In which Levi finds the unthinkable during the worst day of his life.

Since Levi joined the Scout Legion, in April of the year 844, many things changed in his life. Putting aside the 'deal' he made with Erwinâbecoming a Scout as a condition for having a clean criminal record, he was given the chance to leave the Underground and live on the Surface. No more cramped quarters, stealing for a living, dealing with the scum of the scum. No more roaches that ran around his house, mold on the walls, or living on scraps and leftoversâor stolen food. No more suffering from cold, heat or hunger. No more law of the jungle to follow, always being on alert. The Scouts provided him with three meals a day, a warm bed, access to hot running water, and a roof over his head.
The pallor that the Underground gave him, given the time spent there, slowly became less sickly and more like pale but healthy skin. Eating and exercising consistently helped his body as well, keeping him in a healthy shape. Though, Levi wasn't spared from the grim sight of his companions dying during a mission.
Isabel and Furlan lost their lives after a mere month since they became soldiers alongside him, right in front of his eyes. All that was left of them were pieces of their corpses, their lifeless gazes pointing to the sky, and the massive body of the titan that made him go berserk after it killed his dear companions.
The rain was pouring over the valley when the rest of the soldiers reached Levi. They had heard his screams as he sliced that titan, and his whimpers as he stood there, motionless. Erwin and Miche didn't do much, merely observing him and that pitiful scenery, along with the others of their own squad. Commander Shadis was on the other side of the flat clearing, together with a handful of other Scouts.
[Y/N], with the hood of her cloak covering her head, galloped towards that spot as well; her brows furrowed as she dismounted her horse, flashing Erwin a confused look. But when she saw Isabel's head, Furlan's half body and other limbs scattered on the ground, with splashes of blood that stained the grass, she understood. She took a few tentative steps towards Levi, gently placing a hand on his back and rubbing it.
They have known each other for just a month, but that was enough to learn that he was a very reserved guy when it came to his feelings and emotions. The fact he was whimpering and crying could only add to the weight of that grim situation.
He didn't move. Not an inch. Only felt that familiar, warm hand on his back, and that was more than enough. To know he still has someone with him. Not everything was lost. Not everything was gone and out of his reach.
His lips began to quiver. The tears didn't stop. He didn't bother wiping his tears of pain, shame, and grief. He didnât care that he looked like a mess. He always had his tough exterior for as long as he remembered. Showing a crack like this would prove he has a soul.
Erwin, Miche and the rest of their squad sat on their saddles, unmoving. Some were unblinking. They weren't foreign to that sightâlosing a comrade due to a titan. They knew it all too well, and after being Scouts for several years, it was routine. For Levi, a newbieâdespite being 25âwho became a soldier just a month earlier and was in the middle of his very first expedition, was different. Even [Y/N], who became a Scout when she was still a teenage girl, up to that momentâin her early twenties, and being one of the youngestâcould say she saw her fair share of dead comrades. But to see Levi in such a state and his facade completely broken, it made her heart ache.
"Let it all out," she whispered, taking a step closer to him. She pulled the hood of his own cloak over his head, so that her hair wouldn't get wet any more by the rain. "Don't bottle it up."
Levi didnât have the energy to protest. He was so mentally and emotionally tiredâdrained, that he merely let her guide his body. His head was hanging low, and eyes were cast down. He didnât want to relive that horrific moment. He didnât want to see the blood, hear their screams, or their corpses, staring back at him with those lifeless eyes. Just as she said, he couldnât keep it all inside anymore. It was too much to keep bottled up inside.
He let himself sob heavily, like he hadnât done in years, probably.
The cries were almost painful to hear. Leviâs broken, ragged sobs echoed into the air. No one else spoke a single word, much less dared to interfere. It wasnât their place. Levi was at his most vulnerable. It was a sight that shook everyone to the core. It was a new, strange, painful feeling for most, or at least, most werenât used to seeing Levi this human.
[Y/N] gently wrapped her arms around his torso, pulling him closer, her grip loose in case he didn't want that sort of contact. The last thing she wanted was to push it too far and invade his personal space in such a difficult moment.
"You have all the rights to feel like this," she murmured, rubbing his shoulders with one hand, her face sympathetic and somewhat calmâyet sad.
