What about Wednesday??

What about the girl who filled a BOOK of forms to see him—so many that it surprised the people whose literal job is to work with those forms

What about the girl who applied for approval to visit him WEEKS before she even came back to Nevermore.

What about the girl who—since she had 2 sane options: let Tyler die or let another person be his master and risk the new master getting jealous of Wednesday like Alfie's master got of Capri—decided that no she'll just have to go with the 3rd option (the insane one) and be his master instead.

What about the girl who was ready to bind herself to him for life in a church by becoming his master.

What about the girl who kept bringing him up for no reason in conversations he didn't need to be brought up in.

(Yeah, I think his case handler knows his criminal history, sweetheart)

What about the girl whose very first plan of attack was to tell Tyler she was attracted to him to get him to listen to her (Enid and nightshades were a last minute addition, she initially planned to face him alone)

What about the girl who said she was trying to find Tyler to save Enid but, in reality, was so desperate to find him that she ended up using Enid as bait for him.

What about the girl who Weems had to repeatedly tell to focus on saving Enid and fixing her relationship with her mother but she instead kept trying to find the Galpins

What about the girl who said she wanted her vision back to save Enid and went to Rosaline Rotwood for it... only to ask her for the Galpins' location instead.

What about the girl who went to save Tyler before her own brother, even though Pugsley would've died if he remained in the machine for too long but Tyler was only going to lose his powers at worst AND going to Pugsley first would've saved both but no, she had to go to Tyler first.

And what about the girl who insulted her own weaponry skills by saying "I missed" just because she couldn't stop herself from going soft at the sight of him in pain.

What about her?

So yeah, even though Tyler's obsessed with her, let's not ignore that Wednesday's worse. She just lies about it more.

if you think for even just a second how fucking crazy bonkers it is that women are so frequently kept from being protagonists or important or fully realized characters when its like. That is literally 50% of the world population. Half of all people (more or less. hopefully more as time marches on!) are women. And you look at media and think about how many protagonists are men and their best friends are men and the ensemble cast is 80-100% men and the fandoms are about men and the romances are about men. well. YOU GO INSANE

Reading Wenclair complaints that Tyler is not even important to the story as if he isn’t the catalyst for half the plot and is literally the most literal embodiment of the shows exploration of bigotry and discrimination within the outcast world as well as a showcase of the importance of family and acceptance aka the whole Addams Family shtick.

And not to be that guy, but how can we argue Tyler isn’t important when he literally has more narrative purpose than Enid (love her but it’s true)

(Also I’m 90% sure Enid’s whole alpha plot and cheating plot came from that side of the fandoms total rejection of Tyler cuz the writers want to underline their hypocrisy. I hope alpha Enid kills innocent people and hurts Wednesday cuz I know they’ll completely defend her cuz no matter what Enid does she’s so different and innocent and special [they also defend Wednesday all the time too, like morals only exist with Tyler I guess])

These people also are so angry cuz Tyler apparently stole Capri from Wenclair? Like Capri is a cool character but out of everyone she is so irrelevant to the plot. And Tyler ruins the whole “girl power” thing.

Like………. How many times do we have to have the conversation that a woman involving herself with a man isn’t inherently bad or anti feminist? Especially Wednesday Addams. Like the whole subversion of the Addams family is being wacky but love still exists. THERE CAN BE GIRL POWER WITH A MAN PRESENT.

If you remove Tyler entirely from the show it falls apart, he's just as important as Wednesday.

Without Tyler, you have:

A normie teacher out in the woods herself trying (and failing) to attack random people she finds with a syringe full of poison. She's carrying an axe to hack off body parts and she's just been arrested by Sherrif Galpin because her 5'2 inch frame in bright red boots was too slow at getting away from the murder scene, Elvis the dog sniffed her out so fast 😂 season 1 ends quite uneventfully.

Season 2 and they all return to school and their new principle, Dort is trying to con the Addams family from their money. Enid is never in any danger because Tyler doesn't exist, so no need for Wednesday to visit any tomb or track down any Hydes in Jericho because they dont exist.

Also no Capri to help Enid with her being an alpha, because Isadora Capri is at home with her Hydes, she has no reason at all to visit Jericho or Nevermore, as there's no Hydes there. Enid still becomes a werewolf full time because nobody was there to instruct her on how to stay calm, but likely Wednesday won't be able to help her, because no Hydes to help bring Alpha!Enid down.

Isadora Capri only came to Nevermore because she wanted Tyler. The second she can get him, she leaves with him, because her whole being there is to get Tyler and bring him to his own kind. She was not at the school to teach, that was her cover story. It just happened she met Enid while waiting for her opportunity to get Tyler and helped her as best as she could, while keeping a certain Hyde in her sights.

Tyler is vital to the plot

Not to mention also

Tyler is the main male character.

He is the son of a very old outcast family, even if he has grown up away from them. The Knight family even had their own crest.

He is clearly going to be the bridge that reconnects Hydes back to the wider outcast society.

He's the only person who connects with Wednesday on her level. He is the only person Wednesday decided to save even after everything that has happened between them.

