The way both Dorian and Chaol are constantly thinking about each other, 24/7, worrying if the other person is okay during EoS and ToD makes me want to rip out my heart, split it in two, and give each of them a piece because...
MAKING TWO GUYS WHO HAVE A PLATONIC RELATIONSHIP STILL BE VERY OUTSPOKEN ABOUT THEIR LOVE AND AFFECTION FOR THE OTHER PERSON IS A RARITY WITHOUT THEM BEING CONSIDERED “WEAK MEN” AND I LOVE HOW NATURAL IT IS FOR THEM TO BE SO OPEN ABOUT IT TO EACH OTHER
I know some people ship them romantically, I personally don’t, but I do enjoy the memes 😌
Chaol <3
Started the Throne of Glass series (on part two of Heir of Fire) and Chaol is my favorite by far, still figuring out how to draw him though. Been avoiding spoilers like the plague but I hope things start looking up for him the whole thing with Celaena crushed me </3
Dorian and Chaol through the years!
Chaol trying to teach Dorian how to duel with Dorian trying to multitask with his book.
Their friendship is so cute and enduring, so I hope they get to see each other regularly after the war. Chaol can bring Yrene and their kid along, and Dorian can bring Manon and Abaxos. There are so many novellas for Throne of Glass that need to be done.
i am lowkey scared to post this but whatever
as someone with a disability, i think i saw myself so much in chaol. i loved him and his story and his growth. and just the overall hope that it gave me. so seeing people literally tear him apart for not being the nicest or being a dick because he was working through his emotions and hurt and inner turmoil (as well as literally trying to walk again), it really hurts me because at the end of the day.. he’s just human. he’s not magical, he can’t heal himself like fae, he is mortal. and so am i. i can’t fix my problems and it would definitely hurt to see others with that amazing ability while knowing you will never be capable of that power. and then, him feeling almost helpless, i feel that on a daily basis. so yeah, im not nice all the time, i snap at people, i lash out because i feel vulnerable or “abnormal”.
this is pretty personal but i think it needs to be said.
A lot of fans like to give Chaol heat for blaming Aelin for everything in QOS, but I reread that conversation enough times to know that Aelin started that shit. Now, her feelings are completely valid, I get it, I too would be devastated beyond repair, but you have to understand that Chaol too was devastated! Of all the things these two would do when they reunited, fighting over Dorian was not on the Bingo card.
Aelin popped in with "Where's Dorian?" And when Chaol answered that question....the accusations came pouring in. She started screaming like "You left him! You left him with that man. I would never have left him!" A really shitty thing to say Aelin, Chaol barely got out alive.
Then Chaol is still trying to salvage the situation.
Chaol: Well, that's why you're here now, so we can go save Dorian.
Aelin: There is no saving Dorian.
Chaol: What do you mean by that?
Aelin: You've destroyed him Chaol. By leaving him with that man there's going to be nothing left. Dorian is gone Chaol. He's dead! Dorian is dead because of you!
(I don't care how levelheaded or calm you are as a person, if you hear someone tell you that you've killed your best friend, you're going to lose it. And that's what Chaol did.)
Cause if you read Heir of Fire, you see Chaol defending Aelin with his life. 🥺 Even when she's not there, which is the most important. He's feeding hope into as many people as he can. He's reassuring everyone that Aelin will come back with change. Aelin comes back with a boyfriend and no plan in sight. 😂 And she's telling him his best friend, his hope for the future, low-key the greatest love he's ever had in his entire life, is dead because of him. Of course he snaps.
The fact of the matter is that Sjm could’ve ended Chaolena in a perfectly amicable way. Rather than the Nehemia shit and the delightful bit of intimate partner violence from Celaena, we could’ve had Chaol see Celaena butchering people and realize he could never be with someone who didn’t value life like him; bc no matter how much he killed or how bad the person was, he’d never be desensitized to that sort of thing; not like Celaena was. And we could’ve had them depart as friends without the false promises of Celaena always choosing him and a story where there’s no vilification of a past lover. But SJM loves bringing down one love interest to pull up another. Maybe they’re just not RIGHT for each other and it has nothing to do with how good of people they are.
chaol: i think i might have some
mild trauma
yrene: you THINK???
nesryn: MIGHT have???
dorian: MILD trauma???
Dorian: You know, Manon gives Elide flowers everyday, I wish you'd do that too.
Chaol: Okay.
Later
Chaol: gives Elide flowers
Elide: ???
Chaol: I don't know, I'm confused as well.
I lose ten years off my life every time I see someone compare Tamlin and Chaol. Like one is a twenty year old guy who made some mistakes, said some rude things, but then risked everything including his life and his entire belief system to make that right and do better for his people and his kingdom. The other is a FIVE HUNDRED year old all powerful being who emotionally and physically abused his NINETEEN year old girlfriend and then completely abandoned all responsibilities to be sad about it. They are NOT the same😭
Chaol: Did you guys know there’s a knife that gets so hot that it instantly turns your bread into toast when you cut it?
Celaena: Dude, imagine stabbing someone with that.
Dorian: Well if it was that hot it would instantly cauterize the wound, so it wouldn’t be very effective.
Celaena: It’s effective if you want information.
Chaol: …why would you be stabbing someone when you could have toast?
The fandom has got it all wrong! They say Dorian is the cinnamon roll but naaa. From book 1 he’s been saying he’d gladly kill Chaol’s father if Chaol let him and he kept saying he should’ve been the one to kill Cain. Whereas while Chaol didn’t regret saving Celaena’s life, it took a long time for him to come around to the idea of killing. And even in Tower of Dawn he admires the fact that Yrene saves lives not ends them. Whereas Dorian used killing Manon’s grandmother as a pickup line twice. And when he thought Chaol was dead he was ripped out of Valg possession and killed his father. Chaol was supposed to be the one protecting Dorian (as witness by the fact that he constantly tried to keep Dorian away from Celaena) but it turned out Dorian had his super powerful magic and ended up trying to protect Chaol the whole series. Chaol is the cinnamon roll and Dorian is the SINamon roll determined to protect his cinnamon roll at all costs.
“Chaol accepted Dorians magic but not Aelins”
…no he didn’t? Did we read the same books? Chaol didn’t talk to Dorian for almost the entirety of Heir of Fire because he didn’t know how to feel about Dorian having magic. Chaol says to Dorian that he wishes things where different and Dorian didn’t have magic in the first place. Chaol was not instantly in favor of Dorians magic and opposed to Aelins. And he comes to accept both of them having magic, but of course hes going to accept his lifelong friend who helped him escape his abusive household sooner them hes going to accept his ex-lover who tried to kill him and who hes seen enjoy taking a life.
Its really not that hard to grasp y’all just like looking for any reason to bash Chaol.
Throne of Glass gets my Mermay treatment!
Abraxos is the seahorse (with little wyvern wings) and I gave Lysandra a leopard (bush) fish to nod to her shapeshifting fave form of a leopard.
I can't with this it's to fucking funny. Especially Aedion an Lysandra or feysands Yeah hahah. Ofc Aelin an Rowan are jus double bastards 😂
Celeana: Chaol, heads or tails
Chaol: Tails
Celeana -slamming her sack down on the table and grinning-: WRONG
