KILLING EVE S03E07: “beautiful monster”
enderbaptista:
giddy like a schoolgirl ; for once in her life , ender was burdened with the spin of a crush , reduced to a giggly mess as they pranced and spun , hoping that their slightly creepy and sub-zero date wouldn’t reach an endpoint . they could have twirled forever in the buzzing silence , and yet she soon found herself stationary , gazing up at the taller woman , button nose featherlight and ghosting against the other’s like the wings of butterflies . “ what gives you that impression ?? “ she smirked , a dimple appearing in the centre of her cheek , a shooting star among the helicopters in the roswell sky ; was it disrespectful , to tumble into adoration in the presence of the dead ?? there was something rather beautiful about such a vibrant display of life pirouetting across tile . when it came to men ender was arrogant , standoffish , dismissive — the circumstances couldn’t have been more different , cheeks glowing and lips slightly parted in a silent beg for the space between them to be closed . as dark eyes settled on the bow of aoife’s lips she imagined what the woman might taste like ; honey , a mango dipped in the salt waters of home , a lollipop granted after a particular brave dentist visit . whatever awaited her , ender wasn’t picky . she simply couldn’t hold off the temptation any longer . “ either way , you’re more a man than those wild pony creeps could ever be … “ she whispered , realising just how feeble , how quiet , how safe in her vulnerability she was able to feel in the strong arms of the blonde . tippy toes aided in closing the gap between them , and a turn of her head sent fireworks dancing from her lips to aoife’s , remnants marked by smeared cherry lipstick ( a smear of territory she hoped the other would cling onto once they separated ) .
it was always both a comfort and a thrill to hold someone this close and it was this perfect mix of those two emotions that aoife thrived on, happily floating in the space between them. and while she would be the first to admit that she did do this regularly, it had been a long time since it had been with someone who actually shared her interest, who slotted into her space as if she belonged there in the first place. she raised her hand to chase the dimple that appeared on ender’s cheek, thumb stroking reverently over the small crater as if she were amazed that something she said would be worthy of its appearance. “ call it a fortune teller’s intuition. ” she remembered a constant supply of young couples, always eager to know if the fragile, fleeting thing they called a relationship was destined to last, giddy and desperate for any validation she might find tucked between the well worn corners of her cards. she realised this was probably how they felt, like they were holding so delicate and special in their hands that they were afraid might disappear the next time they blinked. a glance towards her lips did not go unnoticed, but aoife really just wanted to exist in the tension for a little while longer; it was blissful, the loaded moment before lips met, when it was so inevitable that the only question was who would give in first. and she could still cling to that control, the power of it not being her. “ well, if that’s the competition then it’s an easy victory. ” it came out not quite as a whisper, but as a low hum, her voice deeper and quieter in respect for the atmosphere the pair had created around them. she almost smiled into the kiss as ender gave in, the hand that still floated near the other’s cheek slipping down to cup the side of her neck as she allowed herself to get lost in the moment. and when she pulled away she made sure not to go far, only allowing enough space to be able to look at each other again, their breaths still mingling between them as she brought her thumb back up to gently swipe away smudge of lipstick at the corner of ender’s mouth.
simba-gano:
“Wow, paying the bills,” Simba said, clearly impressed. “You must’ve done it a lot then, or been really good at it,” he said. He wasn’t sure how tarot cards worked, had only heard about it second hand. Simba laughed. “Isn’t English the language and British thing one anyone not from England wants to hear?” He grinned. “I have a settled hate for the British because I’m French, that is kind of as it should be,” he admitted. He shook his head at the question. “No, I’ve been all over Europe though, mostly on school trips, but I only once went out of the continent and made it here.”
“ wanna know a secret ?? you don’t even have to be good at it, just convincing. ” it was true, that the majority of her gig had been just persuading people to step into the tent, whatever happened once they were inside and she had their money depended really on how much she enjoyed putting on a show. “ i am good at it, but it’s like, 90% showmanship and 10% actual talent. ” she took another sip of the drink in front of her with a slight laugh, “ english is the language yeah, but it’s the country too. the rest of britain is mostly just dragged along for the ride. something we have in common then, ” aoife raised her drink slightly in a halfhearted toast. “ oh nice !! i love europe, there are so many places i feel like i never spent enough time in. especially in some of the bigger countries. and some we missed, too. ”
sebastianortiz:
“Split a cab? What? You mean you don’t think you’ll be up for walking even if you end up completely fucked…?” Seb had to laugh at the image that it conjured up. It really had been a long time since he’d been that bad, never really felt much of a reason to drink excessively anymore. It was more a thing when he’d been out travelling. “You’re clearly not trying hard enough then… or whatever,” he said with a laugh.
