since his return from the quantum realm, scott has started a new tradition in which he and cassie have a game night every friday night ( pending any emergencies ).

their favorite games to play are: settlers of catan, mouse trap, guess who, and extreme jenga ( where you stack two jenga towers on top of each other ).

he’s not really much of a cook, but he makes a mean homemade pizza, dough from scratch and everything.

on one of his and hope’s first dates, they visited the golden gate bridge. scott got this idea from an episode of parks and recreation, a show he is very much a fan of.

he doesn’t like to talk much about his time in the quantum realm, but he has been seeing a therapist ( vetted by hank and janet ) about it.

one of his favorite movies is elf, and it absolutely does not have to be christmas to watch that absolute classic piece of cinema.

one book he really enjoyed recently was salem’s lot by stephen king.

scott had to stop to think about it for a moment. there were so many thoughts and concerns raving through his head, he almost wished he’d had a separate brain to help sort through them all. “as far as i’m aware, no. are you having problems with the pym particles, nadia? if you are, you know you can tell me.”

scott was whisked away before he could get a word in edgewise, but he went with it, letting out an awkward but hopefully believable laugh as they continued walking. after they traversed a few additional blocks he finally recognized the woman who’d linked her arm with his. janet van dyne— nadia’s janet. “do you think we lost him? should we stop?”

“oh, i thought you — wait,” scott paused, realizing this was not the woman he’d heard the news about, but rather a different version of her, “sorry, that’s my mistake.”

“oh no, i’m good, kiddo. thanks,” scott politely declined, leaning back in his chair and giving nadia a tired smile.

“oh no, no more from you!” scott pointed a finger at the blonde, “zip it. no more ominous observations. too dangerous.”

“the moon?” scott asked, incredulous, “—who the hell’s on the moon right now?”

“so i’ve heard,” scott offered up a sympathetic smile, “—how’d your mom take it?”

“You know that I’m not a kid anymore, right? I can handle it.” Like the letter from S.H.I.E.L.D. they’d gotten in the mail last week asking her father to come in for some kind of meeting. Maybe Cassie should have kept it to herself, but she couldn’t help it when the question came out. “Is it S.H.I.E.L.D.?”

scott deflated at that, clumsily pulling over a chair to collapse into, “no, no — you’re right. i’m sorry, cassie. sometimes i’m reminded i really don’t know how to parent a teenager.” a bitter chuckle escaped past his lips but he shook it off, “you think i should be concerned?”

Cassie pretended to gasp as her father fell forward on the table, watching with an amused grin on her face as she giggled at him and just rolled her eyes. “Oh my God, you are so dramatic.”

And she wouldn’t have it any other way. Considering there was a good five years where she’d been convinced she’d never get to see one of his dumb jokes again, it was great to have him back. She’d never get sick of it, even as she grew older. She wasn’t his little peanut anymore, but that was okay. They could navigate their new relationship together, as a team again. 

“I play to win, Dad. You know that.” And maybe she wanted to see the look on his face when she snatched the longest road card right out from under him. Leaning her hand on her palm, she just smiled at him before letting out a content sigh. “I really missed you, you know. And I know I’ll be saying that for the rest of my life, but I don’t care. I’m just glad you’re back.”

moving to begin cleaning up their now completed game, scott shook his head, “i think that’s something you clearly inherited from me.” he wiggled an eyebrow, “exhibit a,” scott gestured vaguely to the table in front of them, and to cassie herself.

“i play to win, dad,” he repeated, mocking good-naturedly, “sure, let’s call it that.”

scott reached for the catan box, leaning away for a moment as cassie’s comments grew more heartfelt. he froze, mid reach before coming back up with the box and a sincere smile that only continued to grow as he reached for one of cassie’s hands, “i missed you too, peanut.” he let the moment play out, filled with temptation to pull his daughter into a hug right then and there, but he had time for hugs whenever now.

time to make up for lost time.

“i’m glad i’m back too — because now you’re never getting rid of me,” he teased.
