Il blog (sì, c’era anche un blog) si è fatto il lifting e adesso si chiama 199Football... un nome un po’ così ma fare peggio dell’originale era oggettivamente difficile.

2020 Nike Super Eagles kit is quite💦

The commercial success of the highly hyped Nigeria’s kit released by Nike for the last World Cup have, maybe, put definitely an end to the dark age of the copy-pasted templates which raged from the early 2000s until a few years ago. That’s at least what I hope.

Two years later we hail another surprising release which, hate it or love it, can’t leave indifferent. According to the designers the Super Eagles’ new kit is inspired by agbada traditional attire, a choice that follows the current trend which, more and more often, sees manufacturers draw on national tradition elements and vintage templates as we have seen recently in Puma’s “Renaissance” Italy green jersey or in the work Adidas did for Belgium and Japan in the last World Cup. Even the away jersey has undergone a restyle, with the dark green of the last kit that have left some room for a catchy kind of arrow design on the collar and edge sleeves.

But, what really turns my fantasy on, and by fantasy I mean nostalgia, is the quite clear reference to the white stripe kit Nigeria weared between 1996 and 1998, that of the Olympic gold medal in Atlanta. I certainly prefer the old one, with that flashy eagle on the chest and the so 90s overlapped country name inscription, but I appreciate the fact that some NIke designer have somehow revived a jersey that I still keep jelaously in my closet.