He didnât push her away, however. He felt her warmth around him, her gentle touch against his body, and the soothing tone of her voice. He knew it all too well. Those were the things that kept him grounded while he was in this sort of state. Sheâs what he needed more than anything. She was comfort, kindness. Warmth. He leaned into her, desperate for the comfort and comfort that only she can provide for him at a time like this.
He trembled and gasped for air, struggling to breathe through the heavy bouts of sobs. It has been years since he last broke down like this. His mind was filled with a chaotic mix of thoughts and memories. The images of his now dead friends kept flashing in his mind, haunting his already fractured mind. The blood, the pain, the anguish and grief. His eyes squeezed shut tight, as he held onto her even tighter. He needed her. He needed the comfort of her presence, and the safety that she brought with her.
[Y/N] proceeded to pull him away from that spot, not wanting him to stand among the limbs of his dead friends. She walked him towards her own horse, since his own had fallen prey to the same titan that killed Furlan and Isabel. Her eyes flickered up at Miche, who sat straight on his saddle, giving him a silent yet knowing look. The same happened with Erwinâknowing that they were going to lecture Levi, sooner or later, about his quite strong reaction. That was the last thing he needed. A few seconds passed before she focused back on Levi.
"Go mount my horse," she whispered, against his ear. Hilda, her trustworthy female stallion, was a kind soul and wouldn't mind having another person guiding her. "And move away from here. I'll join you in a bit."
Levi merely hummed. He wasn't in the mood to protest or argue, and she was probably the only one on this earth that he would obey without question. He nodded his head, and did what he was told. He mounted her horse. Hilda, the kind, tall chestnut mare gave a soft nicker and a swish of her tail. He gently pat her long, soft mane, and leaned his head against her, his eyes remaining cast downwards. He could hardly focus, but he was still very much in a state of numbness.
Once Levi had stepped away from there, a few steps away from the others, [Y/N] walked up to Erwin. The Squad Leader's deep blue eyes were on her, his expression stern and firm. She furrowed her brows as she reciprocated that stare, knowing that it was just a façade he had to put up when he was on duty. Not that he wouldn't be compassionate while off duty, but he had his own... way to show it. Debatable, for some.
"Not a word," she muttered, loud enough for Erwin, Miche and the rest of their squad to hear her. The pitter-patter of the rain filled the silence that fell on them. "At least for today."
Erwinâs gaze didnât falter. His gaze was stern. His usual, calm and collected demeanor remained. He didnât speak for a moment, as his eyes shifted from Levi, to Hilda, and over to [Y/N]. He wasnât used to seeing Levi like thisâfragile, vulnerable, almost broken. But it was to be expected. Anyone in the Scout Legion would understand the pain and grief from losing close comrades, but not quite on Leviâs level. He let out a long sigh, and briefly closed his eyes.
After that brief yet intense exchange, [Y/N] joined Levi and sat on her saddle, with him sitting behind her. Shadis and the group of Scouts that followed him across the valley galloped towards them, and the Commander immediately saw what happened. After so many years of being a soldier, Keith Shadis needed a mere glance to assess the situation. Without adding anything, he barked at his subordinates to follow him back to the walls and head back home. No one was against that. They were all tired, soaking in rainwater and coldâthe cold of the end of October was starting to make itself felt. The Scouts began to ride their horses behind Shadis, Levi clinging against [Y/N] as she maneuvered Hilda.
Levi held onto her tight, resting his chin over her shoulder. His body still trembled, but much less than before. He was exhausted, both emotionally and physically. But he was still shaken up, and dazed. He didnât say a word, and just held onto her like he was a small child clinging onto his mother at nighttime, scared of the monsters hiding in the shadows of his bedroom. He wasnât sure if he was afraid of something, or just too worn out to care.
The troops approached Wall Maria at around 5 in the afternoon. The sun was beginning to set, though due to the fact that the sky was grey, it wasn't very visible like every other day. As usual, the citizens would trepidly wait for the return of the Survey Corps, this time leaning out of the windows of their houses because of the rain. The horses stomped on the cobblestone roads of Shiganshina, crossing the district to get to Wall Rose and the headquarters in the wilderness area, near Trost. [Y/N] could feel Levi's weight against her back, his breath on the nape of her neck, the small tremors that came from him. One of her hands left the reins of her horse and rubbed the back of his hands, clasped around her abdomen, to comfort him.