“ what, and risk a repeat performance of last time, when i woke up across town in some rich family’s treehouse ?? noooo thank you, i think i’ll pick a taxi safely delivering me to my front door. ” there was a time when she would have scoffed at what she deemed an unnecessary expense, but now that she was older and had a fixed address, she supposed that some things were worth the price. “ or maybe i’m trying too hard and that’s my downfall. rule number one, never try too hard at anything. ” words aoife definitely lived by, having done the bare minimum at almost everything she’d put her mind towards. “ now, how many tequilas deep do you need to be to come dance with me, and are we there yet ?? ”
spunkyspanks-chae:
Chaewon looked at the woman cheering for her, a smile on her face. “Okay, I think calling it ‘sick’ is going a little too far.” But she felt proud of herself either way, a pink flush appearing on her cheeks. “Ah, well, I don’t think I could impress someone who did know the technical stuff.” She approached the woman to look at the scar, impressed by it. She could never do trapeze, nor any circus arts. She wasn’t uncoordinated, by any means, but she wasn’t exactly a master of misdirection either. Even though she was so small, Chaewon was rough around the edges, always ready for a fight, and she imagined that was not how circus people were. “That is so cool! I wish I could learn trapeze, it sounds so hard. But did you do circus things too? How did you know acrobats?”
aoife shook her head, “ nope, it’s definitely sick. at least to me and my untrained eye. ” it stirred up memories she hadn’t thought about in a while, of tarot cards stretched out across grass as her friends practiced their various impressive tricks all around her, the sound of laughter and the crackling of the bonfire filling the air. “ most of my friends were always just impressed to see people trying, the technical stuff can be worked on, ” she responded with a shrug of her shoulders. “ it is hard, i still have no idea how they do it. especially once you add in the rings of fire and all that. i used to travel with the circus, but i never did any of that impressive stuff. i used to read fortunes. ”
tash-manian-devil:
Massoud raised an eyebrow, not at all surprised, or impressed, or anything really, just confused as to why anyone would try to teach a grown person like him manners. They shook their head, biting down on the cig hanging from their lips. “Ah, you’re right. Please?” they added, shrugging. “And thank you,” they said as they accepted the lighter by quickly snatching it from the air and using it, the movement almost graceful as they had done it so many times. He took a deep breath and let his shoulders drop in contentment. “Yes, life still sucks,” he said happily, keeping the lighter in his hand.
aoife didn’t even smoke, at least not cigarettes, but she had learned on her travels that the most interesting conversations often happened when someone asked for a light, so she had always carried one with her. that, and she occasionally did enjoy burning things. “ you’re welcome, ” she responded, her tone almost imperceptibly sarcastic. leaning against the wall behind her, aoife pulled her vape pen out of the same pocket the lighter had come from, taking a long drag before exhaling a mist of flavoured vapour up into the air above her face. “ no amount of nicotine would fix that, i’m afraid. i think that’d take, like, hard work. and governments that don’t only care about rich people. ” another exhale of vapour before she glanced down at their hand and added, “ and giving hot blondes their lighters back. ”
enderbaptista:
thumbs rested either side of aoife’s cheeks to revel in the warmth of a real human over the husk of her previous skeleton date . she would blame it on the alcohol , although she wasn’t all that drunk , and even if she had been the intentions had existed from the start — if a slight drink had merely been a catalyst , could you pin the responsibility on a slight tipple ?? the coffin-point of her nail brushed against silk skin as they moved , swaying one direction then the other , spinning and twirling through the cold gurneys and trays of medical equipment ; the morgue as their own private ballroom . perhaps to anybody with regular interests there would be nothing romantic about their choice of date location , but for ender it was nothing short of perfect . there was a spooky air and likely a ghost or two observing their cascade into affection ; if she strained her ears , she would have likely heard the clapping and jeering of the deceased , rooting for the two women as they toed the line between friendship and whatever else this could have been . toe to toe , she allowed herself to be led by the woman with her hands around her waist , shifting her palms to instead drape around aoife’s neck . fingertips curled within the tendrils of blonde at her shoulder blades . “ this is much more exciting , “ a small voice affirmed , chestnut eyes never once leaving the other’s , “ although i don’t know .. i’m still not fully convinced . i do like my guys without any autonomy or freedom of speech .. “ and for women ?? well , ender hadn’t a criteria ; in her eyes , every girl was gorgeous , and aoife was the top of the food chain when it came to potential bachelorettes when it came to the dust bowl of roswell , new mexico . the leader of the pack had been reduced to a mewling cub at the presence of the other — the unlikely humility was a welcomed change to the egotistical bitchiness the leader of the ‘ heathers ‘ seemed to carry upon her shoulders like the earth to atlas . it seemed there was always a front to maintain , a persona of regina george and cher horowitz combined , but here ?? ender , for the first time in what felt like an eternity , could be unapologetically just that ; ender .
