reposting this because way too many notes but here is a short, basic guide to security tags and what you need to remove them (not including tags that need to be removed by an s3 handkey, like spider tags)
by “magnet” this person means neodymium magnets. you will likely need multiple (i have heard 15) to open these tags. they look like this. you should be able to find them easily either online or at your local wãlmârt or hômè dëpòt.

The original post has way too many notes, but I also felt the need to repost to add some recent and relevant info. These hidden security cameras are real, and they are prevalent. They have been said to be at Wa1mar+ and U1+a (usually in chains in major cities).
A general rule of thumb is if the store or section of the store seems too good to be true (a major chain store with very few visible cameras or way too perfect/convenient blind spots) then you can suspect hidden cameras. Looking for these cams will be harder to hide since you’ll really have to study the ceiling and such much more closely, but keep your eye out for a small black hole that can be seen in these pictures. If anyone has any additional info to add, please do!
Stay safe and stay lucky my friends 🍀
hi i’m the one who asked if i could send a list of stores😭 here they are:
ab3rcr0mb!3
a3ropostal3
am3rican 3agle outfitt3rs
bath & b0dy works
the b0dy sh0p
for3v3r 21
gam3stop
garag3 (it’s a clothing store)
h0l|ist3r
h0t t0pic
jcpe3nn3y
|ush
macy$
m0rphe
pac$un
p!nk
seph0ra
$p3ncer’s
t!lly’s
vict0ria’s s3cret
zum!ez
also a weird thing about the s3ph0ra in this mall is that it might not have alarms?? someone who says that they would “buy” all their expensive makeup from there and the alarm has never went off 😭 the mall is sort of seen as “ghetto” so maybe that could factor in it
ab3rcr0mb!3 - I'm not sure ahh sorry!
a3ropostal3 - not super sure, but I'm pretty sure it isn't too too hard
am3rican 3agle outfitt3rs - a bit harder, but I don't go here too often
bath & b0dy works - very easy in my opinion, the SA are a little pushy though, so watch out for them! no tagging that ive seen
the b0dy sh0p - ive never heard of this one sorryy
for3v3r 21 - incredibly easy from my exp, not much tagging at all
gam3stop - very risky, im always hesistant with tech stores though! please be careful here <3
garag3 (it’s a clothing store) - also never heard of this one either ahh
h0l|ist3r - ive heard mixed things, but if your mall is a bit ghetto i think you'll be okay!
h0t t0pic - pfft, easy peasy. always check for tagging though! i go crazy here, watch for attentive SA
jcpe3nn3y - risky! since it's one of those department stores, as long as your careful you should be okay though
|ush - ive actually never been to a lush but ive heard different things, some are easy some are really hard, scout out yours first and practice safety as always!
macy$ - ahh risky, BUT IF UR MACYS HAS A MACYS BACKSTAGE OMG <3 ITS LIKE LIFTER PARADISE, SUPER EASY AND GREAT STUFF, NO TAGGING
m0rphe - in my exp, super easy, very little SA and tall shelves! no tagging <3
pac$un - ehhh tagging is there, fitting room arent checked though
p!nk - pink and VS have been relatively easy for me, no tagging on MOST panties, but tagging on ALL bras and other lingerie. attentive SA but not too bad at my location
seph0ra - differs a LOT, if you have a ghetto mall and no sensors though, go for it
$p3ncer’s - MY FAV ALL TIME FAV STORE <333 SUPER EASY, NO TOWERS, DIMLY LIT, LITTLE SA, however there are hard tags on some thing so that you have to buy them to get them off </3
t!lly’s - never been sorry!!
vict0ria’s s3cret - i answered in pink >:)
zum!ez - also not sure about this one, sorry sorry!
i hope that helps!!!
i’ve had experience in all but one of these stores so:
ab3rcrOmb!3 —> most sa’s are adults here and they pay attention. they def profile so dress high class and look mature. my store has a lot of tagged items so u have to buy a hook and conceal in dressing rooms.
a3ropostal3 —> easy as hell LOL. very few workers work at the same time (2-3) in a big store so i feel sorry for them 😭 most items $50+ are tagged and need to be removed with a hook. my location doesn’t count items in and out of the dressing rooms.
am3rican 3agle outfitt3rs —> sa is a literal more intense here. sa counts clothing in and out of the dressing rooms so you’ll have to hide items within one another to bring in the dressing room. around 3/4 of the items are tagged and require a hook.
bath & bOdy works —> usually very crowded with customers so it might be difficult. smaller items like those air fresheners are easy tho. bbw is known to not accuse someone of l!fting (just read a story about how an sa saw items in someone’s bag and asked them if they needed a store bag to hold everything). candles and stuff can get heavy so bring a sturdy bag/purse.
the bOdy shOp —> don’t have one near me
for3v3r 21 —> easy as hell. i never l!ft from this store/hhh & em anymore but when i did it was so easy. sa counts clothes coming in and out, so you have to hide items in between one another. u can also conceal items on the floor because the camera placements are so random and create so many clubs spots. most aren’t tagged anyway
gam3stop —> harder because they have 360 rotatable cameras. not really any blind spots so u have to create some. most higher tech items are tagged with spider wraps so u need an s3 key.