Levi almost nuzzled into the crook of her neck, finding comfort in the intimate moment between them. Though he was cold, numb, and tired, her warm touch brought a sense of relief to him. His mind was still a mess from everything that just happened, and it was hard for him to focus on anything, other than the moment, and his desperate need for comfort.
His eyes slowly fluttere close, and his breathing slowed as he took small, shaky breaths. He wanted nothing more than to block out the world and be embraced in a warm embrace.
At around 5:20 pm, the Scouts finally arrived at the headquarters. Just like they would do after every other expedition, they settled their horses in the stables, removing the saddles and reins, brushing their manes and fur. Their ODM gears were properly cleaned up and secured inside their private lockers, along with the harness attached to it. All of them were dripping wet, and in need of a warm shower and a change of attire. [Y/N], once inside the headquarters, felt her body relaxing as the warmth from inside contrasted the cold from her body. Her gaze shifted to Levi, whose head still hung low, next to her. She felt a bit guilty for leaving him like that, but her damp clothes were beginning to make her feel uncomfortable.
"Go take a shower, hmm?" she whispered, tucking a few strands of his damp black hair behind his ear.
Levi slowly raised his head, meeting her eyes. A part of him didnât want to leave her side, but he knew she was right. He desperately needed a shower. Though he didn't have the energy to do it on his own, he could at least try. Besides, it was better than sitting around in soggy clothes that clung to his skin, making him even colder.
He let out a quiet hum, and nodded his head. He forced himself to stand up, still a bit shaky. He looked over at her once more, before he dragged himself to the male's barracks.
All the Scouts filled the shower cubicles of both the male and female restrooms, taking a shower and washing away the sweat, dirt and rainwater off their bodies. Dinner wouldn't be served until 7:40, having a couple of spare hours to rest or lounge. [Y/N] quickly washed her body and hair, dropping her uniform inside the women's laundry room and changing into regular, dry clothes. She dried her hair as much as possible with a towel, so as to avoid getting sick, and headed out of the female barracks. Erwin, Miche, Hange and a few others were already in the mess hall, enjoying a cup of warm tea to soothe their bodies. Shadis was probably in his office, doing the sameâmost likely with a cigar in his hand, mulling over the outcome of that expedition.
Levi took his sweet time in the shower that time, letting the hot water run over his body. It was the first time he felt relaxed, or somewhat warm in hours. He used plenty of soap, wanting to get rid of the disgusting feeling that came with spending an entire day outdoors, in the rain, covered in mud and titan blood. He took his time scrubbing every corner of his body, before he finally shut the water off and stepped out. He changed into fresh and clean clothes, feeling the cool air hit his still damp skin.
He exited the dormitories and made his way over to the main part of the headquarters. He could already hear various conversations and laughter coming from the mess hall. Even from some of the other rooms. But that didnât interest him in the slightest.
He pushed open one of the doors, heading into the mess hall. His eyes scanned over the room, looking for a particular face in the crowd. He caught a glimpse of [Y/N], sitting between a few others, sipping what looked to be tea. His gaze stayed on her for several long moments, before he quietly approached the table, sitting beside her, and keeping his distance, for now.
[Y/N]'s gaze snapped towards Levi as he settled on the bench where she was sitting. She offered him a small smile, wrapping an arm around his shoulders and beckoning him to get closerâto not isolate himself. Not in such a moment where he needed support, and being alone all the time would only make things worse.
The small gesture was all it took. Without a word, he leaned into her, resting his head against her shoulder, much like before. He wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her a bit closer, wanting the contact and closeness from her. He didnât care who was looking, or if anyone else was watching them. He was just in need of her comfort.
[Y/N] could smell the scent of lavender from his body and especially his hair, from the soap he had used to wash himself. His clothes smelled of fresh laundry, and in just a month that she had known him, she could tell that he was one of the very few people who never smelled bad unless it was during an expeditionâfor obvious reasons. Always squeaky clean, hair and undercut neatly trimmed, face always well shaved. Her lips brushed against his slightly damp hair, pressing her cheek against the top of Levi's head, her hand rubbing his upper arm.
Levi closed his eyes, relaxing against her for just a moment. The smell of her was familiar and soothing. He savored the feeling of her touch, the way her breath stirred the locks of his hair. He wanted nothing more than to stay like this forever. In this quiet moment of comfort and intimacy with her. It was just what he needed right now.
