APH Mirror Week 2020: Day 5 - Conflict
Slovene alphabet war is probably the funniest conflict in history. Basically they tried to reform the language, and that incuded replacing the alphabet that was in use back then (bohoričica) with a new one (metelčica). Neither is in use today, instead gajica is used which was taken from Croatian who adapted it from Czech.
Unlike Janez, Primož does not like change.
"What do you mean you don't like the new alphabet?" Janez asked the other Slovenia, Primož. He thought it was neat, and he frankly felt betrayed by his counterpart's opinion.
"It looks dumb, and we already have an alphabet that works," Primož responded, crossing his arms on his chest.
Janez huffed. Despite his annoyance, his voice stayed calm as he tried to explain why he liked the new alphabet more. "But it's old and we need a new one. More Slavic one. Bohoričica is outdated, you're just licking Austria's boots."
"Well you know what?" Primož started, forcefully setting a large heavy book on the table between them. "The Bible is written in bohoričica, and not your stupid krevljica-"
"Metelčica. Which is way better than your ugly old alphabet." Janez decided trying to reason with his cousin was too much energy, and lashed out.
Primož groaned, picking up the Bible. Just like Janez, he was upset that his cousin wasn't listening to him at all. "Well, read a book!" he said, throwing the bible directly at Janez's face.
Janez didn't have time to react, and the book hit him right in the face. He needed a moment to realize what happened, and too confused to realize there was a small puncture wound right on his chin.
"No, you read a book!" He responded, mirroring Primož's action. He stomped out of the room, too fast too see it left a wound on Primož's face as well.
