Mindgame [Riko]
Now, for the gathering of valuable intel. “This is some good coffee. How long have you been working here?”
She watched in utter silence that was near amazement as the guest began digging in his pockets and bags, collecting notes, pennies, and coins and dropping them onto the table. "Um...," she muttered. We take credits too, was what she was going to say, but at that time the customer already collected all the money, enough to pay for his coffee. She decided it was best to keep silent and retrieve the payment from him, her eyebrows raised slightly at his explanation, her lips pressed to hide her smile. She nodded and walked behind the counter, quickly inputting the payment inside the cash register. Her eyes still fixed on the customer, eyeing his reaction closely. If her guess was correct and if he was really indeed a cafe critique....
The moment when he sipped his coffee seemed to take forever, but she sighed in relief as the customer expressed his satisfaction. A good chance just opened to make a good impression. "Oh... a few weeks," she answered, giving him a warm smile. Yes, she could be warm when she needed to. She had learned this art from her parents and her constant experience - always be nice to people who would bring you benefit. Your interest and opinion don't matter, as long as they will bring merit for you, treat them nice.
She pulled a chair beside him and sat down. It had been a slow day - not much customers around. She could sit and chat with him a little. "I'm glad you like our coffee... we were just opened at all so still not much customers, we're working to get more..." She smiled again. deciding to be blunt and pressed her question. "What do you think about this cafe?"
no second chances left
Melodious Nocturne [Rico - Erwin]
A female voice broke him out of his thoughts, and his head snapped up. There stood a young girl, glasses and white hair prominent on her pretty face.
Erwin smiled, polite and gentlemanly as he asked. “Why thank you, miss… Do you play?”
Uh..? N-no, I don't...," she answered quickly, stuttering a little. She had spoken to him so spontaneously, almost unconsciously, that his response actually took her aback. "Well...," she paused. She did play piano, a long time ago. It was so long ago that she already forgot. But as she heard the beautiful melody again, she was reminded. How she was always feeling happy when her fingers pressed against the keyboards, dancing on it to produce strings of harmonious tone.
"I used to... but it was such a long time ago, I had lost touch with that part of myself," she continued. Suddenly she felt her constantly tight attitude began to loosen. Was it the music... was it this man? Could she probably have a soft spot for music, something she never realized, or never reminded to, until now? She didn't know. But she did know of one thing. Right now, she was longing to be there in front of the piano, to touch the keyboard, to play it again, drowning herself in the sound of music - as it might be the only way to give her current self a tiny bit of sanity, in the midst of insanity she's constantly living.
"May I... come in?" she asked, and after hesitating for a while she added. "I'd like to hear you play again... if you don't mind."

“Sounds like you just need to relax.” he replied setting a small little white pill down against her napkin, a soft little inviting smile on his lips. “I get off work in an hour. Think about it. Rico.” He read her name from the essay she had set out, barely worked in before her. She was wound too tightly, unloading on some steam might do her best.
She blinked. His sudden words sounded like an invitation, but just what kind of invitation? He even called her name even though she didn't recall ever telling him. Slowly her eyes trailed to the white pill the barista had put on her napkin. She thought it was another aspirin for her headache, but she was wrong. It was nothing of the sort. Her breath quickened as she realized what the pill was. Being a medical student in the field of obstetrics and gynecology, she had seen the pill far too many times.
It was a contraception pill. That would explain the meaning behind his words clearly. He's inviting her to a hookup. In other words: come to my place and let's fuck. What nerve. They had barely met for just an hour, and already he's inviting her to a hookup. Rico hadn't had that much experience in love. There had been pitifully few in her life - less than what she could count with her fingers in one hand. All of her time had been taken by school, studying to be a doctor and polishing her CV so that she could land herself into a great job. But that didn't mean she had no experience at all. She had had a few hookups - whenever she was too stressed out with school and needed an unloading. And...
Her eyes eyed the barista again as he moved behind the counter. Her brain slowly worked to decide if she should accept his invitation. Well, why not? As far as she saw it now, she was too fed up with school. She needed a release. And he did look like he would be good in bed.
Rico smiled, none too innocently. "OK," she said to the barista. "In an hour it is. And you'd better not disappoint me when we get to business."

Melodious Nocturne [Rico - Erwin]
It all a started in a normal Thursday afternoon. Rico had just finished her Intermediate Human Anatomy class, and she was walking the side-roads of Trost, pacing slightly faster because dark clouds have begun to hang over the sky, a warning that it was going to rain soon. She had forgotten her umbrella at home, and she certainly didn't fancy being caught in the rain, and having to return home all wet.
She was racing her way through the array of shops, when suddenly she heard a melody playing. Her feet slowed down gradually until she came to a complete stop. She turned her head slowly and stared at the open window of a music shop, where the sound was coming from. It was the sound of a piano. She recognized the song. Beethoven Piano Sonata No. 8, Pathetique. A very nostalgic sound, she hadn't heard it from a long time, not since she was little, probably around 6 years old.
She approached the open window. Her heart suddenly beat faster and her blood rushed from her sudden excitement. She peeked inside and saw a tall man with sleek golden-blonde hair in front of the piano. His hands moved gracefully as he played the melodies. Who is this man? He played so beautifully. For a while she found herself completely enchanted by the song. Her mind wandered to her past, before all of this bullshit about parents came to invade her life.
The last note from the song hung across the air, then slowly disappeared. She heaved a deep sigh. She was moved with the song - way beyond words. Before she realized, she had opened her mouth and spoken.
"You play so beautifully," she said to the blond man in front of the piano.

