quick study tips now that I've almost finished my masters: follow study with me videos on youtube. download cold turkey website blocker on your laptop and liberate website blocker on your phone. chew gum while studying. play an instrument, knit/crochet, or move while on study breaks instead of going on your phone. always keep your study space clean. wear noise cancelling headphones with no music playing (that's my cue to focus). eat plenty always and bring snacks. know when to stop. learn when you focus best, and only plan to be able to work during those times- schedule errands / meetings / hobbies / rest during times when you know you won't be focused. schedule at least one full day per week where you have no responsibilities. if you're too tired to work, take a nap instead of sitting there numb and exhausted with dry eyes. you can skip class sometimes (trust me). know when "good enough" is enough (and when it's not).
Restarting this blog because I have zero motivation and LOTS of stuff to get done.
So here’s a reintroduction post!
I’m Anu, a second year medical student from India.
Actually my final exams are in a month, so hopefully I’ll be a third year student soon 🤞
I also love reading, sketching and music.
I’m basically going to be using this blog for accountability so here’s my plan for today
I’ll be back in the evening to let you know how much I’ve gotten done!
reblog and put in the tags what comes up when you type “i want”
i love being op of this post bc most of the time its either “i want to scream” “i want to cry” or “i want one” (with the person then being perplexed by what “one” is referring to) but then you get shit like this
when a line in a book is so good that you have to reread it over and over just to let it truly sink in
Science of well being rewirements week 4
OK so this was a very weird and stressful week, further proved by how my track record for this week was WAY different than what it should have been.
The rewirements for this week was exercise and sleep (7+ hours)
Excercise was 2/7 ( disappointing because exercise for last week had been 6/7)
Sleep was 5/7 which was very surprising. I think it's been months since my sleep schedule even resembled something healthy.
Science of well being rewirements: week 3
This week was kindness and social connection.
I don't have much to say since I had nowhere to go this week and was just stuck at home. Not really conducive to social connection yk.
Nonetheless I spent time with my family and videocalled my friends so I chose to count that even though that's not what I was supposed to do.
So my tracker for social connection says 7/7 and for kindness it says 6/7.
Anyway, I'll probably do this rewirement for the final 3 weeks since I think this is what will probably make the most difference in my life so I'm not too disappointed about this week.
Science of well being requirements: week 2
Week 2 was gratitude and savouring!!
So first, gratitude:
This is something I already do, but for this week I took it up a notch and wrote a list of 5 things everyday instead of my usual 1.
I did 5 days out of 7.
do I feel happier? Well, I did feel happy while writing and after checking my mood tracker (the green line), I was consistently happier this week, although we can't be sure that's because of this.
Secondly, savouring:
Savouring is basically being completely in the moment and really enjoying an experience.
I've tracked this everyday, so 7/7, which is nice but this is something I want to slowly build up into being something I do always. I've been following the holistic psychologist more closely recently and I've been doing some research into intuitive eating as well, and savouring as a concept is something important to both so i will be continuing actively working on this outside of this week.

The Science of Well Being: Rewirements week 1
So the first week consisted of finding your 5 top strengths through a quiz by the VIA institute and actively using your strengths daily for a week.
My top 5 strengths were:
Curiosity
Love of learning
Appreciation of beauty and excellence
Perspective
Spirituality
Now, I didn't actually have to put any effort into using these so I'm not sure how successful this was?? I spent the first half of the week going over the theory part of the course, so love of learning, and the second half reading the Stalking Jack the Ripper series. Now these are mystery-cum-romance ya novels ( also amazing!! but I'll try to reign in the fangirling) so that was basically everything. If i go into detail it'll take a long time for me to stop so I'm not going to.
Note- As far as I could make out from the description, their version of Spirituality is a mixture of Philosophy, meaning, purpose and connection. very confusing idk
I'm expecting next week (Savouring and Gratitude) to go better!

Today was really productive!!
I finished book 6 of the Illiad
Finished reading the cell structure and function chapter of physiology
Downloaded some music theory textbooks so I can start studying that
Went through the sensory perception part of Processing the Environment on MCAT Khan Academy
Decided to practice portrait drawing for a while now. I don't usually draw celebrities but i decided to start so i could judge whether my drawing's accuracy. Not so great on that today😬😬
Today evening I went down to play badminton with my dad and sister but unfortunately, we went at the same time as the uncles in my apartment so it was 15 mins of playing while bearing their judgemental looks and then more half an hour of me and my dad awkwardly walking around while my sister played squash😶

I drew this today!
Do i need to work on my faces and hands? Yes, definitely.
But I've been working on people's bodies, postures and gesture drawing recently and I'm glad that those have turned out well.
They look like people and it looks like one scene, rather than two people weirdly separate, which is how a lot of my sketches have turned out before.
And maybe this is wishful thinking, but it does look a bit like Anne Hathaway!?
how to pay better attention in online classes
1. use blocker extensions: opening a new tab and wasting time on social media sites will be impossible if you simply block ‘em. it makes a huge difference in your concentration. i personally use blocksite.
2. disable incognito mode: you may have noticed that extensions don’t necessarily work in incognito mode. i would often find myself simply opening an incognito window and whiling away precious class time on tumblr and youtube. it’s pretty easy to remove incognito mode, you can learn how here.
3. answer a lot in class: (if you can). this way, the teachers will be familiar with you and might call on you a lot and you’ll build a rep in class and naturally interact more and participate more. so you’ll automatically have to pay attention and plus, it might be fun, you’ll have interesting discussions and get to know your fellow classmates.
4. be well-prepared beforehand: have a good meal; use the washroom; brush; shower; have a snack, a water bottle and coffee/tea on your table and your books+stationery ready before class. this way, you won’t get distracted or feel tired or sleepy, but rather fresh and prepared.
5. find a way to stay grounded and pay attention: i’m a maladaptive daydreamer so i drift off or zone out quite a lot. i’m sure other people might have trouble paying attention too for some reason or the other. i try to answer a lot, take handwritten notes, meditate during breaks and have something to fidget with to try and pay attention. try find a system that works for you and is suited to you.
i hope this this helps. happy learning!!!!
