - he was just a very private person and he felt his love would be stronger if it was focused on you and only you. Not for the world to make judgement on.
His fingers would search for yours and give them a gentle squeeze.
A wink would find you in a crowded room.
Shoulder touching shoulder as he stood next to you.
Walking around he'd swing his hand close to yours relishing in the brisk contact of your skin.
On stage he'd glance to the side to be met with your adoring eyes as you moved to the rhythm of his beat.
A palm on your lower back as he held doors open for you, ushering you through.
He would search for you in a full room - his eyes not resting until they found yours. A smile as wide as the moon engulphing his features when he had done so.
Love shown in private...
Your back would be pressed to his chest, his fingers gripping your hips as you both swayed side to side while preparing your morning coffees.
Lay on the lounge his lap would be your pillow as you watched TV. His fingers combing through your hair as your own neaded his knee.
In the recording studio he'd sit you on his knee as you listened to the playback. The palm of his hand on your thigh as you gently squoze his in delight.
He would wrap his arm around your shoulder as you walked. The cool air crisp on your cheeks as you slipped your hand into his coat pocket.
Tilting his head he'd smile a beam of joy right into your soul.
His love was reserved for only you. The keeper of his heart. The muse of his melodies.
