Pinky’s delighted voice carries out the elevator, echoing through the mortuary. Brain glances up to his partner before carrying his eyes back to the body before him. It’s a cold case, but WBPD Captain Dot Warner has allowed him to look through the old file and research with the lifelike cadaver in the county hospital morgue. It obviously isn’t a real body anymore, but it can still show great results.
“What does it say, Pinky?”
“Methan—metha—ma…” he trails off, and Brain suppresses a groan.
“Methamphetamine?”
His much skinnier partner nods, “That-tainted meat. What does that mean, Brain?”
“It means we have a drug-abuser victim?”
“Oh, why do they abuse drugs, Brain? The only drugs they should use are the ones that the doctor gives them. Don’t you agree?”
Brain nods to appease his partner. They’re consultants. In Brain’s mind, victims like these are done in on their own. They’re lost causes. However, lost causes are what Pinky specializes in. He was a discredited doctor when he found the plump, depressed medical examiner squatting in his own alcoholic filth in a back alley. He may not always have a clear mindset or stable mentality, but his heart is in the right place.
He walks over to the cadaver and pokes the slightly fried skin. “What did you use this time?”
“Pork most closely resembles human flesh,” he responds then pulls off his gloves. “I’m starving.”
Pinky grins, “There’s a restaurant not far from here, Brain. It has good reviews, you know.”
He nods. “Sounds good. Anything but”
“Pork. Yeah, I figured.” Pinky flits through his wallet. “It’s Tuscan food. I’ll go grab it and meet you at home?”
“Sure, Pink.”
Brain watches Pinky walk away before suturing the body in front of him. He falls back into his mind, remembering the medical practices he learned decades ago. Needle clamps locked in place. Tissue forceps used to expose the dried pork. He pauses, hands freezing over the wound. Before he continues the suture, he removes said dissected meat. Thinking back, he cringes. This could be his body lying on a slab if Pinky hadn’t found him.
Line up the edges… push the needle through the skin at a ninety-degree angle, just a centimeter to the right of the opening. Just above the fat. Twist, twist. Always clockwise. The body moves like a clock. We age up, never age down. Unlock the needle driver. It’s like a car, racing away down the tracks. Reattach and pull like you’re resetting the racetrack. Pull and release. Wrap twice and pull. Two loops. First throw.
Moves on from a racetrack to baseball. Tighten the windup, knot lying flat. Ready for the second throw. Wrap the long end and pull through the short end. Overhand toss over the home plate. Another overhead knot. It’s a foul ball. Try again. Tighten the windup, knot lying flat. Ready for the second throw. Wrap the long end and pull through the short end. Counterclockwise this time. Brain shakes his head to hoist himself off the pitcher’s mound and back to reality. He sterilizes the equipment, tosses the gloves into the chemical waste bin, and locks up the cadaver. He washes his hands, removes his protective wear, and collects his belongings. Including the case file that Pinky has left on the medical table. It doesn’t take long to get home. He takes a cab as he’s used to now. Not long ago, he remembers walking from place to place.
Occasionally, he’d gain access to a cab, but there was always a catch. He’d return favors or crouch in the floorboard. It feels nice riding around the city like a normal person. Like an average, everyday person who can have normal chitchat. Brain has never enjoyed chitchat in the first place, referring to it as ‘mindless drivel’, but he’s now a person who can have it. He pays the cabbie when it comes to a stop on the curb. Climbing the stairs, he pulls out a key – heh, he has a key!
A key that actually goes somewhere. A shelter. Upon opening the door, he’s greeted by a welcoming smell. A traditional baked lasagna, Brain’s olfactory sense is exceptional. He can sniff out ingredients like something he’s trained for. Pinky has jokingly said he could have been a police dog in another life. He notes the parmesan afterthought lingering in the air. It must be Lasagne Alla Firenze from San Gimignano. The food must have just been reheated.
“Ah, good, Brain. You’re home!”
Pinky runs in, oven mitts still on his hands, as he gleefully wraps his arms around his partner. Brain doesn’t like to be touched, and he never allows it in public. At home, though, in private, he finds he doesn’t mind it as much. At least, not when the action is being done by this individual. This individual with who he works. Who he comes home to. Who he eats meals with. This individual with who he shares his bed. With Pinky, with who he shares his life.
So lemme get this straight, even though it's anything but. Brain and Pinky:
Have a biological child
Were literally married in that Oliver Twist spoof this past season
Are stated multiple times to be the most important things to each other, with Pinky willing to do anything for Brain and Brain willing to give up everything, even the LITERAL ENTIRE WORLD for Pinky
And have been described as having a very deep love for each other by both of their voice actors too many times to count
Brinky is literally the most canon, non-canon ship I've ever seen in my life
I came away from season 2 after watching with the feeling that it was somehow very different than season 1. But the tone and style, the acting and the writing choices- they’re all very similar. It’s something else, I think.
Remember in season 1 when we were combing through the episodes and there’s this teeny tiny little moment in episode 9:
Which was a little surprising, you know because before that scene, in both the original the reboot, it had always been this:
So are we all just going to ignore the way S2 ended for Pinky and the Brain?? Like ?? -
They weren’t in episode 13, so their last appearance is episode 12, in which they run off together parodying the end of the movie “the graduate”, holding hands laughing together as they go on a bus trip to Paris ?? Like what-
