I cannot fathom pet parents who just dgaf about their dog’s comfort for all they say they care about their dog. Why would you get a dog with a high maintenance coat—a doodle, a pomski, a wooly husky/malamute, a husky/malamute in general, etc.— only to let their coat get so bad their skin can’t breathe. Your dog is walking around with a cast of fur.

“Oh he doesn’t like being brushed.” Well no shit he doesn’t like being brushed NOW!! When friction against his fur causes pain from how tightly compacted / matted it is! And regardless it’s your place as the owner of a dog with a high-maintenance coat to teach your dog to like or even tolerate brushing. Regardless of your dog’s feelings it has to be routine care for their longterm comfort.

“Oh I don’t want to put him through grooming [to save the coat / for the dog’s comfort], it would be too painful / too much for him!” Huh, if only you had kept up with your dog’s care. Really funny how if you wave off small routine care it accumulates into a huge problem. All the dog groomers and bathers in the world right now want to strangle you. Putting aside how you did this to yourself (and your dog), now is the second best time to get your dog groomed so they can feel their best again. Some groomers offer smaller, multiple sessions for severe cases where it would benefit the dog to only do parts at a time. There are OPTIONS.

“Okay but don’t shave him.” YOU DON’TTT GET A SAY WHEN YOUR DOG IS LIVING IN A CAST OF ITS OWN FURRR.

I get money being a barrier if one truly cannot afford it / it would be irresponsible to do so at the time. I get being embarrassed / ashamed and afraid to bring your dog in in bad condition. But it has Gotttttt to be done. Your dog will feel so so so much better for it.
