I gave someone directions yesterday and I was positive that it was the first right and it was really the second right turn. Luckily they found the destination anyway, but it made me contemplate how many others things I might be "sure" about that I've actually got wrong. Were you ever sure of something in your body only to have a gifted healer show you that you were only seeing a part of the issue? Humility comes from a basic acceptance of our own fallibility, the 100% chance that we will get it wrong at least sometimes. Just like the practice we will stumble and we will fall in our life, the task is not to avoid these missteps but to learn from each one of them, to pick yourself back up each time a little stronger, to admit your mistakes and apologize for any harm done, to never hold grudges or seek revenge, to forgive easily and keep an open heart. Pride and ego can sometimes appear as genius and confidence, but it's just a facade that cracks when tested. True spiritual strength is humble, enduring, patient, blameless, loving, compassionate, forgiving and kind.
