This is possibly one of my favourite books of all time. âThe Strange Libraryâ by Haruki Murakami. Itâs whimsical narrative and accompanying illustrations make for an immersive and magical read. Definitely one to add to the TBR pile!

âThe symbolic interpretation is the only one which expands, enlarges the world, makes it boundless, illimitable. All others reduce it. Dreams, mysteries, myths, symbols, are as necessary as bread.â

A woman-of-color who writes poetry or paints or dances or makes movies knows there is no escape from race or gender when she is writing or painting. She canât take off her color and sex and leave them at the door or her study or studio. Nor can she leave behind her history. Art is about identity, among other things, and her creativity is political.
