A slew of reports into inflated charges and NDAs highlight how leaseholders like myself are being ripped off with depressing regularity
"There are five million leaseholders in England and Wales, many of whom are discovering that items on their service fees — which have doubled in the past five years — involve hidden fees.
Tens of millions of pounds are being racked up in kickbacks split between brokers and landlords, according to a report from the Observer — and leaseholders are footing the bill."
'Give a man the secure possession of a bleak rock and he will turn it into a garden,' wrote the agriculturalist Arthur Young. 'Give him a nine years' lease of a garden and he will convert it into a desert.'

I can honestly say I am very grateful to have been given this opportunity to completely change my career! My profession was the hair industry for the last 14 years. However, it started to become a chore and I was not getting anywhere really with my career. I felt stuck just going from salon to salon. I was never happy working for someone else’s business and someone else’s goals and dreams on such a small scale.
My goal is to get onto the property ladder and with this amazing opportunity to study leasehold, freehold and shared ownership. I am really able to look into my options in fine detail. I feel at an advantage coming from a completely different industry. I can feel myself growing into my new career and being fully supported with all the knowledge and education at the tip of my fingers through Catch 22 and FirstPort.
I am taking a big step out of the hairdressing world now and what a better time with COVID still dominating the hair industry. I will be forever grateful that I made that career change last year! It honestly could not have been at a better time! I would have been without a job for the last three months otherwise!
As you can tell I’m enjoying my journey and very thankful for all the opportunities coming my way. Currently reading through ‘things to know before buying a flat’ as part of my IRPM modules. It’s very interesting definitely making some notes. Work tomorrow so much finish up and get to bed 😴😴
From energy and water bills to exorbitant rail fares, we’re all busy lining the pockets of wealthy ‘investors’, says Guardian columnist Aditya Chakrabortty
Charkrabortty got a promotion, guess the Guardian finally realised he’s better than their standard stable of hand-wringers.
