30-day Tales of [Art] Challenge Day 19: Favorite Quote - Luke/Guy/Jade Battle Win
I was going to do one of the more profound line from the series (of which there are many), but I knew I’d be lying to myself.

<semi hiatus notice: ffxiv heavensward is now live, and i will likely spend my weekend with it. i may or may not work on a draft or two if i can manage to tear my eyes from the game, although i somehow doubt i will except for the sake of sleep.>

I like people with depth, I like people with emotion, I like people with a strong mind, an interesting mind, a twisted mind, and also someone that can make me smile.

Hands, are the most honest part of the human body, they cannot lie as laughing eyes and the mouth can.

I’m not the same everyday. There are times where I’m loud and chatty, and there are times when I’m really quiet. I don’t think I can define myself.

The sound of voice that he knew all too well in Luke’s ear was what drew his gaze up from the sword across his knees. The half polished blade slipped from his fingers to the stones below with a clatter that seemed rather distant. His first thought was that perhaps someone had made another replica of Asch, but no, the eyes were too bright and aware to be a newborn replica. But if there had been another replica running around, why hadn’t he or Asch ever known about them?
He didn’t have an answer to that question, he didn’t know how to respond to a situation like this at all. It was worse than when he’d met Asch the first time, so much worse. In part because here and now he actually had time to process what he was seeing.
One thing he was sure of as he straightened out–whoever this was gave off the same draw that he felt around Asch. If nothing else, they had the same fonon frequency. They were absolutely isofons.
“I don’t… I don’t think so–” he wasn’t sure what else to say but he didn’t have a chance to say it, a voice sounding from within the nearby house.
“Luke! I’m starting to think you’re planning on polishing that sword all day to avoid sparring with me.”
Asch.
Panic welled up in Luke’s throat. He’d just gotten on good terms with his original, he didn’t want to deal with Asch’s reaction to this… this other him… when he didn’t even know how to deal with it himself. He grabs the sword from the ground and moves to his double.
“Hurry, he–he can’t see you–” he says, pulling on the other redhead’s arm to get him away from where Asch would step out any moment now, out and around to the small woods around the house he was staying with Asch in near Belkend. He could hear Asch calling for him, wondering where he went. He knew he’d hear about it later, but it was far, far better than trying to explain the bizarre situation of another him.
Startled by the obvious distress his counterpart was in, Luke remained silent through the other redhead’s stammered replies. Raising an eyebrow in a gesture of confused wonder, he turned his head towards the open window the all-too-familiar voice had slipped through. His heart was racing, one train of thought rushing into another, both of them crashing with a resounding noise that echoed through his head.
Asch. What was Asch doing here? And who was this impersonator? He seemed more than acquainted with his original-- who was absolutely not supposed to spend time sparring with a replica of his. Luke’s latest information about Asch’s whereabouts had allowed for mere guesswork, contact between them more than scarce after the latest events. Their mental link wasn’t severed, that much was sure, yet Asch preferred to keep to himself as of late, and Luke couldn’t say he missed the repeated insults being thrown not only at but also into his head.
The sudden attempt of hiding him in the cluster of trees nearby jerked Luke’s conscience back into the present mess, and he had to forcibly prevent his hand from drawing the sword from his belt and attacking the other him. A hiss slipped through his lips, brows drawn together as he glared at his opponent. “And that would be bad how, exactly? What is he doing here anyway?” He was starting to get angry, frustration getting the better of him. Frustration about how this situation certainly wasn’t what he had expected when going for a walk on his own, straying from the close woods surrounding Belkend and walking along the river to gain a little time to think.
Shrugging off the hand holding him in place, he stepped back to get a better look at the young man in front of him. Surprised, he realized that this Luke appeared to be taller than him, hair slightly longer than he would have liked it, lean muscle shaping his frame. Handsome, Luke couldn’t help but think and mentally slapped himself the next instant. What the hell, he groaned inwardly while turning his head to gaze off into the distance.
“Fine. Go speak to him, but return here. I’ll wait.” It wasn’t like he was keen on meeting Asch again, especially not here and now, with him absolutely clueless as to what was going on. Asch wouldn’t pass up on a chance to humiliate him-- no, he could very well go without another situation like the ones he had already witnessed. Hands slipping his pockets, Luke braced his back against one of the trees. Well then. If the other him didn’t return anytime soon, he could still make an appearance.
"The temptation to poke your belly is high!" For science of course, like everything else.