"I...," he finally spoke, his voice quiet and raspy. Though it was hard for him, he made an attempt to find his words. "I... donât deserve you."
"What are you saying?" [Y/N] murmured, against his soft hair. She closed her eyes for a moment, tightening her grip on him a little bit. To her, it was nonsenseâeveryone deserved somebody that would help them get through a loss and the consequential grieving.
"You deserve what everyone else deserves."
Levi let out a soft, humorless scoff. To him, what she said was nothing but a lie. Maybe everyone else deserves kindness. Maybe everyone else deserves companionship and love. But he didnât deserve it. He didnât deserve to find comfort in someone, and to be comforted by someone. He was different. He was a cold, damaged person. A ruthless killer.
For a moment, he said nothing, but instead, took a few deep, shaky breaths to keep from crying again. "No... everyone doesnât deserve what I have."
[Y/N] sighed under her breath. She couldn't even imagine what Levi went through, but the mere knowledge that he was from the Undergroundâthe only tidbit of information she got from his life before he became a Scoutâwas enough to tell her the standard of living he had had to endure until a month ago. Food shortages, inhumane hygienic conditions, and much more. It was rampant, without him speaking up about it, that Furlan and Isabel weren't the first dear people he lost.
Who knew what he went through, the guy that looked so tough and aloof when just a month earlier greeted his new comrades stating that he was Levi. Just Leviâno last name. Perhaps it made him feel even more alone, the fact that he had no family he belonged to, but now he had one. Within the Survey Corps, with people that could share the burden of losing someone they loved. She couldn't say much in return, and merely pressed a small kiss on his head, her lips lingering for a few seconds before the pulled away.
He could hardly comprehend how she could still embrace him like this despite his flaws. Despite his coldness, his emotionless demeanor, and the way he kept shutting everyone out. But the way she held him close, with a warm, gentle touch. That was enough to tell him that his past, and what heâs been through, didnât matter to her. She loved and accepted him for who he is.
[Y/N], however, had been feeling this weird aching at the pit of her stomach for a while, when Levi was around. Most of the time, she believed it was because she felt nervous, and her stomach churned at the prospect of training with him, or seeing him during meals. In only a month, [Y/N] could say she experienced what people would label as falling in love with someone, but she didn't know her stomachache was because of it until she opened up with her roommates. They told her it was normal, even if it happened in a month, and with a guy with Levi. He was well liked by the ladies, with his fair skin, black hair and greyish-blue eyes. Naturally thin shaped eyebrows, sharp jaw, well shaped nose. He was shorter than the rest of the male Scouts, standing at 5'3.
She couldn't explain it, but the moment she felt their hands intertwined together, her heart skipped a beat. She didn't move nor react, since the others were still around them, and it just looked like she was comforting himâwhich she was. Yet, the internal turmoil she felt was known only to her. The fear of being rejected if she expressed her feelings, and he was just being touchy because he needed support.
Levi wasnât used to someone giving him any sort of physical affection, except for the rare times when Hange would cling onto him. It was... bizarre. Yet at the same time, he didnât really mind it. It wasnât unpleasant. In fact, he would be lying if he said he didnât enjoy this kind of closeness with her. Especially after everything that just happened. Her presence, and her touch, was comforting.
He glanced over at her, studying her face. He thought she looked a bit strange, but he couldnât quite put his finger on it.
The evening passed quietly. Dinnertime arrived, with warm chicken broth, chicken meat, vegetables and potatoes served. At around 11, at the beginning of the curfew, everyone retired in their dormitoriesâfor the Squad Leaders and the Commander, their personal rooms. Though, it was common for the Scouts to get up and grab something to drink or eat during the night, as the curfew he was referring to exits out of the building. The following day, a Saturday, would be an off work one; since Shadis always planned the monthly expedition on Fridays, the Saturdays and Sundays that followed would be off duty so that the soldiers could either rest, visit their families or unwind and go out. Knowing that the next morning there would be no morning drill, [Y/N] sneaked out of her room and went to prepare herself some more warm tea. A flood of thoughts were racing through her head, and she couldn't sleep.
Levi, despite being completely drained from everything, also couldnât sleep. He laid quietly in his bed for hours. He tried everythingâsleeping on his back, on his side, face down, burying his head under the pillow. But nothing worked. All of the memories of what happened that day came back to haunt him. He couldnât get any rest.
