it would be so bittersweet if lu guang kept cheng xiaoshi's power in the end but just learned to use it sparingly to visit happy memories, like every once in a blue moon.
thing is, after they dive into a photo they cant dive in it again. meaning lg can only “revisit” each photo once. and eventually he will run out of photos
The thing I think people miss about hualian is that they think unconditional love means I love you no matter what you do, and while that is a piece of it (what matters is you, not the state of you, etc.), it’s more about I love you without conditions. I do not love you because you do things for me or because you are a god amongst men. I love you for who you are. Loving you is as easy as breathing to me; I do it effortlessly. I will love you if you're poor, if you're hurt, or if you're insane, because I need no reason to do it. Loving you and breathing are the same instinct, and that’s why there are no conditions, because I am who I am because my love for you shapes me as a person, and that applies to both of them, because it is as simple as they are happy to be in each other's company, that’s what their love truly is.
Can’t believe that CXS fell for Vein’s bluff on being British when that man is a walking Chinese New Year decoration 😭

cheng xiaoshi:
the meeting of two great minds
Link Click is hilarious because all the main characters all think they're in drastically different genres of story.
Cheng Xiaoshi thinks he's in a buddy cop movie. There's a bit of comedy, a bit of suspense, some romance, but everything turns out all right at the end of the day.
Lu Guang is standing somewhere between Shakespearean Tradgedy and a psychological horror. Nothing is ever okay, and he cannot escape but he also can't ask for help because how would he even start.
Qiao Ling thinks her life is like a mystery novel. People are clearly hiding things from her and people she loves keep getting hurt but by god is she going to get to the bottom of this no matter what.
Xia Fei (as far as we've seen so far) is trapped in a coming of age story. He's just lost his mentor and is going to have to go off and figure the world out on his own. But he's making friends and learning the error of his ways.
Vein thinks this is a romance. Do not deny it. He's trying to live out his dark romance fantasy, and it's so bad for everyone involved.
Liu Xiao is a mystery to me. He's been playing Tetris on set. Honestly, he probably thinks he's the narrator, smug bastard.
👉👈 flower god xl,, 🥺
from Paper Flowers for the God of Gods by @mrcformoso !
been flipping through my sketchbook, and got walloped over the head at the reminder of my unwritten tgcf fic idea..
花无百日红:a flower cannot stay red for hundred days; good times do not last
The beggars, who saved the entire capital and everyone in it on a random weekday because Ol' Feng said that that weirdass couple asking for their help were his friends, have my respect.
proves how effective networking is
the quiet force that is the 3000 lanterns scene in tgcf will never not get to me, like...setting the whole worship thing aside, this scene is the most romantic, evocative shit in the series (and mind u, it only gets WORSE as the story goes on like for crying out loud!!). no declarations, no claiming just someone lighting the dark so his beloved person doesn’t have to stand in it alone. hua cheng makes sure xie lian is seen, that’s it. and then xl leaves the banquet, looks up at the sky, and silently thanks him. that's the real gut-punching part of this chapter bc u can tell how much it meant to him ! oh, love as quiet presence, as comfort and certainty that he belongs.. love that keeps the other moving forward freely, not tethered, not as interference trying to change him or steer his path, but as unwavering support ! just there, lingering and shining ever so brightly. or maybe i'm just projecting, idk i'm crying either way
theres a reason why every hualian song references the 3000 lanterns and this is it
Started re-reading tgcf and remembered how much I love his character design
Xie Lian: San Lang, you are a dear friend, but do not dare to presume to know him.
Hua Cheng who is also Wu Ming: yes Dianxia
yushi huang 🩸
me: ill sketch some cybermoths designs finally :) my hand: … oh you said Sketch?
“the youth” xie lian that man is 800 years old and also dead
Xie Lian, knowing his food is toxic and using it as a weapon of petty destruction is so fucking funny, he smiles all sweet and sincere and then serves you absolute poison just to give himself a giggle. When Qi Rong and Guzi are with him, Guzi gets offerings, and Qi Rong gets force-fed. Like, his food is so insane it made Thee Blackwater pass out. Hua Cheng doing nothing to discourage this behaviour makes it even funnier, like yeah, Gege, can I have seconds? Every evening is just plates of poison that they both eat, even though they both don’t even need to eat; they are genuinely just doing this as a way of fucking with people and allowing Xie Lian to play a doting housewife. Like, they are so deranged, I love them sincerely.
i think it only now hit me just how insane the cave of 10 000 gods is.
and no, not from a "it's weird to spend 800 years carving 10 000 statues of a dude who doesn't even know you exist" angle, but from the SHEER SCALE?????
10 000. in 800 years. that's 100 statues every 8 years. and we're talking life-sized, incredibly lifelike and accurate statues. (for the most part. in the later years especially)
to put it in perspective, carving a statue like that out of marble takes, on average, several weeks or even months to create. for ONE statue.
if we add all recorded and attributed sculptures, and i mean all of them, Michelangelo created 60 sculptures over a period of SEVENTY THREE YEARS. that's, on average, 0,82 sculptures done per year. this goes down DRASTICALLY if we only count the confirmed sculptures since there's only 45 of those.
Hua Cheng's average per year is TWELVE AND A HALF.
TO REITERATE: HUA CHENG WAS, EVERY 8 YEARS, CARVING MORE THAN TWICE THE AMMOUNT OF STATUES MICHELANGELO WAS CONFIRMED TO HAVE MADE OVER THE COURSE OF HIS ENTIRE LIFE.
and! that's not even all! because he was carving the statues OUT OF A VOLCANO. that means either a) shitty, porous rocks that crack like glass, or b) rocks like granite
granite has a hardness between 6-7. marble? 3-4
that's not even mentioning the GIGANTIC FUCKING STATUE he made INSIDE THE LITERAL VOLCANO
i can't remember, was there light in the Kiln??? or was he just carving it in complete goddamn darkness, entirely by touch?? for something on a scale that CAN RIVAL AN ENTIRE CITY??????
and he carved that, out of the goddamn volcano, in TWO YEARS, while undergoing some sort of trial in there.
which is a theme that continues, because Hua Cheng was keeping pace with that 12,5 average for 800 years while:
participating in a fucking ghost battle royale and WINNING
casually learning an entire dead language on the side. yknow like you do. from just the writings left behind, too
^ those two in 8 years bc he spent 2 inside the Kiln
learning everything about every single thing in existance to become Dianxia's personal wikipedia, and also to win against however many civil gods there were among the 33 he fought
running an entire city, because while he does have Yin Yu, he wasn't always there and besides a guy and his assistant is not nearly enough staff to run a city
running a very successful casino
getting richer than the actual realm of heaven off said successful casino
staying on top of a missing person case, chasing down every single rumour that could even remotely be about Xie Lian
hunting Qi Rong for sport
tearing down and rebuilding his huge-ass house
AND painting all those murals and paintings
fucking hell what kind of meth was he on and where can i get some??? like i get it he's a ghost, he doesn't need to sleep or eat so he does have more hours in a day but to get SO MUCH done??? at this point i'm convinced he had to have had clones running around for at least SOME of those tasks because how the fuck do you have the time for all of that while churning out beautifully carved, life-sized statues faster than a goddamned shein factory
when you have no need for food or sleep, and you have one (1) hyperfixation. anything is possible.
