My First Aphrodite Hymn

Aphrodite,

Goddess of love, beauty and sexual desire.

Your skin glows like that of the sun

And your smile as pure as snow.

You’ve guided me to do better,

To BE better.

Your confidence shines on through me.

Thank you, Dear Goddess

For showing me that

Love Is worth fighting for

And that I am beautiful

I sing of rivers poured of asphalt.

Put your hand on its skin, black burned white by the sun, and feel its heat, its pulse.

The arteries of a nation beat with our multitude.

Located at One Indiana Square (211 North Pennsylvania Street) in downtown Indianapolis.

This is the last of the three statues located at Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis. There is debate as to whether or not it is Persephone or Hebe. Of the three bought, this one had no title to indicate which Goddess she represented. Most seem to lean towards Persephone. All three statues were taken from the demolished Marion County Courthouse in 1962. The statues themselves were from the late 1800s.

This statue of Demeter is located at Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis.

Bright son of Leto, the bow is strung and drawn across the cord, a wood throat sings.

Your sister’s pines weep for it their resin tears gold as gods’ blood to dust the bowstring white as ash on the altar.

A finger lies on the instrument’s neck feelings its pulse, the rhythm, the wire cutting into flesh vibrating, holy sound waves in the air, like light.

her beauty shined in the moonlight, her smile was brighter than the sun. They were in love like two playful doves, young and fawn eyed. Aphrodite smiled at their kiss, and she giggled at their touch.

Prayer to Aphrodite

My darling, Aphrodite

May my words find you

For I can not contain

The adoration I feel

When I humbly kneel at your feet

I pray that you continue

To guide me towards love

And aid me in my quest

To free myself from all that conspires

To hold me back

And by your side

For the taste of fresh fruits,

For the feeling of the grass underneath my feet while I walk on the yard,

For the sweet smell after plants being watered,

For the peace I find in the sounds of birds,

And for all wonderful meals I have in the comfort of my home,
