200 DOGS WILL BE POISONED BY FRIDAY! PLEASE HELP!

Hello my name is Melissa Saldanna. Last year I traveled to a wonderful place in Costa Rica that will soon end in a grotesque and inhumane manner. This place is located in the mountains. It is also the home of over 200 dogs. The most beautiful and caring animals I have encountered. These animals were so happy to see me and I felt they trusted me even though they were rescued from the streets and abusive homes. 

They live in an open field were all the people taking care of them do it for FREE! These are people who can’t give money so they spend hours every day feeding and loving these animals.

This friday March 11, 2016 all these animals will be put to sleep. You may be thinking this is a humane way of putting our best friends to sleep. The problem is that in Costa Rica they don’t give an overdose of anesthesia, they actually poison these furry friends and the death is a long and painful way to leave this earth. All 200 of these animals will be poisoned this friday. 

Please help us help these animals find a place to live. 

THE PLAN!

The plan is to raise money to  relocate these animals to a place where they can live until they are adopted! The money will be used for moving trucks special for them to transport them to a new location! The money will also be used toward the new location where they will live until they are all adopted! They need an open field and a roof over their heads! These dogs are being evicted from their current location and if Casadona doesn’t come up with the money by Friday for their new location they will be put to sleep.

please don’t make your dog be vegan.

Dogs are carnivores. Sure, under sufferance they may resort to eating plant based materials to survive but it's undeniable that dogs have an overwhelming bias to a carnivorous diet. Dogs are incapable of digesting cellulose - cellulose is what plant based materials are made up of on a cellular level. Dogs do not have the correct dentition to grind and smash up vegetables as they chew them to make them digestible, the way their teeth and mouths are structured means that they eat in a 'chopping' fashion - there is no grinding action. Dogs also do not produce amylase - amylase is an enzyme that helps to break down starches into sugars, it is present in the saliva of animals who are intended to eat a high plant matter diet - humans included!

Looking at the scientifically proven information above, how could anybody feed their dog a diet based entirely on plant matter? Dogs are amazing creatures inside and out. I'm sure a dog fed a vegan diet would survive BUT there is a huge difference between just getting by and thriving! We want the very best for our pets, they give themselves to us fully and we should do all that we can for them to ensure that they have healthy and happy lives. There are many animals that can be kept as pets that WILL thrive on a plant matter based diet! dogs are absolutely not one of them.

Small amounts of vegetables included in your dogs diet when prepared the right way can be beneficial. When the vegetables are ground or pulped, dogs are able to absorb the vitamins and minerals present, but you could not rely on this to meet their nutritional requirements alone, vegetables should be included purely as an additive to a meat based diet and I do not recommend vegetable intake to exceed 10% of your dogs diet. Vegetables can also be a great source of roughage for dogs - feed them finally chopped and you will see them on the way out and can rest assured your dogs intestinal tract has had a good sweep out but this does not contribute anything to their nutrition.

I highly recommend taking your dog to a vet and getting them to suggest the best possible diet for your dog. All dogs are different, so it’s best to seek professional advice. I also recommend staying away from supermarket dog foods. I go to a local, independent pet food store, my dog is fed an all raw diet and he is extremely healthy and happy! 

If you can’t handle feeding your dog meat and other animal products, then perhaps get an animal that can healthily live on a plant based diet.

I was wondering if you could give me any advice on wether the the Nikouline circus in Moscow is humane towards its animals or if I should steer clear of it? My family really wants to go but I'm not sure because, although the acrobatics are supposed to be amazing, it has many animal acts and I don't want to support something that practices animal cruelty

I don’t know much about that circus but I’ve just quickly read up on it and in my opinion, steer clear. Using animals for entertainment and profit is just not okay. These are wild animals that are made to do unnatural tricks and they aren’t treated well at all. They drug the animals to make them docile and beat them when they don’t do the tricks they’re meant to.  Although the non animal acts may be amazing, I personally wouldn’t want to support them at all.

I usually don’t post personal things on this blog but right now I am so upset with the vegan community in my town. I was r*ped by a very well known vegan/cafe owner in our town a few years ago and since coming out and not being scared to tell people, I've copped A LOT of abuse.  There is no reason AT ALL to support/be friends with a known abuser/rapist!!! I can not stress this enough!! I do not care if they are vegan, you still do not at all support or defend them!!!!!  I just want some validation, i just want to know that I am not in the wrong for outing him. please send love and hugs to me on here or my main blog soymilkyy.tumblr.com and please if you are part of the Adelaide Vegan community, stop support ALL abusers.

I have encountered numerous issues with this pet supply chain, and enough is enough. Pet Goods located at 1125 Central Park Ave Scarsdale, NY 10583 is unsanitary, and treats their small animals terribly. 

I have personally witnessed the following over the course of a year:

A sickly rabbit: Sides sucked in, loose droppings, lethargic and not alert.  I told a manager, who was EXTREMELY rude and could barely be bothered to stop cursing and acting out with another employee to speak to me. Rabbit was not there when I returned a week later.

An employee tossing a box of live rat pups into a plastic bag like they were objects. Ignored me when I expressed he shouldn’t throw live animals.

Many, many dead fish floating in tanks.

Betta fish in tiny cups, with dirty water. 

Parakeets being kept in dirty cages, without enough ventilation, species inappropriate toys (or no toys at all), and being fed an improper seed diet, along with VERY dirty water. 

Most recently (April 2015) EXTREMELY overcrowded mice and rat tanks. All the tanks had very stressed out animals, and the substrate was filthy. One tank have THREE DEAD RAT PUPS (and multiple dying ones) who had been there for hours. Dead baby rats, ROTTING, alongside their litter mates and mothers. I told an associate, who was friendly, but clearly not at all concerned about the animals. 

What can you do?

Boycott all Pet Goods locations.
