Hello There! New Tumblr!

Please reblog and/or like if you post musical related stuff! Or just share this with others so they can see it. All the people I do know has left the site or hasn’t posted anything in 2-3 years. 

The Phantom of the Opera and Hadestown will be the main focus of this tumblr, but other shows will come up.

The older you get the more you realise that actually Carlotta was well within her rights to call out management on the poor health and safety and lack of consideration and attention to workers well-being in the opera house and everyone should have joined her protest, refused to work, halting all productions, forcing them to refund the full house, and believe me the mangers would have had the Phantom hunted down and exorcised by dinner time

When Phantom is portrayed as a “love story” I always feel like it’s a completely inadequate, misleading statement. The final kiss is not about Christine’s romantic love for the Phantom; he has broken away from the human race and adopted the role of a ghost, or a monster, and her light and warmth and compassion remind him of the burden of humanity. The kiss makes him accept responsibility for the horrific things that he has done; it makes him accept that he is a member of the human race. There is love, of course, but the Phantom does not love Christine until she forces him to acknowledge his humanity- and in forcing him to acknowledge that, she holds him accountable for his actions. He is no longer the troublesome ghost or deformed monster; he is a man who has done terrible things that he will never be able to reverse, but despite it all, Christine finds the strength and compassion to extend an act of kindness to him- to give him something that he was denied his entire life; love in any form. I believe that Christine cares for him, and wants him to be saved from the monster that he has turned himself into to protect himself. I do not believe that she loves him romantically; I simply think that she recognizes what needs to be done for him to accept his role as a person. He had to experience warmth and love and compassion to be saved, not necessarily of a romantic nature, but- as the lyrics state for us- something to show him that he is not alone.

My opinion is not the only opinion, of course, but that’s how I view the final kiss.

my pupil is in love with this raoul de chagny son of a bitch. hes like 21 years old. and its a joke when she kids to me about it but its not a joke. im 6 feet tall.  thats like a big deal to me. i dont know why its a big deal but i like that im 6 feet tall. we were having dinner the other night my pupil walks past me she goes “you know raoul de chagny is 6'1”. and i just. Internalized it. and then the next day theyre under apollos lyre, talking shit about me.  and i sort of gauge his height against my pupils and im pretty sure hes like 5'11. so next day i leave the basement - my house is in the basement - and i go up into the theater where she is. and i go into her dressing room and i go, “you know, hes ‘5'11” she goes “what” i go “the boy! hes not 6'1 he’s ‘5'11”. she goes “what the hell are you talking about?!” i said “im 6 feet! im taller than the boy! you said raoul de chagny was 6'1 hes 5'11!!!!” she goes “i was fucking kidding!!!!!”
