This was just a kid. Daisy could hardly even bring herself to look at the younger girl without letting her jaw clench as she just shrugged. “No, that’s not really true. I realized what Hill was doing and.. I got angry. Irrational.” Maybe if she hadn’t stormed into Hill’s office the moment Roz had been taken, they could have actually stood a chance at stopping this sooner. “I’m sorry, though. You didn’t deserve this. None of you did.” 

“Was it personal for you?” That’s usually why people get irrational: it means something to them. Otherwise, you often find apathy. Carmilla listens to the apology with a blank face before shrugging. “Some would say that we do. We break the law, we hurt people. Don’t we deserve to be locked up?” She scoffs. “Doesn’t matter.”

Camilla eyes the window, the thought becoming more and more tempting. “I have a stinger literally built into my arm. I think I can take them.”

“Me too.” It’s a surprise to relate to him, but Carmilla did have a weird — and fake — upbringing. “A little, yeah. There’s a lot you can do when other people aren’t holding you down anymore.”

“Great. Glad we’re on the same page.” Marc eyed the mechanism on the younger girl’s arm carefully while they sat there in the makeshift waiting area for Pleasant Hill discharge. His curiosity got the better of him as he finally broke the silence. “What’s that on your arm?”

“My arm’s a biological weapon.” Carmilla raises it, dark eyes looking at the altered appendage. “It’s a stinger, and it’ll hurt you quite a bit if you bug me.”

“Hill’s been taken care of.” When Daisy realized how final that sounded, she raised her eyebrows and quickly backtracked. “She’s not dead, though. Just on a mandatory medical leave.”

Her arm is buzzing. With her stinger no longer rendered inaccessible due to Pleasant Hill, the poison once again flows through her. She looks down at her hand before looking to the woman. “You’re S.H.I.E.L.D.” A statement, not a question. “But let me guess: it’s not your fault?”

“No, I’m not talkin’ about that.” The last word was so pronounced with his accent that he may as well have said it with a ‘d’. And by that, Marc meant Pleasant Hill. Thankfully he’d avoided the mandatory evaluations thus far, and it would stay that way. There was no way in hell he was sitting in front of a therapist. “Anything else on your mind? Literally anything else.”

Dark eyes glanced towards the man next to her. His words align with how Carmilla is feeling as well. “No one is making you talk,” she intones. “No one cares.”

“I’d wait for Monica to retire, but that’ll never happen.” She’s speaking of Monica Rappaccini, the Scientist Supreme of A.I.M. Her mother, more or less. “Not that A.I.M. is any better than S.H.I.E.L.D.”

“You haven’t helped me at all.” Not that Carmilla expects him to have answers. She doesn’t even know the man. “I’m sure if you had something else to say it would be equally aimless.”

“Monica’s not my mother,” she snaps sharply. Carmilla refuses to acknowledge her as such. “She doesn’t mean anything to me.”

“I was actually just asking if you were okay. You look kinda stressed.” Miles knew that look well because it felt like a constant for him recently. With the superhero stuff, new relationship, Beyond, Clones… He felt like pretty soon all the weight of everything on his plate would crush him to death. “Monica Rappaccini? Isn’t she that crazy scientist that runs A.I.M.?”

Carmilla blinks once, unsure as to why he’s taken interest or pretending to care. “I just came out of months spent being brainwashed by the good guys.” The words are coupled with air quotes. “I’m wonderful.” God, she hates Monica’s name. It’s enough to make her frown. “She prefers to call herself the Scientist Supreme. She’s a pretentious fuck.” And not Carmilla’s mother.