After what felt like an hour of restless shifting, he let out a heavy sigh and sat up. He knew he wouldnât get any rest in here. Maybe a quick walk would help.
[Y/N], with a small lantern she grabbed from a nearby storage room lit up on the table she occupied, sat on a table of the mess hall with a cup of freshly brewed tea. The canteen looked even bigger at night, completely empty aside from her. The sound of footsteps made her head turn towards the hallway in front of the doors of the hall, and the dim light was able to make her notice that there was someone else there. And that someone would be Levi, as she could note once he began approaching her. That one churning in her stomach awakened, but she kept her calm demeanor and gave him a smile.
"Can't sleep?" she quietly asked.
Levi walked over to her as she spoke, his steps quiet and slow. His face was a bit pale, and his eyes were weary from exhaustion. If she looked close enough, she could also see the dark bags underneath his eyes.
He huffed softly, shaking his head in response to her question. He didnât say anything, but instead, sat down at the table, next to her. He leaned back against the chair, and briefly closed his eyes for a moment.
[Y/N] got up from her seat, quickly striding to the kitchen to grab another cup and pour some tea for him. As she came back to the table, he was sitting next to her spot. She took a seat on his left, passing him the cup of tea.
Levi didnât move for a few moments after she handed him the tea. He took the cup into his hands, letting its warmth warm his cold fingers. He didnât even bother to say thank you. He was too tired to speak. He simply took a small sip, before glancing over at her.
He was quiet a moment, just studying her face, before his gaze shifted back down to the cup in his hands. Silence fell on the pair. The rain was still pouring outside, soaking the yard around the headquarters, hitting the closed windows.
[Y/N] was torn; on the one hand, she wanted to open up about what she felt towards Levi and finally let it all out. If he didn't reciprocate her feelingsâknowing that tons of other female Scouts most likely got rejected after doing the sameâthat would be it, and she would have come to terms with it. On the other hand, confessing to him after the difficult day he had almost felt hypocritical. It made her feel guilty, for some reason. A long handful of minutes passed, her fingers twitching around her own cup of tea before her lips parted and let out a breath.
"I need to tell you something."
Levi could tell something was off with her. As he glanced over at her, he noticed she looked conflicted. There was a strange expression on her face. She seemed as if she was trying to find her words.
He raised an eyebrow as she spoke, and brought the cup of tea back up to his lips, taking another small sip, as he waited for her to continue.
[Y/N] gave him a sidelong glance, seeing that he was giving her the attention she needed. Now that she had said that, hinting that she needed to get something off her chest, she couldn't take a step back. She inwardly and mentally cursed at herself for being that blunt. She exhaled under her breath, gripping the cup a bit more tightly; her brows furrowed, her expression becoming a little more serious, troubled. Her stomach cramped as she spoke again.
"I think I'm in love with you."
Levi almost choked on the tea in his mouth as he heard her confession. His eyes widened as he stared at her, completely stunned. Did he just hear that right? Was she... in love with him? No, that couldnât be it. It had to be a joke, a prank. Why would someone like her ever fall for someone like him?
He was at a loss for words. His brain practically short-circuited. He continued to stare at her, his mouth slightly agape, as if expecting her to tell him she wasnât being serious.
[Y/N] tensed up, her eyes fixed on her own cup of tea. Her chest felt tight, and the tension made her shoulders, back, the nape of her neck and even her head ache. She was truly regretting it, at that point, but there was no going back.
"If you're not interested in me, it's fine," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "But I needed to tell you this."
Levi was still reeling from the revelation. In love... with him, of all people. Why did she like him? There was nothing likeable about him. He was cold, blunt, closed off. He was rude, unapproachable. He was terrible towards everyone, and he never even smiled. So what possessed her to fall for him? He couldnât understand it. But somehow, a strange, unfamiliar feeling began to well up in him. Warmth.
"How... how could you even like me?"
That was a logical question. Everyone would be curious about what made someone fall in love with them. The thing was, tons of times, those who fell in love didn't know what it exactly was. Love was something that blossomed out of the blue, a lot of times, and explaining it was difficult. [Y/N] let out a shuddering breath at that question. She figured that being honest was the best thing she could do.