garag3 —> tagged items removable with a hook. they’re easy if u know what you’re doing. sa’s at my location r early 20s and spend most of the time restocking clothes.
hOllist3r —> almost everything is tagged, so you need a hook. sa’s don’t count or keep track of the dressing rooms, so it’s super easy. also the store is dark so it makes it easier to conceal and stuff
hot topic —> flowing with customers but items are small and easy to conceal. most items aren’t tagged/lightly tagged (RFID sticker).
jcpe3nn3y —> depends on what brand you’re getting because each sub brand tags differently
lush —> attentive sa’s so come when it’s busier. the store has a really open layout making it harder to conceal.
macy$ —> they build cases so be careful. most items aren’t tagged/lightly tagged (RFID stickers). don’t conceal in the beauty/bag section bc they have hella cams. go for the home/pots&pans section for concealing.
mOrphe —> just go to ūltā
pac$un —> easy as HELL omg. everyone is a teenager and spends most of their time restocking. there’s usually like one adult per shift so be careful of them. i’m friends with the workers here bc of how often i go and i l!ft every time i come. teen sa’s don’t give a shit.
p!nk —> tagged clothes & attentive sa’s. they check all their employees for internal theft so they tags theft seriously! hide items within one another and enter the dressing rooms to conceal. use a hook.
sephOra —> don’t fuck around here if you’re new. i did when i was new and almost got caught. sēphora should be a hit once and don’t come back for a while kind of store since they have a shit ton of cameras (usually every isle) and HELLA attentive sa’s. they’re in your face about everything and there are sa’s by the door to stop l!fters. perfumes are tagged but not really anything else. if you ever l!fted here they probably know about it.
$03ncer's —> small store. i fucking hate this store but it should be easy since only around 1/2 is tagged anyway. nothing is heavily tagged, and the store is usually on the darker side which helps u conceal easier.
t!'lly's —> they have towers by the tiny ass exit so u have to make sure EVERYTHING is untagged. the entrance/exit have cams recording at all times so u have to enter and exit on camera. nothing here is my style so i don’t go here often but i would just conceal in dressing rooms.
victOria's s3cret —> basically same as p!nk since they’re sister companies
zum!ez —> basically same as h0t tõp!c, $pencērs, and t!łlys
not trying to be the obnoxious contrarian/devils advocate but I just want to emphasize the importance of casing your own store and checking your local shops out out by taking a casual window shopping trip and observing the store closely, reading online reviews and looking at photos of the location if there are any, because I have definitely had some different experiences at some stores than the folks above ^
just as a few examples:
my ab3rcrombie tags 100% of things but the employees DGAF so I find it quite easy. my h0llister barely tags shit my h0tter t0pic pencil tags nearly everything and there are no blind spots to detag anything so I dont usually grab stuff from them zumiez counts in and out and the employees are usually pretty loyal to the store, keep an eye on customers, and will try to stop you from l1fting, so I'm careful here. the store layout does tend to create some natural blind spots you can swipe from if you are very quick.
sorry this post ends up being so long but stormy is right!!! our stores r literally so different so remember to take everything u read on here with a grain of salt!!
how do yall lift shoes???

What Stealing Looks Like
From someone who works in retail
Leaving behind empty packages. The only way we can report an item being stolen if we didn’t see the crime with our own eyes is by finding an empty package. If there’s no empty package, it’s very easy to chalk it up to a slightly incorrect inventory. Our inventory is often very incorrect.
Seeing someone lurking around the store for a long period of time not actively engaging in items. It’s suspicious. You know that feeling you get when you see people just loitering around? Similar feeling when you see someone just casually looking at products without really picking up anything to actually buy. Retail employees are bored and WILL follow you around and check the sections you’ve been lurking in.
Looking at items with a big bag/backpack. If you’re really interested in some items and you have a big bag, retail employees are going to watch you leave and then immediately swarm to the items you were looking at.
Being too engaged in products. Maybe you aren’t stealing but it might throw up a red flag. Also interacting with employees an irregular amount. Once again maybe not stealing but we’ll remember you more if you talk to us often. I feel like this should be obvious but you never know.
Anyway, feel free to reblog this to let your followers know what stealing looks like! I’m mostly harping on the first point here. Also please remember it is a federal crime to tamper with security devices and you will be in MORE trouble for doing that than actually stealing sometimes. Not that any of you are stealing of course.
Better ideas:
Know what you want to snag -- get in & out efficiently & without loitering
Not lifting from the same place more than 3 times -- be sure to actually buy things
Dress well but not overly classy -- Like you just went golfing or got off work at the office
Dont act nervous-- be calm & easy-living. Remember that you baked the bread and deserve more than a slice.
Swipe things not money -- that's a crime for people with more power
Dont be a hassle for the employees-- dont give them a reason to check security cams.
Bring a friend -- dont be obnoxious or draw attention, but people are likely to leave alone groups, you get a sort of lookout, it's more fun, etc etc etc
This is advice for having fun in the hit animated game "The Sims" and is terrible advice IRL, of course, so never ever ever do this IRL unless you want to die from cooking or something
