Time and time again when revisiting TOS star trek takes the least interesting concepts and beats them to death with hammers. The gorn. Khan. Like shut UP. You wanna expand on shit? You know whats COOL? Gary Mitchell. Gary SEVEN. WANT ANOTHER GARY? Youre not getting any more. Youre spoiled rotten with Garys. The TALOSIANS are cool. The METRONS are cool. ANYTHING WITH ANDORIANS OR TELLARITES. And Tarsus IV is such a CRAZY gap to leave - it would be so instrumental in building Kirks character!! He survived a genocidal dictator!! Barely mentioned!!! Its insane!!!

But if we wanna get real. Something in his backstory that is even more traumatic, even more fundamental to his nature and function…..

in episode four kirk equates the enterprise to his lover and says "ill never lose you. never." and then in tsfs he blows up the enterprise to save spock. just another normal thing that happens in star trek

Tbh it’s just generally a fun read, especially considering how he got a lot of backlash because people thought the title was him trying to distance himself from the character, but he really doesn’t distance himself from Spock much at all

honestly if teleporters ever got invented during my lifetime i would be the most annoying analog boomer about it. my grandkids would be like ugh, grandma, why don’t you just take a teleporter trip to come visit us, we all do it all the time and it’s obviously safe and i would be like absolutely not. it kills you and reconstitutes a copy with your exact memories. you are consciously my grandchildren and i do not hold it against you but i know in my heart that you are nothing but copies of copies of copies borne out of irresponsible technology use. i am not touching that devil’s elevator as long as i live. i will take an airplane and you will wait for the several hours it takes for me to come visit you
