You make your way to the familiar buttercup field located just a couple steps from your village, a picnic basket in hand. The smell of flowers and fresh-baked pastries waft through the air. It’s only your sixth time having a picnic together, and you’ve been late three times already.
As always, he's there, under the tree.
Meeting Technoblade was strange. It was... unexpected. He'd shown up outside your village in search of good trades. He’d supply emeralds in return for enchantment books. You were the first one to greet Techno, leading him towards the trading stands and even putting in a good word for him so he’d get better trades.
Technoblade left after spending a few nights at your village, leaving behind extra resources and a bouquet of buttercups.
And now, your lingering smiles and acts of hospitality had led to a blooming friendship full of adventure and fun. You’d always been one for exciting trips, and, well, Techno let you tag along his journeys. They were filled with laughter, excitement, and adrenaline.
“About time you got here,” Technoblade teased. “I thought I was going to starve to death. You’re even slower than some of the people back in L’Manburg trying to catch me.”
You scoffed, sitting down next to him under the cool shade. “Oh shush, I know you have golden apples. You just want my cakes.”
“And would that be such a crime?” The man replied, taking off his mask. It was unnerving at first. A man wearing a golden crown, ruby robes, and a pig-like creature’s skull as a mask?
You had gotten used to it quickly though.
See, you were always one for pointing out what was beautiful about things.
His blood-red eyes? They reminded you of roses. His unruly pink hair? Gorgeous when worn in a braid or bun.
Technoblade appreciated that.
Most people would cower in fear but you beamed up at him, you looked at him as if he was the only star in a dark, gloomy night.
To be more accurate, you brought him food in return for adventures but that was another story-- you two were enjoying the sun and snacking, what more was there to say?
“Techno,” you started, carefully biting on a delicate slice of cake. “What do you do when you’re not out and about?”
Technoblade paused. “Well, I just spend my time at home, basically.”
“Yes, but, doesn’t it ever get lonely?”
That was a punch in the gut.
The easy answer was yes, it was lonely.
Technoblade lived alone in a cottage far from your village, and it was a drastic contrast from the atmosphere here.
Where you lived, the sun was almost always shining against a cerulean sky, the town was filled with laughter, and you were almost never really alone. You could play with the children, cook delicious food with your friends, meet strangers.
Back at Techno’s cottage, quiet filled every corner of the room, the cold would bite at your ears, and the sun shone rarely. The bubbling of potions being made or the occasional groan from a mob outside might’ve sounded against the blank silence.
However, it was still lonely.
But could he really admit that?
“I guess it is a bit lonely, but I enjoy the silence,” Techno said after clearing his throat. He wanted to elaborate, to say that he really did feel content with the loneliness, but he wasn’t. This wasn’t the type of loneliness where you could curl up and read a book. This was the type of loneliness that could hurt.
You leaned back and tilted your head as if analyzing him, trying to see into him.
“I could come to visit you?”
Shoot.
That wasn’t how it was supposed to come out.
You immediately turned redder than the strawberries you’d brought, sputtering and stammering.
“I mean- just- y’know, if you wanted me to? But I get if you don’t because that would be super awkward but I don’t want to make you awkward and this is totally out of my comfort zone and I’m rambling-”
What Technoblade did next made you even redder, if possible.
He tucked a small flower into your hair-- a flower similar to the first one he’d ever gifted you-- and smiled, mirroring your pose and leaning back.
“That’d be nice, Buttercup,” he murmured.
A/N: I know this is pretty short but this is my first piece of writing that I’m posting :) I really like the idea of Techno being a big softie on the inside lol. I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy! <3
