I just began taking therapy and Idk if it'll help cuz I can't really get everything out, I'm trying my best to be happy but I don't remember how that feels. My smile is on the surface but on the inside I'm still broken, idk if I'll be happy again 44

 Sorry for the late response.

 The thing with therapy is this: it takes time, and you have to be honest. If you feel like you can’t get everything out, write down what the general problems are and give it to your therapist. That way, you can tackle the “big picture” stuff first.

  Have you talked to a doctor about getting medication? It sounds to me like that could be very helpful.

  You will be happy again. We at Choose Recovery don’t often give personal anecdotes, but I feel like this is appropriate.

  A few years ago, I was absolutely convinced I would never be happy again. Ever. I thought that the rest of my life would be me being miserable. Now, I know that’s not true. I am happy. Even now, while I’m having a depressive episode, I know that things will get better, because they always do. I promise you, if you try as hard as you can and give it some time, you will feel better.

I answered a question on ChooseHelp about tapering off opiates. I suggested the person go slowly but also advised that they may find it too difficult to stick to a taper so they may need rehab. I find a lot of addicts early in recovery believe that it is just physical and they can stop taking opiates if they taper but it is rarely true. Once the psychological addiction takes over, your mind tends to tell you that you need more and that withdrawal is too much to handle. What do you think about tapering?