aoife could work her way around her workspace with her eyes closed, having spent countless hours weaving around the examination tables and instrument trolleys, so this knowledge came in handy as she lead them both around the space, strong hands resting on ender’s waist as she held her close. her grip tightened slightly now that her affections were reciprocated, confident and vaguely possessive, self-assured in a way that almost bordered on arrogance. it was how she had been ever since she broke off her disappointing engagement and set off to travel the world, so sure of herself and her charms that she couldn’t even comprehend someone not being interested. her blood felt warm despite the cold surroundings, the heady buzz of alcohol and adrenaline humming in her veins the way it always did when someone was in her arms like this. the smile that made its way onto her face was almost soft, tender in a way she so often pretended not to be and so far removed from her signature smirk. “ i’m lucky i’m no guy then, ” hazel eyes glinted with humour, flicking downwards to glance at her own body as if it illustrate her point before they came right back up to maintain eye contact. “ though i can pretend, if you like. ” she slid her hands down about an inch so that they now rested securely against the soft curve of ender’s hips, fingers splayed out as if trying to maximise the surface area of the contact. their movements slowed, still swaying lightly but only in one spot, aoife’s focus solely on the person in front of her and not on guiding then around the room. “ i have a sneaking suspicion you like me just the way i am, though. ”
simba-gano:
“Oh, you do tarot, how interesting!” And Simba could not say it without sounded absolutely serious about how interesting it was to him. He had never had a tarot reading, he had no idea what a tarot reading involved, he very much wanted to find out. “Ah, that makes more sense, I was here beating myself up because I am very bad at recognising english accents,” he said with a laugh. “How was Australia?” he asked. Simba laughed again, the jokes being flung around, and he had to admit he was out of them. He grinned however, she seemed to make good work of them however. “I’m a professor at the university, I teach Cardiothoracic Surgery.”
" i do !! just for fun now, though it used to pay the bills. ” she used bills in the loosest sense of the word, since her outgoing payments at the time had been late night grocery store runs and deposits into the piggy bank that they’d kept on the dashboard of the camper van for gas money. “ oof, don’t ever tell an irish person they have an english accent !! ” aoife was laughing as she spoke, which she hoped conveyed that she wasn’t in any way offended. “ australia was awesome, once i got used to the weather and the terrifying creatures. have you ever been ?? ” she always hoped to meet people that shared her love of travelling, finding nothing more interesting than trading stories and hopefully hearing about places she had yet to discover. “ oh, cool !! actively trying to keep me out of a job, eh ?? ”

Name a better way to start an adventure than to race another car and leave them in the dust. It hadn’t been planned, but seeing the guys in the other car wanted to flaunt, Mia couldn’t help but rev her engine to signal a go. Looking to her side view for any signs of them, a smirk begins to dawn. She and Aoife were now minutes away from their destination. “We’re ahead of schedule,” she announces, making up for the time she took to get ready, to tease, “How do you like them apples?” I told you so.
controlling the playlist was something aoife took incredibly seriously, so her eyes were constantly darting between the phone in her hand, her friend in the driver’s seat, and the road stretching out in front of them. their unofficial race with the car next to them had definitely captured her attention, however — there were few things she loved more than humbling men. “ nice !! that’s why you’re the driver, i would have gotten lost about ten miles ago. ” well, that and the fact that her car, an old hearse she was considering painting some gaudy colour, didn’t do so well on the freeway. “ we can use the time we’ve saved to top up on snacks. ” she punctuated her sentence by dipping her hand into the bag of candy on her lap, tipping a few into her mouth before offering the bag out to mia.
