Whole-heartedly BEGGING writers to unlearn everything schools taught you about how long a paragraph is. If theres a new subject, INCLUDING ACTIONS, theres a new paragraph. A paragraph can be a single word too btw stop making things unreadable

Ok So I’m getting more notes than I thought quicker than I expected! So I’m gonna elaborate bc I want to. 

I get it, when you’re someone who writes a lot and talks a lot, it’s hard to keep things readable, but it’s not as much about cutting out the fat(that can be a problem) so much as a formatting issue. 

You are also actively NERFING yourself by not formatting it correctly, it can make impactful scenes feel so, so much better. Compare this, 

To THIS. 

Easier to read, and hits harder. 

No more over-saturated paragraphs. Space things out.

It’s also important to vary paragraph length, the same way it’s important to vary sentence length. It breaks up your reading mind, speeds it up and slows it down, and helps you highlight on what’s important.

Characters who are absolute trashfires have their virtues, but there’s also something to be said for a character who’s competent, collected, and has their life thoroughly together, and also has one specific thing that’s deeply wrong with them.

Show of hands: who else is surviving purely because of fanfiction right now? Because if I couldn't read about my favourite idiots getting stuck in different time periods, in ridiculous scenarios and then having maddeningly good sex, I wouldn't get up in the morning.

In terms of how Wentworth behaves towards Anne over the course of the novel, Persuasion is 99% “I’m so over you. Do you see how over you I am? I’m going to flirt with this girl I have absolutely no feelings for right in front of your face, just to show you how over you I am. I may just end up marrying her solely in order to make it clear that you are no longer on my mind”. And then segues immediately to “you pierce my soul. I have loved none but you.” There is no middle ground between these two states. At no point do they pause on friendship. I’m not even sure they have a conversation before Wentworth gives up the act. Never, in the history of literature, have two people more obviously been Not Friends.

Listen I’m gonna watch the new movie, probably enjoy it ok because I’m at that point in my life of “this is fine, this is all fine” (even though Persuasion may be my absolute favorite novel).
