Have you ever wondered ...? 🤓...
I have been made aware that completing this blog is pointless to my qualification. So I will be giving up unless told otherwise. This will allow me previous time to be focused on other parts of my qualification.
Interesting call today with our companies senior learning and development facilitator. Who’s is also doing the same apprenticeship level 3 in property management. There is a lot going on behind the scenes of my apprenticeship and I can feel it. Admittedly I feel very conflicted with what’s going on. I was advised today to sit tight for the next week or so. I know things will work out for the best, as they often do. I just want to make sure I understand the best options for me on which provider to go with. To stay with current provider or to change...
On the upside gyms reopen next week!! Wahoo very excited about that. I need my community back and human interaction other than work. Although I do appreciate I am very lucky to have been able to keep my job during these times and lockdown period.
I’m looking forward to a panarama documentary on tonight about shared ownership on BBC 1. Panarama are always good a slating and hilighting the worst parts to any argument but I do feel it vital for me to watch as I am considering going into shared ownership or help to buy. Also Christmas is nearly upon us precisely a month today.
Finally completed my questionnaire for my project and sent some out which feels gooooood !!!
Having to check in with myself this weekend and take so time to rest. It’s been a hetic week last week from my care line system failing and having to go into work last night to support an engineer to get it up and running again. To covering another development, to a resident having a fall in their flat and the next of kin going off alarmingly about why wasn’t the resident checked in the morning.
Unfortunately for this residents next of kin they don’t seem to understand that as a development manager I am not running a care home and retirement flats are for independent living. I have already insisted that this resident requires more support to live independently. Thanks to my safeguarding referral, this resident does now have careers going in at lunch times (as requested by next of kin). But I felt this was not enough. My advice was ignored and now as a consequence the resident is in hospital.
I have had to take some time to rest and made sure self care is a priority this weekend. To recharge my battery’s for another week ahead. On a brighter note I am going to view some properties myself at the end of next week. I’m so excited as my son is outgrowing my current flat time to move on.
This week I have been on the National Leasehold Group conference it has been educational particularly about sections I am interested in for example career development in property management industry and shared ownership. Some of the information has gone completely over my head if I’m honest but I know it’s good to familiarise with all the legality terms. Eventually in good time it will become known language. I’m covering another development at the moment also on a Friday which is good for some over time for Xmas. But is also great learning for me to familiarise with another site and have to think on the spot rather than repeated tasks as I do at my own site. Still working through my IRPM modules :D oh what fun!! Reading and learning is not my strength. I generally have to read something about 3 times before it goes in!! I’m much more of a doer!! But I’m trying to commit to 30mins reading a evening !! Especially whilst in lockdown with nothing else to do.
Monday mornings again ... I do love them😍. I have had a well rested weekend and ready for a new week of learning and trying to keep my residents away from my office. Ohh the fun in that...
I went to Kew Gardens on Saturday, one of the few places open at present. I must admit, when I look back at this blog in years to come it will merely feel like a dream. The time when London stood still and closed all non essential shops and activities that keep us sane. Gyms, cinemas, restaurants, offices, children’s soft play and many other facilities that we depend on so much to give us a work and personal life balance. I keep on pushing and I am grateful to have my studies to give me a focus during this weird time.
Sometimes it not until we journal things when we actually realise wow this is a unique time in our lives. I’m going to get myself COVID tested today. Not because I have symptoms but just to reassure myself and residents. I’m surprised my company have not suggested this but I guess they have a different idea on the situation that residents are supposed to be staying in their flats. Which is NOT happening so well in my development. It does happen the majority of the time, however I have a few very isolated residents who cannot help but come out of their flats. My opinion is very mixed on this.
I wrote the other paragraphs before work ... then arrived at work to a complete power failure. Because this happened in the middle of the night even the emergency lights were starting to fade out. Thankfully I went out to the roadside where there were workman and clarified the time the power was due to come back on. I knocked on all my residents doors to reassure them that they would soon have power. They were all so relieved to see me and hear that by late morning they would have their power restored. Sometimes all people need is a friendly face with an update. The whole thing was out of my control but I kept the communication up and it really helped the whole situation. All in all a good start to the week !!
Feeling the strain of the lockdown period and it hasn’t been a week yet. My residents are moody and miserable, my son is extra difficult to manage and I feel extra anxious too.
I usually use external resources to manage my sons behaviour, built up energy and my own mood like swimming, cubs, gym and spa etc. With these activities closed when we get home from work there is no stimulation for him except his gaming which he would happily be on for hours upon hours. I am not willing to sacrifice his well being for the sake of me studying. Study is on hold for this week. Quite possibly untill life returns to somewhat if normality, I can feel myself getting overwhelmed so will be taking some well needed need down time in the evenings. Leaving work at work if that makes sense.
I managed to get onto a retirement property management conference last week which I thoroughly enjoyed. I felt I learnt a lot from it too! Typically on the last day of the conference and the day before the second national lockdown came into action. I ended up at A&E with my son who has broken another bone ! This time it’s his right finger! I feel sorry for the teachers is all I can say, however they seem to be managing him well so far. By giving him fun jobs to do at school like, listening and helping young children read. I love how teachers are so creative and admire those qualities. I really don’t think they get enough praise!!
Never mind .... currently tackling a joyful excel spreadsheet at work. Listing, labelling and describing all the assets in the building. I mean I didn’t even know what an asset was until this year, so I’m learning something 🤪

