Veterans stand for Standing Rock
On December 4, hundreds of veterans plan to “deploy” to Standing Rock Indian Reservation in North Dakota to join in protest against the planned Dakota Access Pipeline.
The event, Veterans Stand for Standing Rock, is a call for veterans to “assemble as a peaceful, unarmed militia” to “defend the water protectors from assault and intimidation at the hands of the militarized police force and DAPL security.“
A beautiful example of solidarity and courage! These veterans who have known the horrors of war and the sufferings of minorities understand the stakes of these historical events that are happening in Standing Rock, events that are a worldwide symbol for the legitimate defense of peoples against the oppressor. #Love it!

Politics - Why I Voted Bernie
I know a lot of you are probably sick of seeing politics but politics are happening whether you like them or not. I’ll return to reblogging fandom stuff and memes after this post, but I just want to share this because I think all of us in the U.S. need to think really hard about what kind of change we want to see in the future, because change is coming no matter what.
This was an open letter I posted on Facebook, directed especially at anyone who thinks Bernie Sanders’ supporters are just ‘millennials, socialists, and people looking for a handout’:
I didn’t vote Bernie because I want a handout, I voted for him because I want a president who will stand up for basic human rights. A president who GIVES A SHIT ABOUT THIS COUNTRY AND THE PROBLEMS ITS PEOPLE HAVE, not just the problems of the big names and corporations. I want a president who thinks I’m a human being even if I don’t make millions. And yeah, I definitely like the fact that he ISN’T a racist, xenophobic scumbag with a poor business record who hides behind the idea of 'free speech’ when he wants to target people because they don’t meet his ideal of what makes America 'great’.
I want a president who believes in the value of humans as humans, not as dollar signs. I’m not a dumb kid with no understanding of economics; the bullshit idea that catering to 'the 1%’ benefits the other 99% of us is so outdated it might as well be in a museum. Bernie’s goals are lofty, but so were Roosevelt’s and so we’re Lincoln’s.
I want a president who fights for positive change. I want a president who respects and values ALL people, and doesn’t exclude them from basic human rights because of religion, race, sexuality, gender, occupation, place of origin, income, disability, etc.
So yeah, that’s why I voted Bernie. A handout has nothing to do with it.

Im never sick of politics
Southern Red Bird Presents
ONE WEEK FROM TODAY Rick Ott’s solo CD, Stickmen and other Childhood Trauma, will be released on November 28 to all digital outlets. Make Rick’s incredible music part of your Cyber Monday!
The Rick Ott Band is based out of Sopchoppy, Florida-Music Capital of Northwest Florida. You will always catch Rick Ott on guitar and vocals, and various veteran musicians driving the rhythm section when the Rick Ott Band performs. The band’s specialty is live concerts performing original music, but because of their love of music they can be found performing all genres of music in venues throughout the southeast. Rick’s solo performances highlight his songwriting craft and acoustic guitar playing style. He enjoys these performances because it takes less equipment and it is a lot easier to move. Rick’s sound is deeply rooted in blues, jazz, gospel, country and rock ‘n’ roll and represents the unique sounds generated by the giant melting pot called the South.

The Big D, My Friends, & the Music Scene
An open letter from Mick.
I know that I don’t come see you and hang out with you or, for my friends in the music community, watch you perform. I am sorry about that. It’s not that I don’t want to; because I do. I miss all of you.
It is true that I am a natural introvert but that is easily overcome when I am well. I am not well right now my friends. My depression is currently winning. When D is winning it drives my introversion through the roof. During these times I live my life inside the cocoon of my family and my house. I can still handle one or two people in a closed setting; must be why the studio is such a safe haven for me.
One of things I love to when I go out is see live music. Especially here in my adopted hometown of Tallahassee and in the hometown of my youth, Toledo, where so many of my friends are fellow musicians and lovers of live music. For my musician friends I really, really want to see you perform. It is always such a joy. I just can’t right now. This is also why I have no interest in performing outside the studio for the time being. One of my goals in getting on top of big D is to be able someday to perform again. In the meantime I work on my craft. Like Pablo Casals, I am making progress.
Do not fret or worry. I intend to get back to winning. During this roller coaster life D and I push each other back and forth. In recent years as D has won more I seek and get the help I need to get back on top of it.
When I do I will get back out there and see you. And we will have a good laugh just like always. In the meantime know that I miss you and do think of you.
55 Rose Street - Thunderbolt
55 Rose Street is the brainchild of bass player Mick Metz, who started this studio act in order to perform some good hot blooded blues! He joined forces with talented vocalist / guitarist Heather Gillis, as well as blues harpist Chris Balding and drummer Rick Brunetti. The combo set out to achieve a perfect blend of chemistry, echoing the emotionally intense of blues pioneers the likes of Muddy Waters or Howlin’ Wolf, but bringing in the sophistication of acclaimed performers the likes of Eric Clapton or Joe Bonamassa, just to mention a few.
On their latest release, Thunderbolt, This band is not re-inventing the wheel with their sound, but they sure know out to make it spin. This is good old fashioned blues that has all that it takes to make an audience scream. Great licks, understated solo work, emotional vocal performances and gritty production with an authentic human feel. Find out more:

Why I No Longer Perform Live
I am very frequently asked when or where can I see you perform? So I thought I’d answer that here. There are many reasons why but what it comes down to is I’m not interested in playing live. My studio work will do me just fine for now.
Please do not take this as a diatribe against playing live; there is nothing like the pure joy of performing to an audience. When you make a connection with an audience through your music it takes your soul to heights you can only achieve in this way.
Unfortunately getting to that experience is, at least for me, a challenge I can no longer take up. It simply is not worth the price, for now. Here is why.
I have said this to no one until now but my health is one of the issues. Oh, I’m not truly sick or injured. I have a arthritis in my lower back that makes a 3 hour show excruciating. And of course there is the depression. Yes, this is my coming out with that problem. The pure weight of this health problem can overwhelm everything in your life. Hell, it kills some people. Don’t worry I am holding my own right now.
Another reason is the pure grind of regular performing when you have to maintain a day job to pay the bills and you are raising a family. The last band I played with played the coastal club circuit so the gigs involved a bit of driving. I work Monday through Friday days; we’d do a gig in another town Friday night and I’d get home around 3 or 4 in the morning, do that again Saturday night and Sunday morning and be back to work 8 AM Monday morning. I had to face it; I’m getting too old for that shit.
And then there is the pay, or lack of it. Don’t get me wrong I’m not in it for the money or anything but for fuck’s sake what musicians make these days is criminal. You want me to practice endless hours, haul my gear to a club, set up, and play for 3 or 4 hours for $50. No. And this is not (necessarily) about the club owners. Folks won’t pay or complain about cover charges. Music is free or cheap these days with streaming services ripping off the musicians and songwriters so they can make more $ and provide it to mass audiences cheap. Folks come to expect free music live too. Unless you are Aerosmith or Buddy Guy you are not worth them paying. This definitely does not apply to everyone but it does apply to so many people that musicians get the shaft.
And finally the fact is I suck so why bother.
I have had the pleasure of playing sold out shows at one of the South’s best blues clubs, the beach clubs of the redneck rivera, to standing ovations by full houses at the Florida Folk Festival, and many more great experiences. I am happy where I am. I’m sure I’ll play live again someday; maybe.
I send healing energy, and prayers of protection surround you and your family. I can confirm the mortgage co doesnt accept "exposure" when the bill is due
The latest single from 55 Rose Street is coming! The new single is ‘The Blues Is What I Live With’ and includes a guitar track from Nashville guitarist Pat Buchanan. Pat has recorded and toured with many well known artists. This track also features our extraordinary 55 Rose Street team with rising star Heather Gillis laying down a crazy good vocal track and guitar, Chris Balding on blues harp, and Rick Brunetti on drums. If you are not familiar with Rick Brunetti he has been recording professionally since his chart topping days with Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods. It is always a thrill to see his gold records and his framed billboard chart from their #1 hit 'Billy Don’t Be a Hero’ when we rehearse at Rick’s place. Rick is an amazing drummer and a great friend. If you haven’t yet downloaded the single 'Empty World’ why not now? This single is only available for free to subscribers. Get it at Southern Red Bird. 55 Rose Street is blues studio project produced by Mick Metz (bass guitar) and features rising star Heather Gillis on guitar and vocals, one of the best front men in the south; Chris Balding on vocals and blues harp, and gold record artist Rick Brunetti on drums. All tracks recorded at From The Heart recording studio and sound engineered by Rick Ott.
Everyone who would (because you are not a US citizen for example) or will vote for Bernie Sanders, reblog this post. I want to see how many of us are on tumblr, and more importantly, I wanna regain faith in humanity.
