Book binding success with #KateHolland www.katehollandbooks.co.uk
The second day of Book Binding was far less stressful, I took my time, calmed down and got in the zone of the books. If Kate taught me one thing in the past week (although obviously she taught me a lot more - basically everything about making your publication look like a proper living breathing book instead of random pages of images) - where was I? One thing- yes she taught me to not be scared of something new - we were all terrified of this experience - the stress of getting it wrong - not having enough time - deadline looming but once we all relaxed we go it done. And looking back (far back & forget the tears) I think I rather enjoyed the whole experience.
Thank you Kate. See you at Degree Show
An exhibition showcasing seventeen graduate photographers collective works from Bath School of Art and Design.
A link to the Kickstarter campaign that I set up for our upcoming London Show at The Hoxton Arches - we are already a quarter of the way there with 21 days to go - heres hoping we make it! Together with Jess and Amee we made up a series of different pledges and options for what the backers get for pledging money to us. It varies from a postcard image from one of our seventeen photographers to A3 signed prints and official sponsorship of the show on our website and our catalogues.
Book Binding with Kate Holland
Book Binding commenced today and needless to say I did not take to it like a fish does to water. Measurements, cloth, glue, thick board and a ten hour stay at uni later, I am still yet to complete a cover. Tomorrow is another day, and another attempt to be had, no doubt without it's own trials and tribulations.
Tom Jackson
Tom came in to talk to us about how much we can achieve with a simple two light set up. His aim was to show us that we don't need to spend lots of money renting or buying equipment after we leave university and start our own practice. For me (who is not one to use a lot of lighting or the studio) it was really intriguing. After going back through the basics we went through the famous works of Rankin, Terry Richardson and Avedon seeking their statement lighting scenarios and again how we could achieve that without spending a fortune. The really interesting part for me came after the workshop had finished and I spoke to him individually about my final project. He was incredibly helpful and enthusiastic and gave me many ideas of the types of places and jobs he thinks I could do after I leave. A name that cropped up was Dazed and Confused and his time spent working in Rankin's studio behind their offices. I am a tad obsessed with Dazed and their aesthetics so in short this got me hugely interested and excited. We then talked about my way of shooting and how I can apply these lighting set ups outside with nothing more than different covered pieces of cardboard. He told me to get busy with tin foil, white paint and slabs of cardboard and I'll be laughing. For me he said it's not about bringing in artificial light but controlling the light i've already been given. Needless to say i'm getting my hands on some foil and paint.