A second national lockdown is upon us. With the government making it clear that the housing market is open for business, we explain what the
Light read for me to be in the know for my job !! Cpd cpd cpd Corona Corona Corona 😩🙏
My new favourite place to be and guess what ? It closes tomorrow 😭
Never mind back to home workouts it shall be !
2nd lockdown this year oh the joys! High anxiety about work so will be doing a lot of mediation to calm the mind. Studying is hold for now need to prepare myself in so many ways. 1/ is how will I entertain my hyperactive son for a month ?
2/ how will I keep my residents away from my office again ?
3/ how will I survive? 😅
Last one is a joke, I will be just fine but have to be extra kind to myself so I can look after others ❤️🙏
Had a nice relaxing evening currently in bed with burning eyes end of the week symtoms😅 or maybe staring at my phone for too long. I was on a conference call earlier via linked in which I loved! All about emotional intelligence, a very interesting topic, was definitely worth tuning into!
I never got around to uploading over the weekend other than my video. I had a busy weekend doing mum stuff (pumpkin carving at a farm). My son and I have joined a new wellness club for us both. So we are filling our spare time with that too. It’s great to do activities together and keeping us both healthy too and as we are coming into winter innew I had to source a new past time for us both. It is also really helping me keep a balanced mind which I really do need for my personal life and job!
I’ve had a busy week following up a safeguarding referral I made, I had a call from the local authority social worker and then a follow up meeting with a care company. The next of kin requested for me to be present to raise my concerns. Which is great it seems that finally after about of year of my perseverance with contacting next one next of kin and getting no where. To then reaching out to the second next of kin who seems to understand my concern and can empathise better. Finally things are moving in the right direction for this resident to help support them to be able to continue living independently for now. A social worker is coming on site to do further assessment tomorrow. I will take a step back as I feel I have given my input. I do find there is a fine line between raising my concerns and getting too involved. Quite often I have noticed that if social services see a person that is around to over see, they can take a step back. But I think a 99 year old with dementia should fit there criteria relatively well. With all my supporting evidence that I have noted over the last year. Now I fully understand why my area managers and trainers have always said all you can do is keep a diary log of events. It has come in very handy!!
20mins I spent typing the other day for it to not upload not impressed !!!
Nice bit of E-learning
A morning of CPD, avoiding burning out is something I have become very aware of over the last few years. The more I study it the more it makes sense. Happy Wednesday 🤗

Love this close to my heart and my project ❤️will most definitely be donating my words.
Yesterday was Mental Health Awareness Day and this is a subject close to my heart. I am in a much better place mentally than I have ever been. I still have odd days that are not so good but on those days I allow myself abit of extra love and acceptance. I try and look at the detail and triggers of my emotions. Almost back track to see what has got me to how I felt. I have studied metal health a lot over the last 10years. One of the biggest things that I learnt is that it’s ok to say no, if something doesn’t feel ok you can protect your well being. Awareness and education is key to understanding.
All this knowledge that I have has given me the passion behind my project. It’s not ok for someone to suffer with things like self neglect or abuse, just because they are a leaseholder or of a certain retirement age. If I see concerning behaviour it is my duty to raise concerns with family members and should this not be met with understanding then it’s my duty to report to local authority who also have a duty of care under The Care Act 2014.

More product research, luckily I have a big interest in the above 🤗🤗🤗
Started on my PowerPoint, the way my brain works is I procrastinate on tasks I am unsure of, so then I end up not doing anything. PowerPoint however is my friend and I can complete a presentation with ease. So I skipped a few steps inbetween and I will be 100% coming back to them once I piece together my PowerPoint.
An article relating to my project idea, an age group that has sadly been forgotten about during COVID. This is why my project idea is so important. To engage with our retirement customers and reach out to external charities and companies.
