There was always a moment, a single moment in particular in every meeting between strangers where you either just clicked, or you disconnected. With Angeline, Rose was luckily feeling a click rather than a disconnection, and it had occurred the moment Angel recognized Rosemary for her flaming locks of auburn hair. It wasn’t that Rose was obsessed with her hair per say, but the girl had always been proud of it, adored it when her mother and sister brushed out the tangles for her before bed and absentmindedly stroked her curls when she was within an arms length away. “I remember! I’ve never had such a great hair cut,” Rose admitted, sincerity seeping into her tone. “Usually, hairdressers get a little carried away into their own world and forget what my request was, so I always end up with my hair looking a little askew. With you, though — you’ve got a real passion for hairdressing, Angel.” Bending down to pluck a small sunflower out of the girl’s basket, Rosemary twirled the blossom between her fingers as her eyes fought to keep up with the yellow blur of petals. The sunflowers on Lilac Lane always bloomed a little more lively than the Photoshopped flowers Rose was always seeing in magazines. With these flowers and Angel’s talent, Rose was almost certain that the company investing in this fancy photoshoot would be nothing less than pleased. “It sounds fantastic, Angel,” she smiled, moving to return the flower to the basket but deciding against it at the last moment. There was something about the way Angel’s lips pursed around the word girlfriend that made Rose feel a little unsettled. It was almost as though the other girl wasn’t too sure of where she stood with her significant other. That was a sensation Rose was all too familiar with, and she wouldn’t wish it on anyone else. ”I know you’re the one who has an eye for this stuff, but I’ve always thought that bright flowers in dark hair…” trailing off, Rose gently took off the other girl’s hat and held it in the crook of her arm. “… looked nothing short of delicately beautiful,” she concluded, tucking the small sunflower behind Angel’s hair. Reaching into the basket once more to find one that was similar in size, Rosemary sent the other girl a small smile before holding it out towards her. “For your girlfriend, so the two of you can match,” she offered, looking down at the ground. “And well, relax yes, that was the initial plan, but talking to strangers was definitely on today’s agenda as well.”
