Ruby winced as alcohol was dabbed over the cut on her bowline. The ball of cotton wool was pulled away from her face and replaced with a band-aid. She pulled away from the touch; it was gentle, loving, but any touch stung the open cut on her forehead.

“Stop being a baby,” Anna smiled at her, firmly pressing the band-aid on Ruby’s wound.

“’m not being a baby,” Ruby replied with a pout, but even as she said it she was pulling away from Anna’s touch. It wasn’t her fault the damn thing hurt. “It hurts." She gave Anna the best puppy dog eyes she could, hoping her girlfriend would feel sorry for her. It seemed to work, as Anna pressed a caring kiss on the band-aid before kissing her gently on the lips.

"Maybe you shouldn’t go round starting fights then,” Anna laughed.

“That guy was insulting you, how could I not punch him!” Ruby argued. 

There was blood still sticky on her knuckles. She couldn’t remember if it was from his nose or his lips or somewhere else. All she could remember before Anna had pulled her away was that the guy looked like Jared Leto in Fight Club. Beautiful and broken all at once. It was nothing he didn’t deserve, not for attacking Anna.

“I appreciate it, babe,” Anna said. She gingerly caressed Ruby’s flushed cheeks. “But please don’t go get yourself hurt for me. I hate seeing you like this.”

She pressed another kiss to Ruby’s lips, mumbled words of I love you getting lost against Ruby’s soft skin. All thoughts of anything but the two of them were lost. Ruby smiled into the kiss.

I love you too.

Despite Ruby’s rough around the edges personality, Anna is actually the one to put her foot down more often. gets jealous the most: Ruby. She’s kinda insecure sometimes. one headcanon I have: Ruby was way more apprehensive about their relationship at first. Anna is a free spirit and she does what she wants, but Ruby was worried that might mean she was just a fling to Anna.
