She couldn’t remember the last time she was able to just sit and talk with someone like this. What was more; she couldn’t remember the last time she was able to sit and talk with a man who maintained eye contact the whole time. There was something about his eyes. The deep steel blue that mirrored every emotion and facial expression he made. When he smiled, she could see that it was genuine as every time that smile was right there behind his eyes. It was the same when topics of discussion moved to more seriousness. The intensity of his gaze when he told what it was like for him and his family after the storm of the south had forced his family to move from their home to back East. There was a sadness there, a longing even. Feeling that good old need to rescue to someone, she tried to shake it off.