laraxfitzgerald:
“Well, perhaps. I do go once or twice every year.” A motherland was also a place of business for Lara.. the ties the Westies had with the Irish mafia were stronger than ever. “Australia, wow.. I’ve been once. Loved it, especially the Gold Coast and Uluru. That was an amazing experience, but,” the older woman smiled as she understood Aoife more than well. The need to leave the nest was once just as strong in Lara as it was in Aoife, but the girl took it to a whole other level. “I don’t know if I could ever live there? The whole continent is practically trying to kill you,” she laughed, “but I envy you for being brave enough to move so much, and to such different continents.. I’ve only lived in Texas, and of course, in Connecticut because of school, but when I wanted to move to London, I had to go back home to Texas so.. I really do envy you, Aoife.” If only she had more time before becoming the boss.. three or five or seven years top, perhaps all would have been different. She didn’t regret the title, no, never, nor did she wanted to leave it, but there were times she wondered how would it be if she had more time to leave a life of a regular citizen. “Business.. I’m a lawyer and I’ve decided to open a branch of my law firm here. So my life basically consists of constant traveling between Corpus Christi and Roswell,” could she even remember the last time she was on court considering other partners and lawyers - all of them part of the Westies - did everything while she was clearly too focused on the role of the boss.. probably not. “And what is that you do?”
the thought of returning home so often, the place that she once had been so certain was holding her hostage, almost caused a physical shudder. “ you’ll have to let me know next time you go, then i can ask you to bring me back some chocolate that doesn’t taste like shit, ” she deflected her discomfort with humour, choosing to shift the focus towards the small things she did miss about her home country. “ oh yeah ?? it was a big adjustment, but i had fun. camping was pretty terrifying though, i learned pretty quick it was best to just never venture outside of the bus at night. ” she had never really heard her wanderlust described as bravery before – if anything it was more closely aligned to cowardice. while it stemmed from a simple desire to see the world, it had quickly spirally into a need to never become tied to one place, to run whenever she developed any kind of attachment or when things got tough. perhaps that was why she still hadn’t made many close connections in roswell, the part of her that was getting tired of running aware that keeping people at a distance would quiet the impulse to pack up and move. “ well, it’s never too late, right ?? you seem like you’ve got money, i’m sure you can squeeze some extra holidays in. ” blunt, direct as usual. “ oh, that’s cool !! you definitely have money then. i’m a morgue technician. you’ve probably seen some of my handiwork as evidence, if criminal law’s your thing. ”
fletcherliu:
fletcher and the establishment had more in common than first thought , for extravagance for the sake of extravagance was his modus operandi . the male had too much money to know what to do with , that much was a given , and so he splashed out on egyptian cotton and italian cigarettes , named brands to fill the void left by lovers and absent family members . aoife served as temporary respite to an all-consuming loneliness , so much so that he would deconstruct his lobster limb by limb and painstakingly de-shell his meal , peeling off each individual shred of meat in exchange for less time spent alone . “ the poor waitress ?? “ the male repeated , brow cocking at his friend’s show of empathy , “ we’re not doing anything wrong . if anything , we’re entertaining her — she’ll go home tonight and tell her family of us around the dinner table , about this strange couple who were so infatuated that they couldn’t go a minute without hyping each other up , “ a family . a dinner table . his dream . although they were playing with imagination and thinly-veiled lies , it was the reality adjacent to his own that the oldest liu really wanted — normality , the life of somebody unburdened by parental relationships devoid of love and manipulating fathers . “ first of all , i’m absolutely funny . second , don’t act as though this is such a chunk out of your day that you want to pack up and go home already . i’m treating you to a fancy meal , i just as easily couldn’t .. “ but they were both aiding each other in their own unspoken ways and so , even if they were rumbled and asked to leave after a shoddy display of faux-affection , they would simply hop from chandelier-laden restaurant to chandelier-laden restaurant , draining their reserves of champagne and pilfering baskets of free , fresh breadsticks . glancing upwards , the light fixtures glittering in near-black eyes , tattooed arms crossed over his chest . “ hm . well , i did actually look into getting some of these for my own place . they could be up to $2,500 a piece — i reckon they could have easily spent $50,000 on lights alone , not to mention the carpets and tablecloths . “ all style , no substance — boy , did that sound familiar . tucking a napkin across his lap , eyes crinkled in feigned delight as the waitress returned , balancing their dishes on either arm . “ smells delightful , “ fletcher mused , with all the enthusiasm as an air-hostess fighting leering passenger gazes , “ i kept saying to my darling i had a hankering for lobster , “
