Helmer, ca. 1962, that awkward moment when you ask someone for their name and they immediately hand you their ID card because you’re wearing the same attire as a bunch of other guys— your colleagues— to a state-held celebration.

I was inspired by a long and otherwise useless yap about the feds in the US (y’all remember that memical photo of a group of 10+ men wearing the same blue T-shirts and shorts?) and lebaas-shakhsi (state security plainclothesmen) in Iran (they tend to wear beige jackets + black trousers, iirc). You cannot convince me that some equivalent of that uncanniness doesn’t exist in the Beholder universe

btw, you know, I wish more people in this fandom had ideas for the characters’ backstories and came up with stuff that could have happened in the Great State many years before the events of B1 and B2. Canon events make things more complicated, imho: there’s the nuclear bomb intrigue, the whole “model citizen” cloning mess, Evan’s mission with Heimdall— you know what I mean, there’s little time before something really big happens. Meanwhile TGS in the 1970s, 1960s, even 1950s surely was dystopian already— what’s more, one can wonder whether it was better or worse back then, and what has shaped the setting as it is presented in canon. Just my thoughts, idk. I’ve been into worldbuilding since I learnt how to read and write, so now it’s kinda bleeding into every fannish activity I engage in

Fun fact: I've played Beholder Conductor from and to 3 times in a row. And for some reason, I got the distinct feeling that Winston's wife's name was Louise, and that this was canon... idk why, but I can't get that name out of my head now

I also think that the wife would not get along with each other. Anna would have been 100% scared off by Sabina's character, they simply wouldn't want to talk to each other 'cause of their different views, so to speak. And Louise (let me call Winston's wife that, please) is a vicious Chinese refugee, there's nothing to add /j

Carl and Evan would probably be active in the men's company, Carl himself is very talkative, and Evan knows him indirectly, so they would probably cheer Frank and Winston
