TOLKIEN WEEK 2022 Day 3 ➳ Favorite Quote / Light & Dark / Love
I don’t think any movie will make me feel the same ethereal sense of otherworldly sorrow and disembodied awe as that scene in Lord of the Rings where the loyal son is sent off into a doomed battle to please his vindictive father while Pippin sings a mourning song of his people
I was like 12 and high off this shit
These movies CHANGED ME
This is one of my favourite parts of the whole trilogy. It’s haunting.
And that Pippin takes actually a happy walking song of his people, because Hobbit songs are generally happy and about food and drink and gifts and things, and *transforms* it into a mourning song.
The song is from Fellowship, before all the heavy plot hits and they’re still in the Shire. It’s about walking, and how eventually all the bad things that scare or sadden you will fade away and you’ll be home warm by the fire.
And Pippin takes it, changes the lines, the key, and sings a song that is truly fit for Denethor’s great hall.
Knowing Billy Boyd gave his own melody to it and everyone had chills after hearing him sing it. This is how you get actors involved with the story and character, this is how amazingly well these films were cast. Fans have been singing that haunting tune in echoing halls and caves and towers for 20 years now and it never loses its beauty.
Home is behind
The world ahead
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadow
To the edge of night
Until the stars are all alight
Mist and shadow
Cloud and shade
All shall fade
All shall
Fade
And even better: Billy Boyd composed the tune to the song and then performed it for Peter Jackson and everyone else while filming. They only did one take! That very first take is the one that’s used in the film! He’s just that good!!
Happy Pride!
Every pride, you must reblog this. No exceptions
I love that four different people on my feed scheduled this joyous person to reblog by 8am on June 1. I look forward to seeing this a dozen more times today.

Jin: You're the love of my life and my best friend, I would do anything for you.
Yuna: I want you to eat three meals a day and have a decent sleep schedule.
Jin: Absolutely not.
As he should
We grew up together, but you threw it all away.
This is why I love the gaming community
On Tsushima island, Watatsumi shrine is considered the most iconic of the four major shrines on the island. It is famous for the three torii gates extending into the bay - supposedly marking the entrance to the palace of Ōwatatsumi no kami, the dragon god of the sea.
Some backstory; it served as the main shrine for the old port, and was the first shrine that merchants, sailors and diplomats would visit when they made landfall on the island.
Something else to note; Tsushima island was trade and diplomatic powerhouse. If people travelled to Japan from the Korean peninsula or mainland China, their first stop before reaching mainland Japan would have been Tsushima. The island was ruled by the Sō clan from the 11th century up until 1871. They were very powerful in their own right and continued to rule the island for some time even after the han system was abolished by emperor Meiji.
Now, back to the shrine
Watatsumi shrine is the only irl shrine on the island that is featured in the Ghost of Tsushima game, which is a great source of pride for the locals.
During the 2020 typhoon season, one of the three torii gates was knocked down into the water. Naturally, the local government raised some money to help with the repairs, but it wasn't going to be enough.
Until the gaming community stepped in
Fans of the Ghost of Tsushima game got wind of what happened and started a crowdfund. They ended up raising over $260 000, five times the initial goal.
Because of the fans, the repairs were completed last week.
I was able to visit Tsushima last week and I was one of the first people to see the newly restored torii gate. I managed to snap the above picture just before a massive storm swept in. If you look carefully, you can see the third torii gate within the second one.
This would not have been possible if it weren't for the enthusiasm of the fans and international community.
So thank you to every single person who donated to the repair efforts. Because of you, an important piece of the island's culture was preserved and put Tsushima back on the map.
When the pandemic is over, put Tsushima on your bucket list. It's a gorgeous island to visit with an insane amount of history and culture to boot.

Oh no, we just couldn’t have that now, could we?
Literally should be the point of renewable energy. The point of society in general should be to make as many things cheaper or free as possible.

#KEEP THIS ALIVE
Yo as someone Filipino, seeing Trese, made me cry tears if happiness. You know why? Because that's representation of my culture and country in the west. I was born in Quezon City Manila and I spent my eaely childhood there. Living in Canada for so long I feel stripped of my homeland identity sometimes. But seeing my culture and a part of my identity in western media? Makes me believe that the two sides of my can coexist and that Im still Filipino no matter where I live.
The Filipino Dub for Trese is *chef's kiss*
one thing i loved about Trese is that the villains are politicians, conceited celebrities, capitalists, military generals, and manipulative fathers.
Our boys normalizing pointing at things with their lips because really, why not?

kambal angst training to fight in hopes of their ate coming back so they can fight together like theyre supposed to
Just kambal angst
