We had inspection at the new house yesterday. I snapped this picture as we were walking out to leave. The next time I see this view, we’ll be moving in. So excited for next month to get here.

We are never ever ever moving again.
Me. Every time we move.
Check out the view from our new (!!!!) backyard!!!
(Assuming our current house passes the buyers inspection. And our new house passes the inspection. And assuming one of the three million things that could go wrong DON’T go wrong. But yeah. Dreamy.)
Is this thing on?
In the last 6 months we
-Had a super mild winter
-Got chickens!
-Went on vacation to Maine
-Survived another season of teeball
-Bronson lost both of his front teeth and graduated from Kindergarten
We also had a dozen conversations about what we want and where we want to be. In life and in general.
I then applied for, and accepted, a job in Burlington, Vermont.
So. We’ve listed our house and are looking for a new one and are moving to Vermont. By August 15th.
With two adults, two children, two dogs, two guinea pigs, six chickens, and a goldfish
8 years ago today I moved to Boston.
3 years ago today my grandmother died.
Two events which have impacted the trajectory of my life, happening on the same day 5 years apart.
It’s funny how that works.
Parenthood.
Both boys standing in the bathroom at 6:45 this morning, arguing over which of them needs privacy to go pee. All while I was in the shower.
Which then led to Ian sticking his head in the shower to tell me to tell his brother to give him privacy.
Which then led to Bronson trying to yell at Ian that HE NEEDS PRIVACY, IAN while he was peeing which caused him to pee all over the floor.
I need you to pick up a box of cheez-its and twenty dollars worth of fireball
A panicked phone call to my husband when I realized I forgot to get a snack for Bronson’s holiday party and a secret santa gift for my co-worker
SOMMELIER’S WINE GROWLER
Take your favorite wine to go in our high-tech growler – the connoisseur’s alternative to bringing bottles and openers to outdoor events. Simply decant a 750-ml bottle into the double-walled, stainless-steel vessel; the growler maintains the wine’s original temperature and preserves its true flavor.
“It’s like meeting the man of my dreams
and then meeting his beautiful wife”
—actual song lyrics that came into my head when I found this product while holiday shopping for other people because this is like, a dream come true for me.
This is almost as special as when I discovered cans of rosé this summer.
Just bought this + other things from their “stocking stuffer” section and I am PLOWING through this Christmas shopping. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Also use “private” for 20% off at the end.
I need this.
It would beat my current method of “just pour it in a cup” or “just take the bag out of the box and throw it in the cooler”.
Today is World AIDS Day.
I’d like to encourage you to:
Get tested
Educate yourself about how HIV is transmitted (and how it is not transmitted)
Use condoms
Support sex education, reproductive health services, and needle exchange programs
Become a donor, a volunteer, or an activist and help support those who are living with or affected by HIV / AIDS.
Take care of yourself, take care of each other.
A few resources for you:
AIDS.gov
Find a testing location
Planned Parenthood
Find a local HIV / AIDS organization
I hope I see the day when we find a cure for AIDS. But until then, please make sure you’re doing your part to stop both the spread of the disease and the discrimination against those infected.
Stay safe out there, friends.
The Kensington Palace instagram is essentially just pictures of Prince Harry being adorable and is currently my favorite thing on the internets.
Apparently 6 year molars are a thing and Bronson is never going to sleep again.
And Ian woke up screaming at midnight, because he wanted “Mommy to lay in his bed”.
And then, both of my kids peed in my bed last night/this morning. Bronson wrangled his way in sometime around 3:00, peed on my side of the bed, got up, changed his clothes and came back in and got in on Jon’s side of the bed. I realized this at 6:00 when Ian came in to climb in to bed and then promptly pissed everywhere and I couldn’t figure out why the bed on both sides of me was wet. Like, WHY IS THERE SO MUCH PEE IN MY BED RIGHT NOW. Did I pee the bed??? What’s happening?
So there were baths to be had at 6:00 in the freaking morning.
And then, when we were going downstairs, I was so tired I missed a step and fell down the last three stairs.
Then I made my coffee but I didn’t put enough scoops in the basket thing and it was basically coffee flavored water.
So, basically, my life was a shit show disaster well before 7:00am today.
I want a do-over.
And for all these reasons, I’ve decided to scalp you, and burn your village to the ground.
It’s time.
I will reblog this every year.
EVERY. YEAR.
It’s the best time of the year.
And now it’s tradition.
Is it time? It's time.
I was in a seminar last week about micro-inequalities and how to recognize them and yada yada yada yada and one of the guys on the panel was talking about....something and goes;
“So little boys are playing trucks or firemen and little girls are playing....I don’t know, what do little girls play these days?”
And a woman on the panel leans forward and goes;
“CEO”
And everyone in the room laughed, because the CEO of the company I work for is a woman.
So, even as a member of a panel leading a seminar that is 100% dedicated to how we see women and minorities in the workplace, this is the view.
It’s hard to have both. It’s hard to be both. It’s a very shaky tightrope to walk.
Reasons that instagram is better than tumblr right now:
1. COMMENTS. Because easy, public, post-specific communication is important. 2. No money cat, no “signs as…”, no “signal boost.” 3. I mean, whatever, tumblr is my ride or die and I’ll never leave it but I’m so much more excited to open up insta these days.
All of this. Yes.
This.
Yuuuup.
Got my tickets to see the final Mockingjay movie tomorrow.
I found out two weeks ago, truly by a fluke, that Jon and I were never legally married.
Or, we were, legally married but due to some lost paperwork the state of Ohio never knew it, and so we weren’t actually legally married.
It started with a conversation with a friend. Which made me wonder. So I texted my mom, who called a friend, who knows a person in the records department at our local courthouse. (The beauty of small towns. Red tape literally does not exist). Within an hour she had called to tell me that no, there was no record of us ever being married.
I called Jon, who flipped out. And then I called my friend Kim, because her dad was the one who married us.
It turned out that it was an easily rectifiable mistake. He goes in, fills out some paperwork saying that yes, he married us and yes, he submitted the required paperwork. They process the new paperwork and bam, problem solved.
The process was finished today. So, 4 years 10 months and 17 days after our wedding, we are actually, finally, legally, married.
