I’ve just had a theory idea:
What if Jimmy needs glasses but never wears them because he thinks they will ruin his image?
I don’t really have much evidence apart from possibly the jam juggling incident like he could have reduced depth perception or blurriness but it seems like quite a Jimmy thing that possibly he got tested and given them when he was younger and someone picked on him so he stopped wearing them.
Maybe one day something happens or possibly just after the jam juggling Thomas asks Jimmy in a part joking part concerned way if he needs glasses and Jimmy tells him about what happened when he was younger to which Thomas comforts him and they go get Jimmy some new glasses with Thomas ensuring him he still looks handsome along the way.

A young Thomas getting his hands on a copy of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde and imagining what Dorian would be like - a man described as “Wonderfully handsome, with finely-curved scarlet lips, his frank blue eyes, his crisp gold hair” and later with “rebellious curls”.
Yes Dorian is vain and does some questionable and illegal things but Thomas can’t help but imagine him as devilishly attractive.
After a while he kind of forgets about it.
Then years later Jimmy Kent walks into the servants hall and for a split second Thomas thinks about Dorian Gray again for the first time in years before asking him his name.

A study of Thomas Barrow’s pyjamas
I saw some pictures of Thomas from the orange scene in series six (these ones!) and I thought to myself hey those pyjamas are quite nice. Then I remember you get to see everyone in pyjamas in season 2 when they get up in the night to calm down Mr Lang and I found this:
These aren’t the same pyjamas!
They are both stripy but not the same.

A young Thomas freshly dumped by the duke listen to Money Money Money by ABBA with tears in his eyes while writing a to do list with take down the aristocracy being one of the top things closely behind steal all the wine in Downton
Tom overhears this plan and proposes they join forces and after stealing all the wine they decide to run away together to complete the take down

Delivery dude: Ah ok. Say I saw someone protesting, handing out flyers in town about the army, ranks and fighting and that.
Delivery dude: Yeah he was a little Irish dude, green uniform. Hehe yeah I thought he was going to get arrested anyway have a nice day *leaves*