He is always first on Wednesday's thoughts at the end of both seasons.

Petty moment on main rn, but in gonna say it:

I am never going to indulge anyone who claims to be equal opportunity and then opens their case with "yall are shipping X wrong"

Especially not when OP is stating something that has been debunked as not canon for over a year now.

That being said, i have seen a ton of charlastor content over the last few years. Some of it is wholesome, some of it is DD:DNE and it's just as delicious. There is no "wrong" way to ship charlastor and I'm just annoyed by the very concept. Especially when someone's "solution" is so laid out it feels like they're more saying "I want content for this dynamic and I want yall to be the ones to make it instead of me or people who ship any of the other ships I mentioned in this"

You know what the only "wrong" way to ship charlastor is? When you condescend to other people on how they ship it. Or you don't tag properly so others can avoid their squicks. Thats it.

Anyways, working on something new charlastor related that should be out at... some point. Hope yall can be excited for it!

the dichotomy of spy x family is really interesting because it's mostly fun slice-of-life shenanigans and then every 3 arcs it reminds you that most of these characters are always fight-or-flight due to having survivor's guilt

Loid Forger is up to his eyeballs in PTSD and masking the hell out of it, gets stress ulcers, and is playing 5 dimensional chess with every interaction, figuring out and counteracting both people's individual and collective motivations and weaknesses. But he's also like "ough how do i maintain a healthy and respectful fake relationship with my beautiful stacked superhuman goddess wife who misses 40% of all social cues and wears backless sweater dresses all the time. This is really tough." The character of all time.

twilight, the highly professional, emotionless spy who talks about his real mother to his fake wife to reassure her and make her feel less insecure, who hesitated to shoot his fake wife’s brother and later spared his life because he knows it would devastate her, who worries constantly about his fake wife’s emotional well being, who falls to his knees the second he steps into his fake home because his fake wife greets him with so much affection that all his stress from his previous mission just leaves his body, who is constantly on edge but relaxes at the sight of his sleeping family.

The day people finally understand that all the ultra-creepy and suspicious stuff the Addams family gleefully talk about is NEVER a joke... The anti-Wyler crowd who try to claim otherwise just proves they have no real understanding of the Addams Family. I mean, everyone talks about how Morticia and Gomez are such a healthy couple... Yes. But, for example, in the movies, Morticia fell in love with Gomez because he was suspected of murdering the guy whose funeral she was at... Literally, the Addams don't care about killing or hurting people. For them pain and death are funny. People think that because they're loving towards each other, it means all the ultra-morally questionable things they claim to have done are false. But that's the irony. It's not false. At all.

They have genuine, macabre urges that they indulge. They kill animals or people, burying them alive. Sometimes they kill family members (usually accidentally, as suggested for Gomez's mother in the films, or the old uncle in their closet). They cause disasters for fun that risk killing people, etc. They accidentally kill people without meaning to (the poor girl cooked in Fester's bachelor party cake...).

The Addams Family is simply an exaggerated critique of American society. The Addamses live completely outside the law and norms on every level, but are portrayed as loving and kind to one another and to those genuinely willing to see them as friends, because they are not hypocritical or deceitful.

Whereas the typical American family is seen as bad, because it is hypocritical, deceitful, dysfunctional, and lacks cohesion, etc. Yet, for the most part, they are characters who do not break the law.

Even when the Addams Family encounters vicious people, the problem isn't their dark nature, but the fact that they went to great lengths to harm them until the end. Which obviously forces them to defend themselves. Because in reality, they still admire these people's sadistic personalities and even feel sorry for them at times.

Tyler is not a problem for the Addams. Really. He is not even abusive like the anti love claim. In fact, he is the victime of abuse in reality!

Morticia, despite her concern for Wednesday's confrontation with Tyler, clearly agrees that it must have been cool to have a brush with death at the hands of a Hyde, as her son Pugsley believes. Pugsley himself doesn't seem afraid of Tyler. Tyler is no longer pursuing Wednesday, and it's highly likely he'll be granted redemption in the future. There's no canonical reason why the Addams Family shouldn't give him a chance.

The Addams family literally is good people doing bad things because they’re so uninfluenced by society vs. normal people who are bad people only doing “good” to be deemed good by society.

Taking into account the Addams family is so strange that all the modes of murder only inconvenience them, they probably assume it does the same to others.

Literally the conflict in the Addams Family is misunderstandings and judgement.

fandom about some mf (is a man): you might dislike this character but you have to admit he's very interesting. even if you don't like him, he's a very well-written character. he's very complex. so even if you dislike him you should maybe reconsider that. because he's complex and interesting. and i think deep down he cares so much. there's a lot to analyze about his decisions, which he was force to make due to the terrible position he was put in. and if you don't like him you don't really understand the show tbh.

same fandom about a woman who has done comparable or much tamer things, with a much smaller fraction of fans: this may be a hot take but no one else has said this and i have to get this off my chest. some of you might like her but she is a TERRIBLE PERSON! she didn't have to do any of those things she did. she put herself into a bad situation, inconveniencing everyone around her and showing no remorse for it whatsoever. you may like her but i just don't get it!! if you like her or defend any of her actions, you are probably a real life abuser and hate women. so even if you do like her, maybe think about that. you can like her but you have to admit her flaws. otherwise you are encouraging women in real life to murder others and commit crimes, which is ignorant and wrong. her sympathetic scenes are not even canon because they're so manipulative, performative, and trite. such a waste of screen time very obviously trying to get us to feel bad for a MONSTER! she clearly didn't actually mean any of the good things she's done. deep down she is just a rotten human being with no motive but to make other people's lives miserable. i'm sorry but that's the truth.