"It's been a while since I've been feeling this... weird aching in my stomach. Every time you're involved," she replied, not able to meet his eyes. If she saw rejection in them, that would be itâand she didn't want to face the truth.
"And I figured that it's not a bad aching, but a good one. One thing that makes me shiver and makes my heart hurt every time I can be close to you."
Her words echoed in his head. A weird aching in her stomach? It only appeared when he was involved? She got goosebumps every time she was near him? Why? What could possibly be so attractive, or... comforting about him? He was the complete opposite of those things.
But strangely, a part of him, deep down, wanted to keep listening. He couldnât get himself to tell her to stop talking. He wanted to hear her out. The words he couldnât bring himself to say before finally came out.
"I can't tell you why I like you, but I never felt like this for any guy before," [Y/N] confessed, her shoulders tense as she continued confessing her feelings to Levi. Her eyelids fluttered close as she tried to gather her thoughts and clear her mind.
"The first time I felt it was two weeks ago. When I fell in the mud during training and you helped me clean myself."
He remembered that day. She fell, and mud practically stained all over her face, her hair, and her clothing. She looked like a mess, and he couldnât help but let out a small scoff at the sight of her.
And yet, he found himself grabbing a towel and bringing her over to the water pump so she could clean herself. He even helped her clean her hair, since she was struggling to get the mud out.
Now that he recalled that memory, he remembered the strange feeling in his heart that day. The one he couldnât quite understand.
He was quiet for a moment, as his brow furrowed slightly. As his mind went over everything she had said, and everything he experienced, he began to put the pieces together. That aching in the stomach, those shivers, the pounding in her heart.
Those sensations he felt... they were the same ones he got every time he was around her, wasn't it? That aching, that heart racing, those strange tingles in his fingers whenever he touched her. Were those...
He inhaled deeply, as he let the realization fully sink in. He was falling in love. He was falling in love with her. But he didnât understand how or why. He had never been in love with anyone before, let alone confessed his feelings. That was completely foreign to him. But the very thought of expressing his feelings, and confessing all of this, terrified him. He could be rejected. She could find his confession pathetic. And yet, there was another nagging feeling at the back of his mind.
He swallowed, his throat dry. He continued to look directly at her. He couldnât help but study her face and every one of her features. A part of him wanted to reach up and gently brush against her rosy cheeks, and then run his fingers through her hair.
"Hey." His voice was hoarse, almost like a whisper. He was almost afraid to speak up and ruin this strange, yet wonderful moment.
"If you don't like me back, it's fine," [Y/N] muttered, her expression still twisted in a pensive, yet serious one. Her heart was slamming against her ribcage, the pit of her stomach cramping and the palms of her hands were getting clammy.
"But please, just tell me. Reject me if you have to, and I'll move on."
Those words... It was as if they stabbed him right in the chest. She was giving him the chance to reject her and put an end to it. She was putting her own feelings on the line, all for him. After confessing everything to him, she'd willingly walk away if he didnât reciprocate her feelings. A part of him couldnât even believe this was real.
He slowly exhaled, his hands slightly shaking as he set the cup of tea down on the table. He could feel his heart racing in his chest.
He lifted his hand and gently reached out, grasping her chin and tilting her head up so she was looking up at him. The touch of his fingers against her skin was gentle, even though a part of him just wanted to desperately hold onto her, pull her against him and never let go.
A beat of silence passed between them, as he stared deeply into her eyes. The moonlight streaming in through the window made her look even more beautiful, in his eyes. More perfect, more incredible than ever before.
He opened his mouth to speak, to force himself to say something to her, but no words came out. He was at a loss for words. What was he supposed to say? What was he supposed to do?
He closed his mouth, clenching his teeth together. The pounding in his chest only became more intense, as if it was trying to break through his ribcage. She was waiting for his response, and it was completely killing him. But he had to say it. He had to tell her. He had to tell her how he felt about her.
Levi leaned in a little closer, his hand still on her chin. The other slowly reached up, gently touching her cheek, his fingers tracing against her warm skin. His fingertips continued to gently brush along her cheeks, his eyes staring directly into hers, as he finally forced himself to say something.
"I donâtâŠ. I donât want to reject you."
[Y/N]'s gaze softened, leaning forward, the tips of their noses touching. Her half-lidded eyes met his own, before they fluttered close.
And that kiss was everything both of them ever wanted, that day.