There was some smooth irony that came from the knowledge that nothing can kill your libido than watching childbirth. “Sounds gross.” Boris finally stated bluntly. “You struck me more as Pediatrics.” He added easily. His family knew far too many doctors. Still his question seemed deflected with a distracted question of her own. Looking over Boris nodded. “I’m studying to become a persecutor. But Police Detective is my back up.” he answered looking down to her. “I can leave you alone, if you want to do your work.” He spoke calmly. Letting his eyes flick over her frame gently. Yeah she had plenty of stress wrapped up in such a tiny body.
She laughed, none too kindly, at his remarks referring to her being suitable as a Pediatric. "No," she said. "Kids are horrible, I wouldn't be able to handle them." Besides, they don't bring as much money as being an Obstetrician. Pausing for a while, she added. "Also, with the amount of problematic parents out there, I would never be a parent." That's true. With parents like hers, she had decided it would be the best course of action to never have any kids at all, or she'd end up treating them as horribly as her parents did to her.
She nodded when she heard him say his objective. "My sister used to say she'd become a prosecutor, but she ended up choosing to be a lawyer." Though she would never understand people who chose Law as their major in the first place. It seemed like all they did was talk - and look how much money it could give them. Well, not like she could say anything. She chose Medical School just to keep her parents satisfied. She didn't even know what her objectives in life were.
She smiled curtly when the barista finally gave her time to work alone. Nodding slightly, she began to focus on her paper. But she found her mind blank and she was unable to write a word after a brief three or four sentences. She sighed. Propping her elbow on the table, she cushioned her chin on one hand. Maybe she was too fed up with school and finally hit her limit.
Her eyes trailed to the barista behind the counter. He was nice, with a little bit of curiosity but none too pushing. Not like the other big-eyed strangers who always looked at her like an alien and began questioning her non-stop once they heard she was from Medical School. And he's definitely attractive. His hair color was uncommon but appealing nonetheless. Not a gay, but probably taken. Who cares.
"Can't concentrate," she said, loud enough for him to hear her. As soon as those words came out of her mouth, she bit her lips. Crap. She hadn't wanted to say those out loud. Now it would feel as though she's inviting him to another conversation.

Does anyone here has a chara who's good at playing music instruments (piano, violin, etc)? Message me if you do, I'd like to plot with you. Thanks ^^
Rico's Guide To Coffe-Making~!
Hi this is Rico. As you all probably have known, I'm a barista from the best ever-famous coffee shop in town SGuard Coffee, a newly-opened coffee shop in town. In this occasion I'd like to tell your sorry asses you, whether you are a frequent or a Barista yourself, about various types of coffee drinks offered by our shop regular coffee shops. if you are a frequent, this might help you sort through things when you're looking at various strange Italian names coffee types in the menu. Now let's start.
1.) Espresso
This is a very thick shot of coffee essence, racked with caffeine. Only around 30 mL, but it's enough to get the job done, be it keeping you awake for the night or getting rid of headache. Double-shot Espresso is called Doppio, which is basically the same except it is 60 mL instead of thirty. A smaller dose of Espresso is called Ristretto. It's 22 mL, thicker, and more powerful. Espresso is supposed to be taken plain, without sugar or cream, to savor the taste. There are several people though who liked ordering espresso with cream or sugar. Weirdos. If you don't like the bitter taste of espresso, go order Latte or something geez.
2. Latte
An ever-popular coffee drink, usually taken by the noobs people who don't like bitter or rather strong taste of coffee. The name could really tell for itself: it really just consisted from milk (Latte is milk in Italian). Generally it uses around 200-300 mL of frothed (steamed) milk, put on top 60 mL of espresso. AND this is also the only coffee drink capable of meeting Barista's unfulfilled artistic talent as they allow us to show off our abilities make wonderful Latte arts by the ways of putting frothed milk on top of the espresso. Cafe au Lait is a French, milder form of Latte, using brewed coffee instead of Espresso as its base.
3. Cappuccino
Cappuccino consists of 1/3 espresso, 1/3 frothed milk, and 1/3 foam. A good Cappuccino should contain roughly 60 mL of each. You can figure out already that Cappuccino is foamy in nature and cause several people to dislike it cause who would ever wanna drink foam anyway? It feels like you're eating detergents, but people who enjoy coffee like it better than Latte simply because it's stronger. The only difference between Latte and Cappuccino is simply the amount of foam, which goes all the way back to milk frothing method. A noob barista would end up making Latte anyway even though they are requested to make Cappuccino, simply because they don't know how to froth the milk to produce more foam.
4.) Macchiato
This is the stupidest, most pointless drink ever invented, despite the rather hi-tech name. Macchiato is a single or double shot of espresso with a dot of foam milk on top of it. It is easy to make, but rare to find people who frequently order it. Speaking of nature it's quite a strange drink. Not Espresso, not Latte, not Cappuccino, just a little bit of everything put together. It's quite a nice variation if you're bored of everything else.
5.) Americano
This is not the song of Lady Gaga. For people who don't like their Espresso thick, Americano is a lighter form of Espresso. It's basically 30 mL of Espresso diluted with twice the amount of water. It's called Americano simply cause it's invented for the Americans, who didn't like their Espresso as thick. It's obvious. A simple drink to make, and very popular.
Allright folks that's all for today. I will post you another update when I have time. Pretty tired now and still have those damn med essays due the day after tomorrow. And a hospital visit after that. Sigh. Life as a medical student is miserable.
Agh shit my head is hurting again.

