I don’t get why people keep assuming Stede didn’t know he had more than platonic feelings for Ed, he just didn’t know for sure what they meant. Stede had never been in love before, probably didn’t even court anyone, but he’d also never had a proper friendship before either.

On top of THAT blackbeard is stede’s ideal of a cool renowned pirate so I imagine it was a lot like “am I in love with him or is it gender envy?”

Also everyone keeps forgetting that after Stede got /kidnapped/ he was convinced that he‘s destroying everyone around him and that he deserves to die AND THEN the person who convinced him, the very twin brother of the guy he manslaughtered and had PTSD induced hallucinations over, whose entire life was /destroyed/ by his hunt for Stede, tripped while trying to execute Stede AND ACCIDENTALLY BLEW HIS OWN BRAINS OUT.

Like the sword was horrifying but the twin shot himself point blank in the face. We don’t see his body like we see his brother’s body. Like they don’t play a single second of that for laughs like they did in the first episode, Stede screams in such genuine mind breaking horror.

That happens in the middle of the night. He arrives home in the middle of his wife’s meeting, mid-morning/early-afternoon. He walked straight from the corpse to his wife’s home over /hours/.

Everyone assumes he either lied to Ed or made a conscious decision to go back to his family out of guilt, and I’m sure that thought ultimately kept him on that path, but he was most likely in literal actual medical shock when he decided to go home, probably even when he enters the house.

That makes a lot more sense than him assuming she’d be super chill about him coming back after leaving (especially since he frequently imagined how upset she’d be for his leaving the way he did) and also knowingly making his family a harborer of a murderous pirate fugitive who might be associated with another dead body.

Less “I’ll abandon Ed and go back to my family” and more like Big Bold “Go Back. Undo. Get Home. It’ll be fine.” On a loop.

Ive been reading my old fanfics the last few nights, including my unpublished stuff, and it's insane how much unpublished stuff there is compared to published. Like there's a 50k+ borderline plotless post season 2 Stranger Things milevill fic with a lot of angsty Will and slow burn. There's a basically done but cheesy as hell GMW sequel to that other fic with actual shippy stuff that's like 15k words long.

I've written way more than I realized. (I'm also seriously thinking of cleaning them all up and posting them even tho they're cheesy and not great or reflective of my writing skills now, but.. yknow comments and likes come with a lil bit of dopamine and I miss that nice brain juice)

I think It™ is the only fandom I've ever been in where it's the people who HAVEN'T read the book that have a massive superiority complex

don't get it twisted I don't think anyone has to or should read the book if they don't actually want to because A) it's long as fuck and B) there's plenty of content I think is best left ignored (Richie's racism, THAT scene you know the one) or at least kinda handwaved (the logistics of literally any of the turtle mythology or deadlights) but like......... there's no reason to get irrationally pissed off at people who want to incorporate book content in their fics/HCs ESPECIALLY considering that the movies did a pretty big disservice to a lot of characters?? if you're not interested in a dynamic because it wasn't explored onscreen or you don't like an interpration that (you feel) contradicts the movies you can just......... choose not to engage with it rather than trying to prove that you have The One Objectively Correct And Valid Take.......... literally none of it is More Canon than anything else because it's not real............... we are all simply little bitches playing in the same cocaine-filled sandbox.................... Try not to piss in it...................