If you don’t understand why it is important for Maomao and Jinshi to end up together, then you don’t fully understand Maomao’s character. Maomao’s character arc is built in such a way that accepting a relationship with Jinshi is a necessity for it to work.

It takes so long for them to be together because a main character’s arc resolution has to happen at the end of the story (which Natsu originally intended to be volume 12).

Maomao starts the story believing in the anti-theme, essentially the opposite of the main theme:

“To be loved, even just for a little while—that’s a wonderful thing. You almost… start to think it means there’s a place you belong.”

This is what Maomao ultimately needs to understand. Because of her ghost (an often traumatic event that gives a character their main flaw or incorrect worldview, in her case, not receiving love as a baby), Maomao grows up overly reliant on logic and repressing her emotions. This emotional repression is the anti-theme.

A few examples:

She can’t admit to Jinshi that she wants to help Xiaolan because Xiaolan is her friend.

She refers to Luomen as her mentor rather than her father figure in front of Jinshi.

This flaw creates her want, which we see in her goal: to maintain her life exactly as it is. At the beginning of the story, she has no plans to make friends, find a partner, or form new relationships. She is comfortable with the relationships she has always had with her sister and her father because they don’t challenge her emotional repression. And this is why she runs away about any clue related to Jinshi’s real identity, because she doesn’t want their dynamic to change.

For this type of character, who has a maintenance goal rather than an active one, there need to be other forces or characters who drive the plot. That’s why the story begins with her being kidnapped, and why Jinshi takes more plot-changing actions than she does.

However, what a character wants is not necessarily what they need. Jinshi already believes in the theme, which is why his main goal is to be with Maomao. But while his goal is correct, the way he goes about it is flawed. Jinshi needs to learn to be less possessive, which ties into another theme of the story: autonomy.

Jinshi’s possessiveness is rooted in his own ghost, having the toys he loved as a child taken away from him. As a result, he clings too tightly to the things and people he cares about.

This is why Maomao and Jinshi complement each other. Throughout the story, Jinshi challenges Maomao to open up emotionally, while Maomao’s emotional repression forces Jinshi to unlearn his possessive behavior. In other words, if Maomao were like many other girls who are immediately smitten with Jinshi, he would never have learned to let go. And if Jinshi were not so possessive and stubborn in his pursuit of her, Maomao would never truly open up emotionally, something that Joka herself acknowledges.

„Maomao, you’re very fortunate. This person is clearly very persistent, extremely stubborn, doesn’t know when to quit—”

„Gee, he sounds like a real catch,” Pairin interjected, but Joka ignored her.

“—and is good enough that even you were willing to let him win.”

In volume 12, Maomao is willing to give up her want: to maintain her life the way it is, for her need: to be with Jinshi, even though he is still the Moon Prince and, as she strongly suspects and later confirms in volume 13, the Emperor’s son. In other words, choosing Jinshi means abandoning the emotional safety of maintaining her old, controlled life and accepting love, belonging, and the complications that come with them.

In volume 15, Jinshi is willing to give up his want: to be with Maomao, for his need: learning to let go by prioritizing Maomao’s autonomy over his own desire.

Maomao moves toward connection by surrendering control while Jinshi moves toward healthy love by surrendering control.

Even if Tyler were a completely normal guy, I’m gonna be honest I’d still ship him with Wednesday.

The appeal of Wednesday and Tyler isn’t about twists or secrets to me, it’s that Tyler is just some guy who somehow understands her better than almost anyone outside her family. When you compare him to people like Enid or Xavier, it’s clear he gets her on a different level. He doesn’t try to fix her, soften her, or push her to be more “normal.” He just lets her be Wednesday. And more importantly, he likes her that way.

Tyler never treats her like a project or a puzzle that needs solving. He doesn’t want her to change who she is or apologize for it. He enjoys how unapologetically herself she is, and that’s such an underrated kind of affection. There’s something really powerful about a romance where one character is just a total lover who appreciates the other person exactly as they are, no conditions attached.

The cute barista boy falling for the goth girl everyone else finds weird, intimidating, or off-putting is inherently romantic to me. He sees her, appreciates her, and chooses her anyway not in spite of who she is, but because of it.

Like I’m not kidding, this show could’ve been set in a completely normal setting without the supernatural elements, and I’d still be shipping the hell out of Wednesday and Tyler. Sorry, but sometimes cute, simple romances really do it for me too. I love both cute, simple romances and complex ones, and Wednesday and Tyler are the perfect mix of both.