aoife thought she might never shake the feeling of not belonging in a place like this, the result of her modest upbringing and spending most of her adult years travelling, flitting from place to place with scarcely more than the change in her pocket and the clothes on her back, her and her friends scraping together just enough to afford the gas to get them to their next destination. even with how much she loved flirting her way to free drinks and fancy dinners, the nagging thought at the back of her mind constantly reminded her that she was an imposter in that space and that everyone could tell. as arrogant as she was, self-doubt still sometimes made itself known, just as it did now as she glanced around her at the extravagant decor. “ i think it’s probably more likely that she’ll go home and complain about all the irritating rich people who were rude to her today, we’re probably not even the most baffling thing she’s seen today. ” aoife spoke from experience, having worked her fair share of minimum wage jobs where she was subjected to the general public and, more specifically, people who had more disposable income than they did sense. once upon a time she had thought that was her way in, but it had only ended up being demeaning and demoralising. “ if that’s what you need to tell yourself then who am i to shatter your illusion ?? ” she huffed in good-natured laughter, raising her glass to her lips in order to take a restrained sip, “ i do appreciate the meal though, you’re right. and i suppose the company isn’t awful. ” truthfully, aoife spent so many of her dinner times alone or with dates whose names she could barely remember that it was nice to actually be seated across from someone she could actually call a friend. her eyes widened in shock at his words, champagne catching in her throat, “ 2500 each ?! that’s probably more than i spent on furnishing my entire apartment. we found most of our furniture on the street. ” her mouth opened as she went to continue, but her words died on her tongue as the waitress reappeared, causing her to immediately slip back into her role for the night. “ thank you !! ” she enthused as her food was placed in front of her, the smell immediately wafting up to her nostrils. “ well, hopefully it lives up to your expectations, dear. it smells heavenly. ”
dylanandreastaylor:
Dylan just threw Aoife a look. “Has anyone ever told you that you can’t really go around calling people fucking boring?” But nevertheless, the blond laughed, not being offended by her comment. “I’m waiting for you to throw your cards and tell me what they say about our future,” the one of Dylan and the waitress in question. “Now, that was a question, right?” Tarot and all of that definitely wasn’t Dylan’s cup of tea, but knowing Aoife, it would entertain her for at least couple of minutes.
his words elicited nothing but an exhale of amusement, “ i’ve never particularly cared for what people tell me to do. ” life was lived on her own terms, that was how it had been ever since she left home and it was how she planned for it to always be. aoife shook her head, disbelief setting in as he continued to speak, “ nope, that’s just a cop out. and, quite frankly, would be a waste of cosmic energy. readings are for big decisions, life events, not for the scared little boy who won’t even talk to a girl. ” she glanced back up at the subject of their conversation, an unintentionally flirtatious smile appearing on her face as she caught the other woman’s eye, “ you better make your move before i sweep her out from under your nose, ‘cause her standards will become much higher after a date with me. i’m not sure you’d stand a chance. ”
sebastianortiz:
“Hopefully never,” came Seb’s easy response, nose wrinkling for a brief moment. He cast a brief glance around before his gaze settled on Aoife once more, smile bright now. “Yeah? Now that’s something I can’t say no to. I’m thinking tequila.”
“ definitely never. ” aoife said with a laugh, “ i have a reputation to uphold, after all. ” she turned back towards the bar, catching the eye of the bartender so that he made his way over to them next. “ tequila it is !! though if that turns out to be a horrible decision you gotta promise me we’ll split a cab home. tequila an’ me have had a few fights in our time and she usually wins. ” hands planted against the sticky surface of the bar as she waited for the drinks to be poured, wrapping long fingers around each one once the bartender had finished. she passed one to seb, raising the other to her lips and trying not to breathe the smell of the cheap alcohol in too deeply.
So, if you take off your top and trousers we’ll have a look. Top and trousers? Why do I need- ? To examine you.
and if you make me feel in love then i'll blossom for you if you make me open up i'll tell only the truth when your mouth is running dry your head high, hold on baby you ain't tried no drug like me
