“ugh, i got into a fight with my girlfriend, and im having a hard time talking to her about it and resolving it, what should i do?”
the understanding giraffe:
Personally I think Junna’s real win the the Revue of Hunting was not letting her issues with her family come up during the fight with Nana because you know “You’ve wasted your potential by trying to follow your passions” is like every phone call with her parents and she did not need that along with everything else in the Revue
散り散り
what about hikaren and futakao parallels. kaoruko and futaba are a reflection of what hikari fears her and karen would be if she didnt distance herself
going into depth because I cant stop thinking about this
sooo both pairs are childhood friends who made a promise to each other. kaoruko and futaba stayed together, while karen and hikari seperated, both to fulfill those sacred promises.
both hikari and kaoruko were already standing on stage, and guided their partners to the stage when they made their promises. both are reliant on their partners in the sense that they need their partners to keep them on track. when things get too difficult, kaoruko runs off and futaba finds her, bringing her back and reminding her why she stands on stage. hikari needs karen to keep up her drive and motivation towards her dream. she probably would still be in theater without karen, but after losing in the London revues, she wouldve quit all together.
both futaba and karen are fans of their partners in a way thats almost self destructive to them as stage girls. they're not aiming for position zero for themselves, they want it for their partners. Which limits their potential as stage girls and automatically bars them from becoming top stars. futaba just has the self awareness to realize it and drive to change it, while karen is so blinded by Hikari and their promise, she literally dies upon realizing she has nothing else as a stage girl. Theres a reason futaba was chosen for the revues and not karen, despite karen having the talent futaba lacks.
It's futaba's realization that she, too, has a dream beyond kaoruko that forces them both to change. kaoruko was perfectly fine with futaba staying by her side as her fan. She was comfortable and content that way. But when Futaba started catching up, she got scared and ran away. and futaba came and dragged her back again. Even in the movie, its still futaba doing the pushing for Kaoruko, with Kaoruko trying to keep things the way they are. thats what hikari doesnt want.
Ultimately hikari wants position zero for herself. She doesnt want to be bound to one role and one stage with Karen her whole life. She wants to be able to stand on stage and shine without Karen, but doesnt want to hurt her in the process. she distances herself so she doesnt have to rely on her in the same way kaoruko does futaba
Day 2 | Stuck
"Day by day, we resemble each other more and more. Your laughter and tears, I know it all. Don't be scared, we're a fate tied by the sun. It's our destiny to be together"
i had a long dream; i think i loved you in it
Shoujo Kageki Revue Starlight (2018) & Gekijouban Shoujo Kageki Revue Starlight (2021) // Kishida Rio's Thread Hell (1984)
The Revue Starlight movie is crazy. What if you trapped your friends in a tournament where they were forced to violently battle each other again and again, and a year after being dragged kicking and screaming from the timeloop you created you hear them talking about how much they wish they were in the tournament again? Can you imagine? Can you fucking imagine?

one of my favorite motifs in music is the, like, reminder of gentleness- an overarching bell line, or something like nana's part of hoshiboshi no kizuna where there's a dichotomy between big heavy bass and guitar interspersed with tender and held-out strings and vocal, or a reprised nostalgic motif over a grander and more ominous backing (really love funeral of flowers from fire emblem three houses)
anyways so that just really ties into my love of characters like daiba nana!! because she IS incredibly cruel and dedicated to perpetuating her own beliefs over anyone else's no matter what, but she's never Mean about it. she'll put her opponents down, play mind games (hikanana beef is so important to me), but it's all incredibly. gentle in a way. she's so NiceTM. and not like in an inherently* manipulative way her kindness has genuinely warped her. i'm such a big fan...
*back to mind games part she IS manipulative with her tender demeanor, in the context of a battle, as a weapon, toxic parent style Banana Knows What's Best For You I'm Doing This For You style. honestly top 3 most sickening manipulation tactics. i cheered
is this shiro struggling to get over her obsessive feelings or is it shiro x shiro. your choice

People who haven't watched Revue Starlight don't know about the two girls who should have been left dead inside after losing a supernatural stage competition but were so in love with each other and so determined to share a stage together that they kept the spark of life burning inside them even when it should have been snuffed out because that fire is shared between them and nothing, and nobody, not even Giraffe God Avatar, can douse it while the other is still alive.
They don't know about one girl breaking into a closed circle time loop and rewriting the narrative when she should have been hollowed out but couldn't give up because the other half of her flame was right there, trapped, stagnant through someone else's desires, and she needed to break that cage even if it meant doing the impossible, even if it might have meant becoming trapped again herself.
They don't know about the two girls who rewrote a tragedy through their refusal to let their love be doomed and empty, who saved those around them in their pursuit of saving each other, who took a story that was always meant to end in tears and insisted that this time it would end with hope.
Please watch Revue Starlight.
princess tutu and revue starlight are sister stories, to me.
stories about stories within stories where the line between characters and actors and reality and fiction are intristically blurred because the characters are playing characters within a story that mirrors the story the audience is watching unfold.
both about how tragedy can be meaningful and cathartic, and accepting your fate can be a comfort, but it is just as worthwhile to fight tooth and nail against those chains and claw your way to a happier ending, because it’s never just you trapped in that story, the people you love are stuck in this tragedy too, and fighting for your happy ending is fighting for theirs too.
stories about love being painful and difficult but always worthwhile, stories about love not being enough to fix it alone, but love being enough to give them the strength and will to keep fighting until that happy ending is found.
