Curious what is actually normal for bed time. Go for your normal/average time, not your most extreme or what you wish it was.
what time do you go to bed? (local time)
7pm or before

11pm
12am
1am
2am or after
it's never consistent
some other time entirely
I just don't know what grownups do for bedtime and I want to know!!!

why aren't there more lois-centric comics
i'm back to elaborate. wikipedia lists 8 titular comics for lois, but two of those are collection/anthology books which have a large focus around the superman's girlfriend title, so it's really more like 7 titles. but i'll come back to the superman's girlfriend title, so let's focus on the other six. of those 6, four of them are all only 1/2/or 3 issues long. one of the "longer" (at 8 issues) of those 6 is titled 'lois and clark', so it's not even fully her title. which leaves us one out of the 6 that is truly focused on lois and isn't just a (very mini) mini series or one-shot (lois lane: enemy of the people by greg rucka, where clark serves as more of a side character.)
now, the superman's girlfriend, lois lane title ran for 137 issues (+ two annuals) from 1958 - 1974 (and in 1962 it was actually the third best-selling comic book in the u.s.) which of course makes it her longest running titular title. which, having a titular title for lois when she isn't a superhero is pretty great; i think there's a lot to be said about the comics history significance of this.
but the fact remains that lois' longest running titular comic storyline literally puts the title of "superman's girlfriend" ahead of her name. and, given the time period of these comics, many of the storylines focus on her pursuing superman as a romantic partner, and focus a significant amount on lois wanting to be a good romantic partner (which, at the time, meant being a good housewife and mother.) the cultural shifts in the u.s. post-wwii account for a lot of the changes made to her character and personality at this time, and what was acceptable for a woman to be like, even in comics. for example, in her earliest appearances, lois was more similar to how we know her now--bold, fearless, a dedicated reporter, etc. but in these silver age comic books, she had to be referred to as a "girl reporter" (not even woman reporter. girl.) and again, having read some of these silver age comics in the 75 Anniversary Anthology, i think these comics are really important and interesting from a historical perspective (both comics history and culture in the u.s. post-war)
but it's just strange to me (and a bit frustrating) that lois is the longest enduring* superman character outside the man himself, and doesn't have more solo (or even joint with clark) longer-running titles to her name.
[*for reference: lois' first appearance is in action comics #1 (june 1938) aka the first superman comic ever; lex luthor's first appearance is action comics #23 (april 1940); perry white's first (comic) appearance is superman #7 (november 1940); and jimmy olsen's first (named) comic appearance was superman #13 (nov-dec 1941) (though he has an unnamed cameo in action comics #6 in november 1938, which is earlier than perry and lex, but still later than lois)]
hey girl
Something that I get chills about is the fact that the oldest story told made by the oldest civilization opens with "In those days, in those distant days, in those ancient nights."
This confirms that there is a civilization older than the Sumerians that we have yet to find
Some people get existential dread from this
Me? I think it's fucking awesome it shows just how much of this world we have yet to discover and that is just fascinating
@makaeru peer review cos this made me check when the Sumerians happened and I forget how recent history is for every other continent. 7000 - 8000 years ago just isn't that long when you're in Australia, and the amount of detailed history we have access to here is wonderful and should be recognised more internationally
Source (non Aboriginal)
And a quote I picked out from a longer interview with an Aboriginal local elder about the area where he touched on the history
Source (the rest of the interview is really interesting and all transcribed, have a look if you're curious)
This is part of my Ancient Civilizations class that I teach, which does a whole week about Australia and the Torres Strait Islands because I was sick of never seeing them represented in USAmerican history contexts. With the help of @micewithknives and @acearchaeologist I've learned so many incredible things about Australia's past and it's been incredibly rewarding to share them with students.
My favorite fact about Aboriginal oral history is the fact that we pretty recently discovered that the Aboriginal myth of the 7 Sisters, an origin story for the Pleiades star cluster, accurately reflects a point TEN THOUSAND YEARS AGO when two stars in the constellation got close enough together to no longer be distinguishable by the naked eye.
The story? 6 sisters running from something that took their 7th sister.

chris mcquarrie: i’m like, we’re shooting this action scene and you’re running and you’re getting out of here… it’s like, i don’t have time for the shoes. and [tom] was like “the shoes are essential. it’s part of the date. she’s gotta take her shoes off.”
The other day I was surfing the internet and I found this specialized painting colour wheel, it shows how real paint colours relate to each other.
Outside: the purest/brightest colours.
Inside: naturally muted or earthy colors, like browns and ochres.
The Center: dark neutral tones used for mixing shadows.
The Lines: the lines connect colors that are opposites, if you mix them you neutralize the tone creating clean grays or browns instead of muddy puddles.
I want to share this with you because I think it is really illustrative!
