I think this ship (spaceship) is really funny
and out of the darkness - you you you you you
sacrificial lamb and a scapegoat
have some shitty chaotic pride flags ^^
check out the rest of the flags on my profile since tumblr has a 10 image limit lol as well as the fixed versions of a few of these cuz I’m big dumb
it's that time again, kids
i like when eridians describe grace in other-worldly, incorporeal, eldritch ways. that he's beautiful and terrifying at the same time. a horror you can't look away from because you don't want to miss a thing.
you can never get a clear listen to him. his primary sense node is covered in "hair" and the part that isn't is hidden by two crystals that refract sound waves in a pleasing but disorienting way. he covers his body in billowy cloth at all times. not snug and sensible and unobstructive like eridian coverings, but loose and layered, draped and flowing.
the most clear part of him are his internal organs. because yes, the alien's carapace isn't sound-proof. his single heart beats insistingly in his core, his lungs exchanging gas constantly, his long digestive tract always bubbling and contracting. his thorax is packed impossibly tight and it's all moving and singing.
and it shouldn't be possible, with how fragile he is, for that internal pressure to maintain. how does the thin membrane of his external organ (another horror that sends eridians reeling) keep it all contained? his "skin" is so easily pierced, cut, bruised, burnt, how does he not split open under his own mass?
when savior rocky first arrived home and described the environmental needs of his alien, the scientists thought he'd made a mistake in his frantic panic to get everything out. it isn't possible this being lives at such low atmospheric pressure, at half the gravity, and in a gas that's nearly double the weight of ammonia. in a gas so dangerous, so caustic. and if it does then how is it obligately terrestrial like rocky claims? shouldn't it fly or float instead? (and then to see it in the water, learning that it can float or sink at will.)
and this alien has come bearing gifts that will not only save your species but launch it into impossible heights of technological and intellectual advancement. he has discovered the solution to astrophage and bred it to thrive on threeworld and translated his instructions into eridian. he has given your people the complete sum of his people's knowledge, advanced in ways the eridians can't believe and behind in ways that seem ludicrous. and he has given his life for your people to have these things.
he knows how your solar system was formed. he knows how the universe started.
his name means beautiful and generous and relieving.
the eridians experiencing cosmic bliss.
be not afraid.
you don't even have a dog
so i watched the movie

they were just trying to help, simon this is my propaganda for feral simon. just woke up from what he thought was certain death, marked and marred by the thing that consumed him, has no understanding of what's going on... imprisoned by an alien species and deeply paranoid, desperate to regain some control over the world around him. i also believe grace is allowed to be scary. the human who gave up humanity in favor of an alien race. fiercely protective of eridians and the space he carved out with them. deeply selfish and willing to do many things to protect what he has, the bravest of cowards, even if the guilt of his actions will weigh on him later.
So,, bloodymary, huh?
I’m gonna be honest I don’t even ship bloodymary romantically I see them as like. Two stray dogs who hunt together and cuddle up at night. QPR vibes. Grace is so aroace to me and Simon is so traumatized and cult brained that I don’t even know if a romantic relationship would occur to them. I think they cuddle and are life partners in the ways that matter and have so much intimacy emotionally and physically (like brushing each others hair, washing each others backs, tending to wounds, etc.) but I can’t imagine them being sexually attracted to each other. Just a beautiful QPR that they’d call friendship bc they don’t know what else it would be
mini WORK IN PROGRESS! The thesis project prevents me from finishing anything big but these two are living in my head rent free at the moment so i had to make something
go forth my bloodmary
Another reason why I like putting the Iron Lung and PHM movies together is because it shows what lack of cooperation communication and resource scarcity can do to a civilization.
In PHM you have Stratt telling Grace that they’ll lose a quarter of the world’s population in 30 years and that’s ONLY if the nations of the world ration food. “Which they won’t.” And she shrugs. So double the estimate on how many people will be lost.
Because we know she’s right.
In the Iron Lung movie you don’t even need to go into much to know that something went terribly wrong.
One of the things that had me nervous watching PHM was seeing just how much damage astrophage can bring in terms of fire power. It can melt hunks of metal. A tiny bit of it can blow up a science building. It can fuel interstellar space travel.
To draw a line from PHM to Iron Lung in a road map, you will mark out a point where some unsavory humans in PHM hoarded some astrophage and developed weapons. They develop it for energy too it’s not all bad. (Think nuclear stuff). Maybe astrophage leads to us being able to get to Mars quicker who knows.
The Tau amoeba only needed to help them clear the sun up. But astrophage can still stick around.
Another point on that road map is where things start to go very wrong on earth, wrong on mars, the astrophage has mutated and evolved, who knows.
Now there’s resource scarcity. You can’t build an adequate rover to explore this blood ocean because metal and resources are at a premium.
I can also imagine, if say 300 years are between the movies let’s estimate, knowledge will get lost. With little human life, a way of life destroyed, all this stuff then knowledge on things will also fade. Maybe knowledge on how to beat back astrophage. Maybe knowledge on how to build things. Maybe knowledge on chemistry and molecular biology to help keep plants going. Who knows.
We developed religion as humanity over the millennia to answer questions we couldn’t understand the answers to. It used to be for things like weather and astrological events and natural disasters and death.
And now in a world where there’s only darkness and suffering and scarcity I can see religion overtaking some aspect of humanity again.
Almost like we are back in the dark ages.
And due to lack of resources, the technology that Simon works with is very basic. We saw the computers through the window we know they have some tech and can process it all but technology stagnated and someone regressed by this point.
It’s a far cry from an interstellar space ship with robots and stuff.
So yeah. I like thinking about these movies being in the same universe.
isolation vacation in the space station
A mini PHM comic about Grace growing old. I wanted to explore two ideas: Rocky dealing with Grace’s dementia and Grace wanting to donate his body to science. I spend so much time on figuring out the dialogue (some part still feel clunky to me) but I hope it express my thoughts on where I think Grace’s life would go :)