Mindgame [Riko]
Levi can feel a kindred spirit in her. Her body language screams weary and lost; her eyes, lined with bags, tell of sleepless nights. Maybe not in the exact same way, but Levi can tell she takes the world at face value, without trying to hide its ugly cracks or ignore the blemishes. He likes that. It’s a refreshing change from the wide-eyed, young college brats he’s been hanging around lately. Levi settles on the couch, still awfully stiff and uncomfortable, and decides to give SGuard the benefit of the doubt for now.
She took his orders quickly and nodded. "Coming soon," she said, as cheerful as she could manage, before retreating back behind to counter to make his coffee. Triple-shot espresso with sugar was an odd choice. Usually people who drink espresso didn't like it with sugar, but it was the customer's preference and what could she say? She poured coffee beans inside the coffee grinder and flipped the button on, watching as slowly they were crushed into powder. Then, with her trained hand, she put the coffee powder inside the filter before quickly proceeding with the tamping procedure. Tamping was an almost religious step for making an espresso. The pressure applied had to be precise at 30 pounds - no more, no less. Too much and it's bitter. Too little and it's sour. It was the most critical step that would differentiate a good espresso from a bad one. Many barista failed at this step, and they ended up making a terrible-tasting espresso.
She put the filter filled with tampered coffee powder on its spot in the espresso machine, and flipped the switch to get the hot water running, quickly putting a ceramic cup beneath the filter. Waiting for the coffee to fill the cup, she eyed her customer. He seemed to be relaxing for a bit, and she sighed in relief. From the moment he walked into the store he always seemed a bit displeased, wrinkling his nose and scrutinizing everything inside with his gaze. From the looks of it, he could very well be a food or cafe critique, none other than them would have such a skeptical attitude toward a newly-opened cafe. Even more reason for her to behave nice toward him. If he's pleased then he could write a good review - this coffee shop would get new customers.
His coffee was ready. She put two teaspoons of sugar inside and began arranging it on the tray, swiftly walking toward him. "Triple-shot espresso with double sugar and no cream," she said as she put the cup filled with boiling liquid on the table. "Your total is $6.35. Cash or credit?"

Leaning onto the counter Boris looked out at the shop. Everyone was either on their computers or chatting quietly. He actually had few minutes to sit and talk to the mousy looking blond with the tightly wound attitude. “Criminal investigation, I’m also studying Law.” he answered, not finding the need to really ask her about her studies with the droves of anatomy books she was dropping onto their tables. Raising an eyebrow he leaned back. “I take it you’re a med student. What Field?” He asked calmly. He didn’t need to rush anything.
"I'm...," she began scribbling a title for her essay on top of her paper, while thinking for an answer. Human Anatomy and the Relations to Human Pathology was the title she had in mind. But she blinked at the title she had written, completely perplexed to find that it was far from what she pictured.
Human Anatomy and the Relations to Criminal Investigation
Dammit, she thought. Apparently her concentration was split because she was attempting to write and listen to him at the same time, and she ended up with this embarrassing mistake. Quickly she tore the page and crushed it to a small ball of paper inside her fist. Then her right hand quickly moved to scribble the right title.
"Obstetrics and gynecology, I'm aiming to be a Gynecologyst," she answered his question. Easy practice, easy money. Most of the time she just had to deal with hormonally-challenged pregnant moms, and their overly-anticipating husbands. Looking between their legs (the moms, not the husbands), perform USG, and help to deliver childbirth. It was a common knowledge within people in the medical industry that Obs-gyn was one of the highest paying field, with more or less simpler tasks than the rest. Well, surgery was a richer field, but the road was harder and the risk was higher. Why take a higher risk when there was simpler road?
"What do you do in criminal investigation? Do you aim to be a police-detective?" she said, continuing her little chat with the barista. She didn't know why she needed to, though. Usually she just ignored people and started working on her own. Maybe she was just still thankful to him for the medicine, and it's just a simple courtesy to return the favor.
