You might be thinking why there is need of another blog on GATE examination when there is a plethora of blogs already on the web.
Well, I have created this blog to solve the same problem that you are facing right now looking at this screen. The problem, how to prepare for GATE exam, because as we know that it looks easy to crack but it is not that easy to crack. I know, I have been in your place, and now I know how to efficiently prepare for the exam and score good (at least above 60 marks).
But before going into details of who I am and what is my qualification. I would like to pinpoint main mistakes students commit during preparation.
Mistake-1 Preparing from coaching notes
Why? Because in most of coaching centers, they teach IES and GATE aspirants together which causes over-preparation. It was one of my big mistakes. Firstly, it created indecisiveness regarding the selection of notes. I suggest before preparing GATE, you must fix your study material and plan to revise it over and again. I couldn’t even choose if I should go with ME notes or ACE notes so I went for both and ended up in frustration.
Mistake-2 Not following syllabus
The next question comes if one should not prepare from coaching notes then should he go with standard books? Well, it sounds a better choice but you should be following the syllabus only, do not try to learn everything because only selected portion is supposed to coming in the examination. I am going to put analysis of subjects in the following posts.
Mistake-3 Lack of revision
There are 14 subjects to prepare and if you want to score fairly good then you must revise a subject at least 3 times. However, you should create your own plan of revision. I will suggest a few scientifically proven ways to improve your revision efficiency.
Mistake-4 Lack of practice
Most of questions in GATE exam will be formulae based and rest of them will be either theoretical or conceptual. What my mistake, while preparing for the exam, was putting more effort on memorizing formulae instead of practicing questions. I regret it now and I do not want anyone of you regret because of this. So I would suggest that it is better to practice questions then memorize formulae. I am going to create the study plan on this blog keeping this thing in mind.
Mistake-5 Not giving full length tests
My worst mistake!. Had I given at least 10 tests, I could have scored more than 75 marks easily. As it’s quoted, “Practice makes a man perfect”, and the same is applicable in GATE examination also. The selection of test-series is also an important factor that I will be writing in upcoming blogs.
