Mystery concept for a monster that is a protector towards children, but is too extreme in its methods. It would never hurt the child, but woe to any adult it thinks is a threat, and it's seeing protective adults as a danger through misunderstanding

Concept: Multiple injuries have been reported around an orphanage in (insert town/city here), leading to an investigation on the orphanage. The cause? An invisible monster has been stalking potential parents that come by, attacking them when they leave after meeting the children.

Threats

Monster: Protective Beast

Type: Beast (motivation: to run wild, destroying and killing)

Description: A beast that’s invisible to a normal person. To those that are magically touched, have a 6th sense, and/or those with a really good imagination can see what it is. The beast is massive like a bear, has moose antlers on it’s head, rat nose and whiskers, blunt teeth with a bucktooth, back spines, razor-sharp claws, and a long reptilian tail. It’s entire body is covered in really soft fur. The creature is able to curl up into a ball and charge into anyone, sticking them with its back spines as it does.

The creature was created by the combined imagination of the children of the orphanage, believing the creature to be their protector from all the “evil adults”.

Powers:

Invisibility

Blink teleport

Attacks:

Claws (1 harm hand)

Tail whip (2 harm close knock down)

Ball Ram (2 harm close knock down)

Horn gore (3 harm close)

Weakness: Having the children no longer believe the creature is real, and/or letting the children know that the adults that visit them have no intention of harming them.

Harm: 20

Mystery concept for a monster that turns into cutesy characters in order to lure in children for consumption

Sorry I haven’t had the energy to create concepts, so instead I made a monster instead.

Monster: Cuddles

Type: Devourer (motivation: to eat humans)

Description: a formless, featureless blob. It’s able to transform into cutesy characters to lure in its prey.

Powers:

Transformation: Cuddles can change its shape and add features to appear “cute” to whoever may see it.

Acidic body: Its body is comprised of digestive acids, making it so that anything coming into contact with its body with start to melt

Sticky body: Its body is super sticky, and will stick to any organic matter it comes across.

Growth: the more it feeds, the bigger it gets.

Attacks:

Acid shoot (1 harm close acid)

Engulf (1 harm intimate acid)

Weakness: something that neutralizes stomach acid

Custom move:

Engulf: Cuddles can engulf any living creature that is its size or smaller. Hunters engulfed must succeed a Act Under Pressure or Kick Some Ass Roll in order to free themselves. On a 7-9, they deal half the harm their weapon would deal to Cuddles. On a miss, the hunter continues to take damage. Should they die while engulfed, their body is instantly digested.

Concept

People have been waking up with missing teeth and quarters under their pillows. No one pays it too much mind at first, until people wake up with other bones, like fingers, missing.

Hive Mother

Monster Type: Collector

Motivation (steal specific sorts of things)

Often mistaken for the tooth fairy herself, the queen is the hive mother of the true tooth fairies. She dwells in here lair gathering the teeth her fairies gather which she uses as a carapace to protect her true form.

Harm capacity: 14

Abilities

Bone armour- +1 armour

Flight: This ability is only accessible when the armour is broken or removed

Spawn: She can summon 1 tooth fairy at a time when she feels threatened

Attacks

Bite 3 harm intimate

Claws 2 harm hand

Weakness: Once the armour is broken the hive mother takes damage as normal

Harm capacity 7

Tooth Fairies

Minion type: Thief

Motivation (to steal and deliver to the monster)

A small unseen horde of creatures. They travel around the world and take bones (teeth) left for them by the children around the world. In return for these gifts the leave something of value, (it changes every few millenia) usually a quarter.

They bring the bones to their nest, where they assemble them into a shell for their queen.

Abilities: Flight

Attacks

Bite 1 harm intimate

Swarm 2 harm hand restraining

Harm capacity

The Flesh

Concept

A massive mound of flesh, bone, sinue. It haunts the location looking for additions to its collection.

Type: collector (to steal specific kinds of things)

Harm capacity Core 7 Flesh 7

Abilities Shape shift The monster’s many limbs can mold and bend in different directions and shift on the body itself; it separates if it feels threatened enough. Separate The monster splits its body into smaller pieces, but there is always one main body. This move reveals its core. (its harm capacity auto drops to 7 when this move is used. Any harm its taken in nullified) Assimilate It takes pieces of any creature it dismembers and adds it to its mass. It heals 1 harm

Attacks Bear claws 2 harm hand Wolf teeth 3 harm intimate Dismember 4 harm intimate intimate messy

Minions Type: brute (motivation: to intimidate and attack)

Only detached when the monster is threatened and backed into a corner

Harm capacity 3

Weakness The monster will keep collecting flesh and parts, the core of the monster can’t be killed until its extra pieces are all removed and the core itself can be killed.

More terrible monsters of the week:

A witch who tries to teleport money from a bank vault, but she can’t control where it goes. It ends up in the heroes’ base.

Pretty much any mythological character but with Velma’s “I can’t see without my glasses” routine.

The tooth fairy falls behind on her quota and begins stealing children’s teeth before they fall out.

A sphinx who asks people to describe Rorschach ink blots, and insists there’s no wrong answer.

A sphinx who demands that you figure out how she did a card trick or she eats you.

Another sphinx who hates eating people, so no matter how many times you guess wrong she’ll give you a hint and let you try again.

Yeah ok there’s a whole cabal of terrible sphinxes.

A bunch of possessed kitchen appliances, but they can’t attack anyone outside the range of their power cords.

Ghost prank callers.

The video from The Ring, except the creepy voice is all talk and nothing happens at the end of the 7 days.

A monster who genuinely believes that its magic is healing people instead of hurting them, but doesn’t speak English. The heroes need to find a translator so they can explain the problem.

This reminds me of one of my favorite conservation stories!!

When they were trying to bring Puffins back to islands on the US east coast they decided to do so with dummies. Puffins are very social, and as a result would want to land on islands that already have puffins. The dummies looked real from a distance, but were seriously lacking up close, held up by a single peg. Puffins, being social and wanting to fit in, followed suit:
